The film is an adaptation of a 2010 graphic novel by writer Pierre-Oscar Lévy and artist Frederik Peeters called Sandcastle. When asked what inspired him to adapt the book to film, director M. Night Shyamalan explained: "The book gave me the opportunity to work through a lot of anxieties I had around death and aging, and things like my parents getting older."

Goofs
It is explained that despite the fast aging, hair and nails don't grow since these consist of dead material. Yet Trent develops beard growth and other body hair when he ages from 6 to adulthood.

Interesting, Different From Most Movies Being Made Today

A strange movie that certainly has many flaws but still one that makes you think. There is some cringy child acting and some of the horror (the broken bones lady) is over the top, but it's an original story that holds your interest for the runtime of the film. Not one of Shyamalan's best but it's a pretty good film and one that is at the very least different from the endless action flicks that are produced these days.
