Steven Spielberg Wanted To Direct A Movie In This Iconic Franchise
Image
Steven Spielberg was always destined to become the legendary director he is today. He grew up with a deep love for movies and was making his own amateur films long before he briefly studied the subject at California State University, Long Beach.

During his formative years, several films played a vital role in shaping his sensibility, beginning with "Lawrence of Arabia" (which Spielberg has described as "the film that set me on my journey"). But there were several other hugely influential movies of the era that were nothing like that 1962 epic. Most notably, any kid coming of age in the 1960s was going to be a fan of James Bond,...

Taika Waititi To Produce ‘Fyre Fest The Musical’ Stage Comedy About Festival Fraudster Billy McFarland
Image
Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi is set to produce a New York-bound stage musical-comedy about the ill-fated Fyre Festival and its creator Billy McFarland, with “Skyfall” songwriter Paul Epworth composing the score and The Pirates of Somalia director Bryan Buckley writing the book and directing.

Announced today at a launch event on a barge anchored in New York Harbor, Fyre Fest The Musical will also feature a set design by Hamilton designer David Korins. A production timeline or Broadway plans were not disclosed.

“Working in the theater is always fun,” said Waititi in a statement. “I mean I haven’t done it for 15 years because it was no longer fun, but I’ve been told it will be fun this time. And I believe them. When Bryan Buckley told me he wanted to make a musical about the Fyre Festival, I said ‘Who the hell is Bryan Buckley?...

Sam Mendes Recalls Daniel Craig’s ‘Worst Audition Ever’
Image
Director Sam Mendes once revealed that Daniel Craig gave him the “worst audition” he had ever seen, but it didn’t stop him from casting the actor. Mendes shared the story while speaking on BBC Radio 4’s This Cultural Life in December 2022 with host John Wilson.

Mendes explained that during the casting for Road to Perdition, he was looking for someone to play Paul Newman’s son.

The studio had already spent heavily on stars like Tom Hanks, Newman, and Jude Law, so they asked Mendes to find a cheaper fourth actor. That search eventually led him to Craig.

When Craig came in to read, Mendes admitted it was a disaster.

Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Ron Perlman, Ted Levine, and Margarita Levieva cast in the Cape Fear TV series
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
At one point in time, Steven Spielberg was set to direct the thriller Cape Fear, while Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the historical drama Schindler’s List. Then Scorsese decided to step away from Schindler’s List, a choice that coincided with Spielberg deciding that Cape Fear was too violent for him. So the directors traded movies – resulting in Scorsese directing Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis to Oscar nominations for Cape Fear and Spielberg turning Schindler’s List into a Best Picture winner. Now, Spielberg and Scorsese are teaming up to executive produce a TV series adaptation of Cape Fear, with Nick Antosca on board as executive producer...

F1 Box Office: Brad Pitt’s Racing Drama Nears Casino Royale & Wandering Earth II Milestones ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Joseph Kosinski’s sports drama F1 with Brad Pitt in the lead has been racing ahead since its release on June 25. For more than two months now, the film has held its ground, though its strength lies more overseas than in North America. Now, nearly ten weeks in theatres, it is still about 12 million dollars short of reaching the 200 million dollar mark domestically. Yet the worldwide numbers tell a different story as F1 has crossed 600 million dollars, with close to 70% of the total coming from international markets.

Daniel Craig’s Most Intense Casino Royale Scene Was Almost Removed for Being Too Violent
Image
Daniel Craig‘s best James Bond movie outing had one violent scene that almost got cut out. During his debut as Bond in Casino Royale, Craig appeared in a torture scene that was very rough to watch for the audience. Mads Mikkelsen‘s villain, Le Chiffre, strips him naked, ties him to a chair, and starts torturing him.

The scene was controversial at the time of the film’s release, as Craig’s tortured hero was very different from the earlier ‘cool’ iterations of the hero. Mikkelsen recalled in an interview with GamesRadar that the scene was a little too radical for the main character.

He shared,

It was actually...

Austin Butler Says Playing James Bond Would Be “Kind Of Sacrilegious”
Image
As the 007 casting speculation reaches across the pond, Austin Butler is taking himself out of the running.

The Oscar nominee admitted it “would be kind of sacrilegious” for him to play the British MI6 agent as a California-born-and-raised actor, despite his willingness to work with his Dune: Part Two (2024) director Denis Villeneuve again.

“No calls as far as that goes, but I love that man,” he told Hits Radio UK. “Would I play James Bond? I don’t think that would be a good idea. Because I’m an American. I can do an accent but that would be kind of sacrilegious.

Butler continued, “Those movies meant so much to me, but I think that it’s gotta be somebody who is from [England].”

On the other hand, “Villain? That would be alright. I’d do that.”

10 Netflix Originals That Cost More Than Some Iconic Hollywood Movies
Image
When Netflix first started making its own movies, most people thought of them as small, quirky projects meant to fill out a streaming library. Fast forward a few years, and the platform is casually dropping movies with budgets that rival and, in some cases, surpass Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.

From action-packed spy thrillers to sweeping historical dramas and even animated family flicks, the streaming giant has proven it’s willing to throw hundreds of millions of dollars at projects that never even touch a movie theater screen. But here’s the kicker: many of these Netflix originals cost more than iconic Hollywood films we associate with massive scale — think Avatar,...

Brands Are Buying Their Way Into Writers’ Rooms
Image
In June, two former Pulse Films creative executives, Marisa Clifford and Davud Karbassioun, officially unveiled their new Magna Studios, a production house that produced film, branded entertainment and music content, and had already quietly delivered global campaigns for Nike and Spotify.

Movie and TV watchers are used to seeing product placement, like Eleven’s Eggo fixation in “Stranger Things” or a bevy of items seen in “Love Island.” But a number of companies are taking a more active hand in how their brands are portrayed in shows and movies and getting into these productions earlier than ever.

They include Starbucks Studios, founded in 2024, Rei-Co-Op Studios, which launched 2021, and Red Bull Studios Media House, which released its first feature film in 2011. Last week, Dick’s Sporting Goods launched its in-house production studio for unscripted sports-themed TV series.

These new movie and TV backers do more than pay a fee to place a...

Who Is Scott Rose-Marsh: Next James Bond Actor Repeats Daniel Craig’s 007 Controversy
Image
Scott Rose-Marsh, a little-known British actor from Southampton, has entered the 007 race as the next James Bond candidate [The Hollywood Reporter] into the fiery and unforgiving pit of Hollywood controversy. In stark contrast to fan-favorite contenders like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner, and Jack Lowden, Rose-Marsh has dropped straight out of relative anonymity and into the pit of controversy.

Like Daniel Craig, the first impression that Scott Rose-Marsh has left on fans is based on his hair, as opposed to his talent as an actor. The redheaded actor has broken new ground for the classic spy franchise, after Craig’s casting had previously led to mass outrage over his blond hair.

Despite following closely on the heels of his predecessor, nothing is set in stone yet for the BBC star with regard to his casting as the next James Bond.

‘Butterfly’ Review: Prime Video’s Best Spy Show Yet
Image
Prime Video has been trying to crack the code for making a great spy action drama for quite some time now. The first season of The Family Man was pretty amazing, but then the next two seasons came out, and everything, from the story to the visuals, took a nosedive. They invested a huge amount of money into Citadel and its spin-offs, Diana and Honey Bunny, but all of them were pretty much dead on arrival. As far as I know, the franchise has been shelved as well. Mr. and Mrs. Smith had a decent concept, but it was an extremely dour affair. If I stretch the horizons of the subgenre to stories that deal with domestic and international terrorism, then Reacher, Terminal List, and Countdown can be taken into consideration. And, to be really honest, Jack Reacher’s saga is the only real winner out of those three. Now,...

Taron Egerton Doesn't Think He'd Make A Good James Bond For One Reason
Image
After 15 years of bringing James Bond to life over the course of five films, Daniel Craig officially retired from the role of 007 in 2021's "No Time To Die." The film served as a definitive send-off to Craig's iteration of the character, who was subject to varied quality with his films. The odd-numbered entries were great, while the even-numbered entries left much to be desired ("Quantum of Solace" and "Spectre").

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is set to direct "James Bond 26," which he will tackle right after he completes work on his much-anticipated trilogy capper, "Dune: Part Three." Naturally, most of the speculation online is now on who will succeed Daniel Craig. While fans continue to throw out every young British actor possible for the new 007, there is at least one acclaimed actor who does not see himself as a fit, and that is none other than "Smoke" star Taron Egerton.

Leonardo Dicarpio & Kate Winslet's 67% Rt Post-Titanic Reunion Is Now Streaming For Free
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's post-Titanic reunion is now streaming for free. Their original collaboration was written and directed by James Cameron, blending real-life events with fictional drama. They star as two lovers from different social backgrounds aboard the ill-fated Rms Titanic during its maiden voyage in 1912.

Titanic was a landmark movie in many ways. It was the most expensive movie ever made at the time, with a production budget of $200 million, but wholly paid off by making $2.264 billion at the box office, the first film to ever surpass the billion-dollar mark, and was the highest-grossing movie of all time until Cameron's own Avatar took the title in 2010.

Critically acclaimed, Titanic received 14 Academy Award nominations and took home 11 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, tying the record set by Ben-Hur (1959). Among its many accomplishments, Titanic also propelled DiCaprio and Winslet to stardom, and the duo shared the...

Tom Holland’s James Bond Response Might Be Hinting ‘I Already Signed the Deal’

Tom Holland Plays Coy About James Bond Casting Rumors: “There’s Speculation”

If there’s any truth to rumors that Tom Holland is in the running to play James Bond, he’s keeping it top-secret for now.

As the BAFTA winner returns to one major franchise with Friday’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day teaser, he recently commented on “speculation” that he’s up for the coveted part in the Denis Villeneuve-helmed update of the franchise.

James Bond Writer Steven Knight Teases His Plans for Amazon's 007 Reboot
Image
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is confirmed as the writer for the forthcoming James Bond film, which will be directed by Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, and it sounds like he has big plans for Amazon's takeover of the 007 franchise. News of Knight's involvement with the reboot only broke one day ago, but he has wasted no time in sharing his love for the iconic British spy series and what he hopes to bring to the table when it comes to the top-secret project — other than a martini... of course.

Knight recently received praise for his latest series, the British historical drama A Thousand Blows on Disney+ and Hulu, but his next undertaking is even more high-profile. He told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast on Friday, Aug. 1, that being involved in a 007 film had always been on his "bucket list," as he expressed his commitment to helping usher in...

James Bond New Movie By Amazon MGM Studios: Full Details Revealed

Amazon MGM Studios has officially taken the baton from the former MGM Studios, greenlighting the next chapter in the James Bond franchise. With Steven Knight tapped as screenwriter, the next film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, as Deadline reports.

With Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers and Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer, the announcement comes after Amazon acquired full creative control of the franchise back in February, in a deal with Bond fame producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Steven Knight to Write Next ‘James Bond’ Movie at Amazon MGM Studios
Image
With the director now in place, Amazon MGM Studios has hired “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight to write the screenplay for the 26th James Bond film — the first installment since longtime stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson ceded full creative control of the franchise to the studio.

Oscar-nominated “Dune” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct the first new installment of the franchise since Daniel Craig’s tenure.

Plans for the new Bond movies are under lock and key, but newly installed producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman made a statement with Villeneuve’s hiring: This new Bond will be stylish. It will be big. And it could even make an awards splash.

This is in contrast to the majority of the films in the 25-movie series, which were largely directed by journeyman filmmakers without signature styles and which kept budgets fairly in check. This choice shows that Amazon...

Highest-Grossing James Bond Movie of All Time Loses Top Spot to 'Jurassic World Rebirth’ at the Domestic Box Office
Image
The James Bond franchise is all set for a reboot under the direction of Denis Villeneuve; the filmmaker is currently working on the third Dune film, after which he will presumably focus his attention on the new 007 movies. No star has been cast in the titular role yet, although punters have been rather busy in these past few months. Meanwhile, Daniel Craig has seamlessly transitioned to his next franchise: Knives Out. He retired as Bond with 2021's No Time to Die, which did rather well at the box office despite being delayed for a few years. Craig's top-grossing Bond film, however, remains Skyfall. The blockbuster, which is often regarded as the best Bond movie of all time, was recently overtaken at the domestic box office by Jurassic World Rebirth.

The Dinosaur movie's $305 million running domestic haul puts it ahead of Skyfall's $304 million haul from 2012. Directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes,...

Mission Impossible Final Reckoning Worldwide Box Office: Finally Surpasses A Disappointing Daniel Craig James Bond Movie, And It’s Not Spectre

Tom Cruise’s Final Reckoning Overtakes Quantum Of Solace Worldwide, Becoming The Only Ethan Hunt Film To Outshine A Bond Movie!(Photo Credit –Facebook/Prime Video)

Tom Cruise’s seemingly impossible mission has accomplished something that few expected it to given it came out way back on Memorial Day. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning has now administered yet another blow to Daniel Craig-era James Bond films, and this time it’s the whole wide world bearing the witness.

Amid the many conclusions one may draw, this box office victory reinforces the notion that audience appreciation for authentic action filmmaking transcends the ever-changing market spectrum that has seen no superhero movie gross $250 million at the international box office this year.

‘She Rides Shotgun’ Review: Taron Egerton Is a Dad Breaking Bad in Confident, Riveting Thriller
Image
“She Rides Shotgun” stars Ana Sophia Heger as Polly, a young girl who does not cling to the side of a carriage while wielding a blunderbuss, as she blasts away masked bandits who want to steal her Western Union packages. This is a shame. But one of the hardest lessons we have to learn in life is that some titles are only metaphors. (I’ll never forget the day I saw “Skyfall.” I should have left my umbrella at home.)

Instead, Polly is a little girl who waits and waits and waits after school, but her mom never picks her up. Instead her father, Nate (Taron Egerton), trundles along in a ramshackle car with a freshly busted window, telling her everything is alright, yes he did just get out of prison, and no, her mom isn’t coming. Red flag! Red flag! Red flag!

Polly is terrified but conflicted, because Nate’s still her dad.

An Iconic Zombie Film Is Resurrected on Streaming Charts Decades Later
Image
It's been over two decades since 28 Days Later, the film that revolutionized the zombie genre with a quickly-spreading virus and terrifying fast zombies. Now, with the franchise expanding, the original is rising to the top of the streaming charts.

Per Collider, 28 Days Later has now become one of the ten most-streamed movies on AMC+. It's currently in fifth place in the top ten. The Walking Dead: Dead City is also one of the most streamed titles on the platform.

28 Days Later can be considered as one of the pillars of the zombie movie genre. When it first came out in 2002, critics raved about it. "In a big-budget, star-studded summer, Boyle has made a cheap monster movie with a cast of nobodies, and it gives the first genuine jolt of the season," The National Post wrote in a since-deleted review, quoted on Rotten Tomatoes' critic reviews page for the film.

James Bond Highest-Grossing Movie (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

It’s been four years since Daniel Craig’s No Time to Die hit theatres. While it’s confirmed that Dune helmer Denis Villeneuve will direct the next installment, there’s still no official word on who will step into the role of the next James Bond. James Bond's Biggest Box Office Hit Is Now a Streaming Sensation
Image
One of the greatest films in the James Bond franchise, which also marked the action film series' commercial peak, is now a smash hit online over a decade after its premiere. The Daniel Craig-led 007 flick, Skyfall, is on cloud nine in the streaming world as James Bond heads in a new creative direction.

Per Collider,Skyfall is one of the most popular titles on the Amazon-owned MGM+ months after Amazon acquired the creative rights to the James Bond franchise from long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Skyfall is charting well in the United Kingdom and Germany as it climbs the global charts.

Regarded as one of the best James Bond movies of all time, Skyfall is considered the apex of the Craig era. Coming after Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, Skyfall sees Craig return as the titular sharp-suited agent alongside Judi Dench, who reprised her...

Michael: Everything We Know About the Michael Jackson Biopic (Updated with 2026 release date)
Image
One of the most controversial movies of the near future could be Michael, director Antoine Fuqua’s high-profile biopic about the life of Michael Jackson. Despite glowing reactions to early footage, the film’s release has reportedly been delayed due to legal complications. Lionsgate, the studio behind the film, had initially hoped it would be a major awards-season contender and a box office juggernaut this year – but now, it has been confirmed that they’re waiting to give the film a global theatrical release on April 24, 2026. (With a second film already in development.) So, what exactly is going on with Michael? Here’s what we know so far.

Michael comes from producer Graham King, the man behind Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic that grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide and took home several Oscars. Like that film, Michael has endured its share of pre-release hurdles. While production reportedly went smoothly, the...

Bad Guys 2 Star Was Inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s Greatest Villain for Kitty Kat Role
Image
Quentin Tarantino is known to have a knack for writing the most singularly unique characters and imbuing them with a background arc and a story that unravels over the course of a movie. Hans Landa was one such character who was created by the writer-director and subsequently made immortal by Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz in his villainous arc on Inglourious Basterds.

Now it seems as though Waltz’s arc was not a one-and-done deal for the movie industry. A role as great as Landa’s is wasted in the past, and The Bad Guys 2 director Pierre Perifel knew exactly how to bring his menacing personality back without offending the purists and Tarantino fans.

15 Highest-Grossing Movie Composers Of All Time
Image
Steven Spielberg is the highest-grossing director with $10.7 billion in worldwide box office (not adjusted for inflation), with James Cameron right behind at $8.7 billion, basically one "Avatar" movie. The top-grossing actors include Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt each in the $14 billion range (unadjusted). Pretty darn impressive ... but film composers scoff at such meager numbers, probably while twirling their batons.

The highest-earning film composers don't just match these figures; they far exceed them. Movie composers get their due credit, as their work is frequently one of the most enjoyable and enduring parts of the films we love. But while we talk a lot about composers, it's not often that the conversation turns to what really matters in Hollywood -- the money they make for movie studios. We're going to change that right now. You have seen their movies. You definitely know their work. Now...

Broccoli Gives Green Light to Villeneuve’s Vision for Bond 26
007
Barbara Broccoli, who guided 007 for 44 years, says Denis Villeneuve is “a fantastic filmmaker” and that she is “thrilled he’s going to be doing it,” marking her first public reaction to his hiring for Bond 26 after stepping aside earlier this year. Her remarks, made during a widely shared podcast appearance, also confirmed she will focus on stage work and other films rather than provide day‑to‑day input on the spy series.

Creative control now rests with Amazon MGM Studios and new producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, ending the Broccoli‑Wilson era that began in 1995. The studio announced Villeneuve’s appointment on 25 June, describing him as a childhood Bond devotee who views the character as “sacred territory.” The director has long called the assignment a “massive yes,” a sentiment he first voiced while promoting Dune in 2021.

Industry analysts see the choice as a signal that Amazon wants a prestige‑minded,...

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Call Out Show Over ‘Confusing’ James Bond Clue
Image
Jeopardy! clues can often be tricky, but it doesn’t help matters when the phrasing of a question confuses viewers. On Monday’s (July 7) episode, contestants Ashley Caval Curto, Vince Carter, and reigning champion Scott Riccardi were faced with a Final Jeopardy! clue that had some viewers at home scratching their heads. The clue read: “The last 2 Best Song Oscar winners whose titles were the same name as the movie they were in had this man in the leading role.” Both Riccardi and Carter answered correctly with “Who is Daniel Craig?” while Curto responded with the incorrect, “Who is Timothée Chalamet?” The clue referred to the songs “No Time to Die” and “Skyfall”—both Oscar-winning tracks that share their titles with the James Bond films for which they were written. “No Time to Die” was performed by Billie Eilish, while “Skyfall” was sung by Adele. However, the clue was looking...

Forgotten 36% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-Fi Thriller Starring Cillian Murphy Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming
Image
The great cinematographer Roger Deakins is quite selective these days; even more so after winning two Oscars. He works only on massive tent poles, or on new films directed by past collaborators. But in 2011, between shooting the Coen Brothers' True Gritand Sam Mendes' Skyfall, Deakins shot a science-fiction thriller that earned terrible reviews, had little impact on the cultural landscape, but marked a career-altering first for him. Directed by Andrew Niccol, the movie In Time did fairly well at the box office and is now rising up the HBO viewership charts.

According to FlixPatrol, it was the seventh-most-watched film on HBO on July 8, ahead of Jordan Peele's Get Out, the cult classic Napoleon Dynamite, and the recent animated film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. The HBO charts were topped by Ryan Coogler's Sinners, and the hit video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie. In...

This Beatles Legend, 85, Admits the Script Changes He Made to the Upcoming Sam Mendes-Helmed Band Biopic
Image
For years, there have been cries for a thorough, big-budget biopic centered on music's most famous quartet: The Beatles. Now, not only are we getting one, but we're getting four, with director Sam Mendes bringing the personal and professional lives of John, Paul, George, and Ringo to the big screen in a cinematic event truly like no other. As the director told a packed audience at the CinemaCon market event earlier this year, "We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house."

Currently, Harris Dickinson is set to appear as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and, finally, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, with the trio of Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Adolescence's Jack Thorne penning each script. However, it seems as if the trio have had help piecing together the story from one of the two remaining members of the Fab Four.

"That's Not How We Were": 4-Part Beatles Movies Received One Key Script Note From Original Band Member
Image
Sam Mendes may be attempting the world’s most ambitious musical biopic project with The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, but one original Beatle is ensuring it stays true to the band’s history. Originally announced in February 2024, the four-part exploration of the Fab Four will feature a movie told from the perspective of each band member.

Back in May of this year, Barry Keoghan, who is set to portray The Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr, revealed that his fellow castmates had undergone an intensive 17-week band boot camp in preparation for the film. He is also set to be joined by Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison).

Speaking with the New York Times, the real-life Starr revealed that he previously sat down with Mendes to go over the four films’ scripts. Highlighting that while the director had employed an excellent screenwriter, the original...

Cillian Murphy’s Underrated 61% Rotten Tomatoes Drama Lands a Free Streaming Home
Image
When the name Cillian Murphy pops up, what immediately springs to mind is his widely celebrated performance as Tommy Shelby in the BBC period drama series Peaky Blinders. But long before that career-defining role and his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer, Murphy anchored one of the most emotionally powerful films of his career, and now, that forgotten gem is finding new life on Tubi. For younger fans of Murphy's or anyone looking for something that perhaps flew under the radar, Broken is a must-stream.

Set in a seemingly quiet North London cul-de-sac, Broken follows eleven-year-old Skunk Cunningham (played by newcomer Eloise Laurence in a breakout role), a diabetic girl whose innocence slowly gives way as the dark realities of adulthood confront her all too abruptly. Her coming-of-age is anything but gentle. A single act of violence sets off a chain reaction of heartbreak, trauma, and hard truths. The story weaves together...

Jake Gyllenhaal's 20-Year-Old War Movie From James Bond Director Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
Before The Hurt Locker made stars out of its leading men, Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner, Jarhead saw two Hollywood bona fides in Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx in a riveting war drama of their own. Soon, folks can give the under-celebrated movie a watch when it's streaming on Paramount+.

Released in 2005, Jarhead not only paired the two in-demand actors fresh off Jamie Foxx's Oscar-winning performance in Ray and Jake Gyllenhaal's blockbuster turn in The Day After Tomorrow, but put them under the direction of Sam Mendes. Mendes, who would go on to direct the seminal James Bond film seven years later in Skyfall, exercises his chops in Jarhead, delivering a gritty deviation from his greatest preceding, Oscar-winning success, American Beauty. The collective results are an atmospheric, harrowing look into the psyche of Gulf War-Era soldiers, absolutely worth shooting up to the top of everyone's What to Stream in July charts and watch-lists.

Former James Bond costume designer doubts whether the spy franchise can be rebooted
Former James Bond costume designer Jany Temime has questioned whether it will be possible to reboot the spy franchise. The designer worked with Sam Mendes on the 007 movies Skyfall and Spectre and doubts how the character can be modernised as the franchise enters a new era without Daniel Craig as she pointed out the difficulties that the 1917 filmmaker had adapting the series to the times a decade ago.Temime, 77, told Deadline: "He tried his best with a lot of psychology, talent and his incredible quality as a director... but we are 10 years later."I'm a James Bond fan but how are you going to have a guy killing somebody, making love to a woman and then drinking a Martini to forget, and then have those girls who know that they are going to die, because the Bond girls always die... I'm really wondering how you can adapt that formula...

4 of a Kind: ‘The Beatles- A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ and What We Know About The Tetralogy So Far
Image
A Quadruple Feature On February 20, 2024, Sony Pictures released the news that they were undertaking what may very well be revolutionary in the world of cinema in this, the Information Age. Sir Sam Mendes Cbe made his name in the theatre originally, with a signature darker aesthetic on beloved classic musicals with his 1993 revival of 'Cabaret', 1994 revival of 'Oliver!', and 2003 revival of 'Gypsy'. It was the former two productions that first intrigued Steven Spielberg with Mendes, and why Spielberg- whose company DreamWorks had bought Alan Ball’s script for 'American Beauty'- hired Sam Mendes to direct the film, winning Mendes the Best Directing Oscar for this, his film debut, springboarding a career of consistently brilliant films. It’s this kind of record that has apparently imbued Sony with the confidence to back this historic project. The Sony press release reads as follows: “As conceived by Mendes,...

James Bond Franchise Vet Raises Big Concerns About Rebooting 007 in 2025
Image
Former James Bondcostume designer Jany Temime explains one of the biggest hurdles in bringing a new film to life.

Speaking to Deadline, Temime discussed the past difficulties that director Sam Mendes had with adapting the classic bond formula for a modern audience in 2012's Skyfall and 2015's Spectre, which she described as "two beautiful James Bonds, two amazing gems." Temime stated that Mendes "tried his best with a lot of psychology, talent and his incredible quality as a director… but we are 10 years later."

"I’m a James Bond fan," Temime continued, "but how are you going to have a guy killing somebody, making love to a woman and then drinking a Martini to forget, and then have those girls who know that they are going to die, because the Bond girls always die… I’m really wondering how you can adapt that formula to 2025."

‘Skyfall’ & ‘Spectre’ Costume Designer Opines On Challenges Of Upcoming James Bond Movie
Image
Former James Bond costume designer Jany Temime has questioned whether it will be possible to successfully reboot the 70-year-old spy thriller franchise for the current age.

Temime worked on Sam Mendes’ 2012 and 2015 movies Skyfall and Spectre but was not involved in Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time To Die, the last film in the franchise to date, which came out in 2021 with Daniel Craig’s Bond perishing in a barrage of missiles.

“We made two beautiful James Bonds, two amazing gems,” said Temime, describing the coming together of Mendes, Craig and producer Barbara Broccoli as the “Golden Trio”.

She said adapting Bond to the times had already been a challenge for Mendes on Skyfall and Spectre a decade ago.

“He tried his best with a lot of psychology, talent and his incredible quality as a director… but we are 10 years later,” said Temime.

“I’m a James Bond fan but...

Henry Golding Explains Why James Bond Role Is “Every Actor’s Kind Of Nightmare”
Image
As the search for the next James Bond reaches the final stretch, Henry Golding shared his thoughts on the seemingly coveted role.

The British actor recently explained why the 007 lead character is “every actor’s kind of nightmare” following news that Denis Villeneuve will helm the next installment in the 60-year franchise.

“But at the same time, [you’re] also wanting to kind of add something new to a franchise,” he told People. “Why can’t they bring out more agents or more 00’s? I think that would be so much more fun, because there just isn’t the restraints and the expectation.”

Golding added, “Maybe I’m just a p***y. I don’t know. But I think I would love it so much more if there wasn’t that overhanging cultural pressure.”

Daniel Craig played the iconic role in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die...

The Name’s Villeneuve. Denis Villeneuve. But Is He the Right Director for 007?
Image
Steven Spielberg once applied for the job — and didn’t get it. Same with Christopher Nolan. And Quentin Tarantino. And Peter Jackson.

Over the decades, James Bond has left behind a smoldering trail of blown-up villain lairs and wrecked Aston Martins — but also a hefty pile of heartbroken A-list directors. Ever since Terence Young shot the first 007 feature, 1962’s Dr. No, the franchise has been one of cinema’s most coveted behind-the-camera gigs. Alfonso Cuarón, Joe Wright, Matthew Vaughn, Guy Ritchie — at one time or another, they all dreamed of directing a Bond movie. And they all, for one reason or another, never got the chance.

All of which is to say: congratulations, Denis Villeneuve! You’ve just landed the hardest-to-get directing job in Hollywood. The 58-year-old French-Canadian auteur will be helming the 26th Bond film — the first since longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson sold the...

Denis Villeneuve, Director of the ‘Dune’ Films, Has the Chance to Bring the James Bond Series a Quality It Has Lost: Danger
Image
With one noteworthy exception (which didn’t work out too well in my opinion), no movie in the James Bond series has ever been directed by a marquee-name, rock-star filmmaker. And when you think about it, that’s quite a startling statement. Because…why not? Quentin Tarantino? Christopher Nolan? Who on earth would want to see a Bond film directed by one of those losers?

The directors of the Bond films have mostly been veteran craftsmen (like Terence Young or Guy Hamilton), or journeymen (like John Glen), and a few have had a prestige aura (like Michael Apted or Lee Tamahori). But it was only when Sam Mendes was tapped to direct “Skyfall” that one felt the series was suddenly aiming higher than it had been. I was excited to see a filmmaker as gifted as Mendes take the reins, but suffice to say: While much of the world loves “Skyfall,...
