George Foreman, the charismatic boxer turned infomercial star who had a retail hit with his Foreman Grill product line, died Friday. He was 76.
The Texas-born Foreman became Heavyweight Champion of the World, and segued into a TV staple and pop culture icon. He was swept up in the swirl of decade-defining events surrounding Muhammad Ali as well as Joe Frazier and other high-wattage pugilists of the 1970s. In the 1990s, Foreman took advantage of the availablity of low-cost TV time to launch his Foreman Grill home grill product through a series of infomercials that he hosted.
Foreman famously had a close call in the ring in 1977 that drove him to quit boxing and declare himself a born-again Christian. He became an ordained minister in 1978 and began preaching in his hometown of Houston. He shocked the sports world when he returned to boxing in 1987 and wound up reclaiming his Heavyweight Champion...

The appearance of Napoleon in movies has resulted in everything from historical epics to love stories and fantasy epics to madcap comedies. Napoleon Bonaparte was the Emperor of France who earned this role thanks to his success as a military leader as he roared across Europe conquering several countries during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. His success was short-lived, as he ended up in exile, where he died six years after losing his position. As with many famed historical military and political leaders, Napoleon has been used in several movies.
His story, featuring his rise to power, incredible military success, and eventual fall from grace in France, has been told since the silent era of films and as recently as 2023 when Ridley Scott set his sights on telling his story. However, thanks to his diminutive size and the use of the term “Napoleonic complex,” he has also been used...

Amy Adams' 2024 horror-comedy movie is about to have its streaming debut. Adams' first major role was in Steven Spielberg's 2002 movie Catch Me If You Can as Brenda Strong, a naive hospital nurse that Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) falls in love with, although the relationship is ultimately doomed. More recognition, including Adams' first Academy Award nomination, followed her performance in the 2005 comedy-drama Junebug. In the 2007 musical movie Enchanted, Adams cemented herself as a leading actor through her portrayal of Giselle.
Many of the projects considered Amy Adams' best movies would come in the years that followed, including the science-fiction drama Arrival directed by Denis Villeneuve. Between playing Amelia Earhart in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Lois Lane in the DC Extended Universe, and Sister James in the drama Doubt, Adams proved to be an actor who could excel in any genre. The writing duo of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are best known for their work on comedies and family friendly projects: Reno 911!, Taxi (2004), The Pacifier, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Let’s Go to Prison, Balls of Fury, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Baywatch (2017), Night at the Museum, and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. But they’ve also written the horror comedy Hell Baby, and Garant has written the horror films The Veil and Jessabelle. So it’s not entirely off brand to hear that they wrote the initial screenplay for the upcoming horror film The Casket Girls, with Gabrielle Union (Breaking In) on board to star and executive produce.

Ben Stiller never intended to go so long without leading a movie. The fan-favorite actor recently opened up about taking a seven-year break (save for the odd cameo) from movies, revealing that it was never the plan.
While speaking with Variety about his new comedy Nutcrackers, Stiller admitted, "I never thought Id take this much time away from acting," promising his fans that "it wasnt intentional; it was just how things evolved." The actor explained that he got busy with Severance, the Apple TV+ series he executive produces and directs, which largely prevented him from taking on other jobs. However, when the 2023 Hollywood strikes happened, delaying production of Severance Season 2, Stiller found himself unexpectedly available, leading him to board Nutcrackers, which received a waiver from the unions to shoot given that it was made outside the studio system.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.
But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

Avengers, re-assemble!
Variety has reported that Shawn Levy, reliable director of “Night at the Museum,” “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” is “in the mix” to helm the next “Avengers” superhero team-up for Marvel. In late July, his promised-to-be-potty-mouthed R-rated “Deadpool & Wolverine” will hit theaters and, clearly, Marvel’s leader, Kevin Feige, liked what he saw.
Marvel is in desperate need of a course correction after some wobbly entries like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “The Marvels,” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” There was once a time when the Marvel opening logo was enough to print money and create cultural resonance, but those days have begun to wane, due in part to a glut of Disney+ streaming shows and the fact that “Avengers: Endgame” really did seem like a nice place to end the story. The word “end...

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the box office is looking grim. The “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa” is on track to score the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades, since 1998’s “Casper,” with an estimated $31 million take. But traditionally, the holiday weekend is a big one for moviegoing – kids are out of school, adults have three days off and the summer movie season is ready to roll.
For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

Whether it’s the questionable FX, the lead star’s very controversial dalliances, or just audiences being burned one too many times by Comic Book Films, there’s one movie that is all anyone can talk about. And look, I get it. There was a lot of craziness that went on during this production and had more people come and go due to creative differences than any movie we’ve covered on the show.
Warning you guys and gals right now, if you haven’t seen The Flash, you’re going to want to turn back now, because this is where things get Super spoilery.
Warner Brothers tried getting a Flash movie off the ground in the late 80’s with comic writer Jeph Loeb being brought in to write the screenplay. Unfortunately nothing ever came of the property until 2004 when David S Goyer signed on to write, direct and produce a new Flash.

The American Hustle cast includes some of the best actors of the 2010s with all its lead stars having either won an Oscar or secured multiple nominations. Directed by David O Russell, American Hustle is inspired by the FBI Abscam scandal of the 1970s and the 1980s. The narrative begins with the exploits of two con artists, who are eventually hired by the FBI to bring down several corrupt politicians through elaborate sting operations. Garnering ten nominations at the 2014 Oscars, Russell relied on many frequent collaborators like Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper to helm his period piece.
Even though American Hustle dramatizes the true events, the lead actors are not playing real-like figures (at least by name). The original draft, an unproduced screenplay by Eric Warren Singer, retained the actual names of the people involved in the Abscam scandal. But in his rewrites, Russell replaced the real figures with their caricatures.

The Dceu’s The Flash has seen several delays due to creative differences, but the quest to get a Flash movie made traces back to 2004. A founding member of the Justice League both in the comics and in the Dceu, Barry Allen has yet to receive a solo live-action film. The movie starred Ben Stiller as Larry Daley, a slacker father turned security guard, and he was accompanied by a host of top Hollywood talent including Robin Williams, Rami Malek, and Owen Wilson taking on the role of prominent historical figures. Night at the Museum gave rise to two sequels with Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb last gracing big screens in 2014. There are several Disney animated movies releasing after Strange World coming from Walt Disney Animation Studios, 20th Century Animation, and Pixar. Thanks to Disney's various mergers, the Mouse House is an even bigger player in the animated movie industry. Pixar remains the most recognizable animation brand, even as Disney shifted many of the studio's recent releases to Disney+. Despite the strength of all three animation studios, Disney's collective efforts are still only producing a handful of titles for the family to enjoy in theaters or on a streaming service. Strange World represents Walt Disney Animation Studios' only 2022 feature release.
The new Disney animated movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, and Lucy Liu as a family of adventures. Strange World's reviews point to it being another success for Disney in the animation department, which should inspire even more excitement for what is ahead. The good news...

Few expected that Shawn Levy would strike franchise gold in 2006 when the first "Night at the Museum" was released, but the film based on the 1993 children's book of the same name by Croatian illustrator Milan Trenc has since spawned two sequels, inspired a never-made theme park ride, and even got the Lego treatment in 2020. The original film centered on Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), a divorced father who finds a job at the American Museum of Natural History as a night guard. What appears to be an easy job of keeping an eye on a bunch of fossils and artifacts turns into the adventure of a lifetime after he discovers an ancient spell has caused the exhibits of the museum to come to life.
After the Fox-Disney merger, at-the-time CEO Bob Iger announced a new "Night at the Museum" animated feature, and now we're finally going to see the final product.

A new image from Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again reveals a first look at an animated Nick Daley. The Night at the Museum franchise began in 2006, when the first film starring Ben Stiller was released. The series followed Larry Daley (Stiller), who takes a job as a security guard at a museum where the artifacts come alive at night. The film was very successful and was followed by two sequels: Night at The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Night at The Museum Secret of the Tomb. The movies also included iconic performances from Robin Williams, who played a reanimated statue of Theodore Roosevelt, and Owen Wilson, who played a tiny cowboy.
In 2020, Disney announced the development of an animated reboot of the Night at the Museum franchise. Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again centers around Larry’s son, Nick Daley, who will follow in his father...

The Walking Dead is shambling toward its series finale, with the final episodes of its 11th season bringing the long-running zombie drama to its highly anticipated conclusion. Though future spinoffs will keep the franchise going, the flagship series will finally be put to a well-deserved rest.

Few movies have been both as eagerly anticipated and as deeply troubled as "The Flash." Despite being one of DC's most popular superheroes, bringing the Scarlet Speedster to the big screen for a solo adventure has proven to be a major challenge -- and that's saying the very least of it. The attempts date way back to the '80s, when superstar comic book writer Jeph Loeb was developing a script for a film that would have focused on the character. Yet, at every turn, something has gone wrong and prevented an adaptation from seeing the light of day.

Entertainment Weekly reported in 2008 that Jonah Hill was entering negotiations to join Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox in Michael Bay’s “Transforms” sequel. Hill’s profile was on the rise after his breakthrough role in the 2007 comedy blockbuster “Superbad,” and the second “Transformers” sequel was one of the hottest studio tentpoles in development. Hill turned down the role, and it might have had something to do with his “Superbad” co-star and writer Seth Rogen. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Rogen shared the advice he gave Hill about passing on Bay’s sequel.
As The New York Times reports: “Rogen recalled his friend Jonah Hill’s approaching him for advice after being offered a part in a ‘Transformers’ sequel. ‘I can see if Steven Spielberg’s calling you, asking you to do something, how that’s hard to turn down,’ Rogen told an interviewer, recounting the exchange.

While the first day of spring technically belongs to March, everyone knows that it kicks into high gear in April. To celebrate the changing of the seasons, Hulu is finally bringing back its signature original series for April 2021.
Season 4 of the multiple Emmy award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on April 28. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen June and her dystopian world. In fact, it’s been so long that our own world decided to endure its own dystopian pandemic in the meantime. Hopefully this series’ return will mean we can keep our political and social collapses on television where they belong.
Aside from The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu isn’t brining much else to the table in terms of originals this month. Thankfully, the one other original that Hulu has in store for April sounds completely righteous. Sasquatch, the latest docuseries from the Duplass brothers producing team, will cover exactly what the title promises.

The Marvel machine continues apace on Disney+ this month.
Disney+’s list of new releases of April 2021 is highlighted by the highlight of March’s list as well: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Three episode of this highly anticipated series will premiere in April, including the series(?) finale on April 23.
But of course, it’s not all Marvel all the time on Disney+…sometimes its Star Wars time as well! There aren’t any new original Star Wars series coming to the streaming world until The Bad Batch premieres on May 4. It’s spiritual successor arrives in April, however. Star Wars: Clone Wars Volumes 1 and 2 both premiere on April 2. These are the animated classics from Genndy Tartakovsky that jumpstarted a new era of Star Wars storytelling. Notorious mobster Al Capone was a larger than life bootlegger, racketeer, killer and organized crime boss in the first half of the 20th century, who has been portrayed on big-screen and small for seven decades. Here is a look at the actors who took on the challenge. And, if you’re curious, here is archival footage of Scarface himself.
Rod Steiger – “Al Capone” (1959) • Rod Steiger played Capone with deliberate showiness, from the roar of his voice to the tilt of hid fedora. Although he won a Laurel Award for his performance, Capone’s sister wasn’t crazy about the film – she sued the filmmakers for $10 million for invasion of privacy because they failed to get permission from the Capone estate to make it. The suit was eventually dismissed. Check out Steiger as Capone in a clip here.

Michael Rooker will play Clyde, an expert hunter who teaches Joel Dawson (O'Brien) how to survive the Monster Apocalypse. No word on how Greenblatt's Minnow fits into the story at this time. Al Capone is America’s best known gangster and the single greatest symbol of the collapse of law and order in the United States during the 1920s Prohibition era. Capone had a leading role in the illegal activities that lent Chicago its reputation as a lawless city and an interesting variety of Hollywood stars have had the leading role as Al Capone in the many films that have been made that featured him as a character.
The first film about Capone was produced when he was still making headlines. The main character may be named Antonio Camonte, but there’s little doubt as to who producer Howard Hughes had in mind when he and director Howard Hawks filmed Scarface during the Great Depression. Camonte shares more than the same initials with one Al Capone, who was about to begin his eleven-year sentence for tax evasion when the movie was released...

The legacy of Albert Einstein cannot be overstated — even when we take the scientist’s accomplishments for granted, he’s one of our planet’s most famous pop culture figures, recognizable across generations. The way he’s been depicted on screen has ranged from well-researched takes on the man’s life, such as Nat Geo Channel’s new anthology series “Genius,” premiering today, to, shall we say, somewhat more out-there fare.

After several years in development, Warner Bros. is finally moving forward on a new incarnation of The Cannonball Run. Deadline reports that the studio has secured the rights to the original 1981 classic, hiring Etan Cohen to write the script and direct. This report claims the studio doesn't consider this project a "remake," but rather a "relaunch" of the franchise.
Back in 2011, we reported that Warner Bros. was in discussions to team up with auto manufacturer General Motors for a Cannonball Run remake. When Mr. Robot debuted back in June, the show was pitched as a ripped-from-the-headlines techno-thriller, with the return of Christian Slater to TV as its main attraction. Now, two months and 10 episodes later, the USA network has an unlikely hit on its hands: a visually striking, subversive, and often surprising drama about the dehumanizing effects of our corporate-controlled, internet-addicted modern world. And a lot of the credit for the show's out-of-left-field success belongs to the man who plays the series' troubled hacker hero — the 34-year-old character actor Rami Malek.

Actor-filmmaker Christopher Guest has revolutionized the "mockumentary" format, satirizing rock spectacle (This Is Spinal Tap), stage musicals (Waiting for Guffman), dog shows (Best in Show) and folk music (A Mighty Wind). For his latest project, he's teamed with Netflix to poke fun at a more obscure topic: the grueling grind of mascot competitions. The streaming service announced Mascots on Tuesday, Deadline reports, teasing the movie with a poster outlining the basic plot.

When The Terminator was tested in a California shopping mall in 1984, it caused a riot. 25 years later, Terminator Salvation opened to mixed reviews and, critically for a $200 million blockbuster, it failed to take the top spot from the current box office champion, A Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
Not only was it the first Terminator not to open at #1, but with a paltry domestic haul of $125 million, Salvation was the lowest grossing sequel in the franchise. Worldwide, it made $371 million, less than double its production budget and considerably less than either Judgment Day ($519 million) or Rise Of The Machines ($433 million).
Fans demanded to know what had ‘gone wrong’. Where, they wondered, were all the signature elements: the time travel paradoxes, the single, indestructible villain and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 character? Why were the tone and the look so different? Why was it rated...
