I haven't quite put it together, but there was something unique in the way Nikki put this together...something about the way it was shot and produced. Right off the bat, due to the intimate space, she is able to connect with the viewer with her thank you. (Rory Scovel did something similar but it didn't connect like that).
I know some people will say, as I've read for years, that she is "off-putting." But those are just people who can watch hours of male comedians discuss identical topics without issue. So they can deal with their own issues.
This is a great example of how she is a great storyteller, who has some great jokes...but often the best "jokes" are simply the timing of an aside, the throwing off of something like "sept 11" and so on.
I really like this special. I will say, though, I ADORED the "Perfect" special and pretty much every appearance she made on @midnight. This is definitely worth a watch.

Yes its crude and yes its specific, so I guess it all depends on who's watching. Both my husband and I thought it was funny. It was a little slow for me at first, and honestly, I think her audience sucked (do people even know the comedians they're going to see?), but by the end I was cackling. She's a little like Amy Schumer in that her content is raunchy and explicit, but Nikki's actually funny and it doesn't seem forced.
Comedy is very subjective, so I totally see why some would not enjoy a comedy special focussed exclusively on the topic of sex. I didn't enjoy any of Kevin Hart's standup. Literally did not laugh once through 20 minutes of each of them - which is why I stopped watching after 20 minutes. But many people really enjoyed it, so who am I to discredit their tastes? If sex makes you uncomfortable or you have experienced sexual trauma in your life, be warned that Bangin' will offend you at some point. If that happens early on, it will set the tone for the rest of the show, so I would suggest you cut your losses. As a 40 year old married man, this was one of my favorite stand-ups on Netflix. Just when you think it can't get any raunchier, Nikki finds another notch on the dial. Yes, some of the humour is not new, but her delivery, sincerity and personalization of it is genius. I will always be a fan of Nikki after this.
I find a lot of people who review Nikki Glaser, and others want to project that it's more of the usual 'filth'. The funny thing is, they always specify 'another WOMAN telling raunchy jokes' but they don't say 'Another MAN telling di*k jokes'. It's actually refreshing to hear her be honest in a self-deprecating way AND give a glimpse into some pre and post-sex behavior, along with her priorities. I think the negative reviews are from people who had their mind made up before even seeing it (if they saw it at all). Give it a try for 10 minutes and if you don't like it, then go watch Jeselnik or someone else. Don't listen to people who dislike it for the sake of disliking it.
It's not great, but not terrible either. She's recently been on a few podcasts I listen to: JRE, Bert, YMH, etc. and I found her to be extremely funny and captivating to listen to. It's not just the sex stuff, it's the flow of the conversations and the way she tells a story that got me hooked. I wish this special was more of what I heard on podcasts. She did say she has no rhythm and you can 100% feel that. Maybe that's why people are turned off by it. The laughs from the audience seemed lower volume too. Idk if the was done in post production or they never mic'd the room or she just didn't get big laughs from people? The stage and lighting was excellent and she looked banging af up there. The content was good too. It wasn't bad comedy either. As a straight male, most of it grossed me out, but that's what I loved about it.
I'm not a critic or some comedy genius. I'm some dude on the internet and Nikki is way more successful than me. She knows what she's doing and is funny. She wouldn't be where she is today if she wasn't funny. Sometimes things just don't hit that level you're excepting and this special is what that is. I give a 5/10.
