The Cult of the Family (2019)
About the Melbourne-based cult The Family, which was led by the charming and dangerous Anne Hamilton-Byrne: a yoga teacher who claimed to be Jesus Christ reincarnated. Instead of serving wine and bread, Hamilton-Byrne fed LSD to her disciples - adopted children raised as her own throughout the 60s and 70s. She dressed them in identical clothes and haircuts; they resembled the pipsqueaks from "Village of the Damned".

    Totally messy procuction

There is absolutely no way you'll be able to understand how such a gripping story is made to be this mess! Why don't they tell the story in chronological order?? This story is so disjointed that it is even impossible to feel empathy towards the horrible things this cult did to people.

    The Cult of the Family

After watching this all I can say is karma was served hellfire hot. I will be brief, while I had heard of the cult leader mentioned in this docu-series. I had never before heard said leader speak. While interviews with the survivors of this cult are heartbreaking. The leader of this pack was fascinating to listen to. The pure psychopathic way that it spewed its rhetoric was absolutely amazing. I have seen crazy believers of religion but this one took breath away. It never faltered to give a calm, consistent, concise, conversation. This program is truly an enlightening few hours. Watching an actual psychopath at work, and while I hate to give away an ending. Hearing how that despot of greed, and manipulation met it's end really did put a smile on my face. The survivors deserved better and I wish them all the best. In the end though karma in this reviewers opinion definitely came around in a magnificent end.

I don't get the hate for this - I was riveted

I would strongly recommend giving this one a go and forming your own opinion. Contrary to popular opinion, I found it to be fascinating, tragic and heartfelt and I was gripped by it.

I'm baffled by so many bad reviews on here. This was far superior to other similar docos that are out there. Trust me. I've seen some stinkers.

I mean, it's not often a story like this comes along, particularly outside of America or Europe. The damage these sociopaths did to these kids is heartbreaking, and unbelievable that they got away with it for so long.

This seems pretty ripe for a movie I would say. Give it a chance for sure.

Not the most efficient but still informative

Stumbled upon this documentary without any prior knowledge. They filmmaker efforts to show the traumatic experience of the victims and the overall fall out of this horrible crime.

    Extremely disjointed narrative

Tried watching and couldn't make it through the first episode. I'm not Australian, and maybe that's part of the issue. This series presumed their audience knew of the case and the details. I knew nothing about it before watching (and still don't after) and the first episode felt like it should have been in the middle of a season. I couldn't follow the timeline or keep track of who was who.
