A strong brutal first act leads to an absurd and inexplicable rest of movie

The first act here is very realistic and effective in portraying bullying that the protagonist goes through everyday. It really brings to light what bullying is and how dangerous it is. However, as we approach the 2nd and 3rd act everything becomes so surreal and you find it difficult to empathise or sympathise with the protagonist. Some scenes are so ridiculous they made me cringe and laugh out loud. What could have been an effective tale about bullying and it consequences turned into a farce and quite embarrasing.
