The majority of the bad reviews are from people who either haven't finished the first episode, or didn't go further than the first. Do yourself a favor, think for yourself, and give things a chance before you listen to the negativity. No, it's not exactly like the books about a younger Nancy Drew. And the generation that the show was actually produced for probably has no idea the books exist, so is that really such a huge deal? The show isn't the best on TV, but the story line does pick up if you give it more than 5 minutes before you make a judgement.
Save your time. Nothing about this show is original or interesting. The lead actress and cast in general is forgettable and there is nothing making me feel anything towards any of the characters. The show overall is as bland as unseasoned chicken, from the acting to the writing to beyond.

As you can see, most all of the negative reviews here are from people who've read the Nancy Drew books. As someone who didn't read the books, I came into it with few expectations. Probably Nancy Drew never had sex in the books, and the writers quickly make it clear that 21st century Nancy Drew is not a prude. I don't see much else that is especially edgy, and I'm pretty sure that's what's bothering the older fans. But the show has so far been very good, and is first and foremost a mystery/detective show. There are mild supernatural elements, which I think are really well done. The show doesn't have any political agenda that I can see. So if you take reviews seriously, and are turned off by the number of bad reviews, I'd recommend you give it a try.
As a tv show I absolutely loved this show but as a Nancy drew fan this I'm very disappointed in this tv show. How they decided to do this. I wish they would have just made a new tv show instead of taking something so wonderful just using the names and changing everything other thing about it. With so much source material from the original books it was sad to see it ditched for more supernatural things. It almost felt like they changed every aspect of the books from and that was disheartening.. I wish Hollywood would leave ND alone if they can't do right by the books and actually follow them at least a little!
I love how people rate things a month in and call that it. So, we saw this wasn't like the books. Neither was the new Sabrina and Riverdale. I've noticed that CW aims for a different kind of crowd. They aim for the young adult generation and keep up with the times. Equality is something that tends to a touchy subject, but not showing it is what made the governing generation we have today. Do we want to stay blissful and ignorant like those in the 50s or do we want a world where we don't shoot based on race or judge based on what we do behind closed doors.
What I love about this Nancy Drew (and CW) is the progressive attitude of the younger generation. If you want to stay in the stone age, don't watch their stuff.
The new creep factor was a major bonus. Sure, the relationships area bit soap-opera, but my favorite thing about Nancy Drew (old & new) was the mystery. Nothing is ever as it seems.
My only issue is how season 4 states it takes place one year after her mom's death when the mom has been dead since before the show started. That makes for a very busy year... in relationships and ghosts...
