a Quiet and Elegant view of the end

I might rate it after I watched all the episodes but as a fan of this book, I love how the series captures the heart of the book...

E01: Wheel of Fire This is the beginning of the Georgia Flu Pandemic. It might sound scary considering the ongoing pandemic but the flu in this series is much dangerous and quicker so you will go past that. The strange thing I feel watching this pilot is there is a warm sensation watching Kirsten and Jeevan interact with each other even in the middle of cold snow. We are introduced more with Jeevan and Kirsten while in the book they only meet for a while, and I love how it turns out. Also, that plane scene is so subtle.

    Covid19 2019 vibes

Amazing cinematography with even more stunning background music.

Loved the theme and as the review above me said you actually feel trapped like you're in the same situation our cast are!

Amazing they made this so boring

I am absolutely amazed that someone could take the end of the world and a massive pandemic and make it so incredibly boring. In large part this is because the protagonist is so flat and boring himself. There is no reason to like this guy or find him interesting. He's not smart or funny and doesn't have any apparent talents or reason at all to be the main character in a story. At the very most he should be some sort of quirky side character. But instead we get to see him stare blankly off into space, stare blankly at other characters, and then go back to staring blankly off into space. Why? I don't know and I don't think the director or actor knew either. He's certainly not thinking deep thoughts.

The only reason it even gets two stars is the child actor does a good job. That's it. She's the only thing this whole episode has going for it. It'll put you to sleep.

    Dialogue. Dialogue, please

The story is interesting. The cinematography, delightful. Even the music is great. But the dialogue was written by a sleepy, detached person. The first scene alone was as beautiful in it's imagery as it was awful in the script...

    • Trivia
This episode's title, "Wheel of Fire," is drawn from King Lear, Act 4, scene 7: "You do me wrong to take me out o' the grave: / Thou art a soul in bliss; but I am bound / Upon a wheel of fire, that mine own tears / Do scald like moulten lead." Toward the start of this episode there is a production of King Lear starring Arthur Leander (Gael García Bernal).
    • Goofs
When Jeevan and Kirsten arrive to the apartment building where Jeevan's brother Frank lives, The security guard calls Frank apartment stating "I've got a Jeevan down here..", while Jeevan never stated his name.
    • Quotes

Young Kirsten: Do you think Arthur's dead?

Jeevan Chaudhary: If he is, he was doing what he most loved in the world when he died, so... that's cool, right?

Young Kirsten: Acting is what I love most in the world, too.
