To judge by this weekend’s box office, Oscars mean little to the movie-loving public. The five available Best Picture contenders — “The Father,” “Minari,” “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Nomadland,” and “Promising Young Woman” — grossed in the range of $200,000-$300,000.
However, “Promising” also dropped from $19.99 to $5.99 on VOD one day after Academy announced its five nominations. It now ranks on every chart we list, including #1 on Apple TV. “Minari” also received increased attention, even at $19.99. Of note is its #5 placement at Spectrum Cable; not only do its customers tend to reflect mass-audience tastes, but the chart ranks by rentals, not price. That shows significant crossover interest.
“Nomadland” is available on Hulu and “Judas” is available at HBO Max (through March 28), so any Oscar impacts at home are unknown. “The Father” will be available on PVOD March 26.
“Monster Hunter,” also now available as a standard-price VOD, is the other title to...

With so many streaming services to choose from, it can often be difficult to find the right one to spend your hard-earned dough on. That being said, Hulu has remained among the most exciting and content-heavy platforms alongside Netflix, really cementing itself as one of the most appealing options out there in recent years thanks to its collection of original content and very, very deep library of licensed films.
Like every other streaming service, they bring us new titles every month and July is looking to be quite a good one. Especially if you’re a horror fan. Admittedly, Hulu has always been pretty reliable when it comes to this particular genre, and that’s a reputation they seem intent to keep, as next month will bring us the likes of The Devil’s Rejects, Freddy vs. Jason, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, House of 1000 Corpses, The Ninth Gate, The House That Jack Built...

Exclusive: Sarah Dugdale (In The Shadow Of The Moon) is set as a series regular opposite Alexandra Breckenridge in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s Virgin River romance drama series. Additionally, Grayson Gurnsey, who recurred in the first season, has been promoted to series regular for season 2 of the series based on the bestselling books by Robyn Carr.
The contemporary romance story is centered around nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe’s (Breckenridge) recent move to the remote California town of Virgin River. Yearning for a fresh start, Monroe soon discovers that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected and that she must learn to heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home. Martin Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Lauren Hammersley, Jenny Cooper, Colin Lawrence, and Daniel Gillies also star.

The college admissions scandal is one of the biggest headlines in years, so naturally, there's going to be a Lifetime movie about it! Simply titled The College Admissions Scandal, the Lifetime movie will have a fictionalized take on the real events surrounding "Operation Varsity Blues," which caught up several high-profile Hollywood stars and wealthy elites who had been taking illegal actions to get their children into college. Rather than portray the real-life characters in the scandal, Lifetime's movie will be telling a similar story that follows the same basic storyline, but with completely fictional characters rather than portraying the real-life people involved. Ahead, check out which actors will be bringing this story to life - and how one of them is connected to one of the real scandal's most high-profile people.

The college admissions scandal involving Full House's Lori Loughlin and Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman rocked the nation back in March, and now it's inspired a Lifetime movie. However, the film - which is aptly and conspicuously titled The College Admissions Scandal - won't directly call out Loughlin and Huffman's part in the whirlwind of deception, despite my personal desire for all the dramatized tea.
Still, the first official trailer for the movie looks as juicy and kind of heartbreaking as the actual incident. It teases the storylines of two moms set on getting their kids into prestigious colleges, even if it means bribing school officials, rigging exams, and doctoring pictures of the children playing sports to "earn" scholarships. If this wasn't based on a true story, I'd think the clip was pretty melodramatic, but alas, this is the world we live in. Watch the trailer above, and have your popcorn...

In today’s TV news roundup, HBO drops the first trailer for its four-part series “Catherine the Great,” and Lifetime’s “The College Admissions Scandal” movie sets a premiere date.
Dates
Lifetime‘s “The College Admissions Scandal” will premiere Oct. 12. The movie stars Penelope Ann Miller and Mia Kirshner as two wealthy mothers who pay their way, and break the law, to get their teenage children into top colleges. The story is loosely based on the recent high-profile admissions scandal centered around Lori Loughlin, who is accused of laundering close to half a million dollars to get her daughter into USC, and Felicity Huffman, who has also been accused of facilitating cheating on her daughter’s Sat exam.
Facebook Watch announced “Limetown,“ starring Jessica Biel and Stanley Tucci, will premiere Oct. 16. The drama is based on the hit fiction podcast of the same name and follows American Public Radio‘s...

If your first thought when the college admissions scandal first broke was, “This seems like exactly the type of material that would benefit from an even-handed documentary shedding light on the evils of the Ivy League industrial complex and an educational system that prioritizes wealth and privilege over individual character and merit,” then you’re about to be sorely disappointed, sis, because that movie has not happened! However, if your first thought was, “Wow, what a mess, I can’t wait to see the Jewish best friend from Adventures in Babysitting...

The first trailer for Lifetime’s upcoming movie about the college admissions scandal just dropped — and it draws clear parallels to the real-life high profile scandal.
The movie stars Penelope Ann Miller (Riverdale, American Crime) and Mia Kirshner (Star Trek: Discovery, The L Word) as two wealthy mothers desperate to get their teenagers into the best possible college.
In the trailer, Miller’s character Caroline vows she’ll “do anything” for her son, who she claims is “losing his way” — and she eventually pays to alter his Sat scores. Her story appears to be inspired by actress Felicity Huffman, who...
