Story is interesting but could have been paced a little bit faster that I can't wait for the final episode. The female lead calls her herself a journalist? What a big joke! Oh yes, she will do anything to get her story and a jnkie turned "serious journalist". How despicable the ways she uses in getting her information. The most ridiculous is a cop giving his computer password to his girlfriend. LOL! The lead actress is a pretty face but that's it, one of the most boring acting I have watched.
Not one single character is right in the head, if someone else would try to portray French people like this serial does, French would feel extremely offended. Everyone has 'blesurres' secretes, sad as fk, dark as fk, but important as French cinematography is doing lately ruining the legacy of Jean Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Jean Reno, French ppl who actually knew how to act. I didn't rated this yet, being at just second episode, but maaan do they try my nerves with the superior attitude with no substrate.
Content is spooky but well-paced. Original, which is very hard to find these days. Solid characters with excellent pacing and camera, sound, etc. French shows seen less obsessive than American about the obsessive politics of the day. Refreshing. Reminds me a bit of Jordskott (which I loved) using a investigative appeoach to the paranormal.
There is much to be commanded in this very European series: quality acting and credible characters, a restrained but evocative take on serial murders, elegant shots of city life, a slow and competent build of fantastic ambience, or the juxtaposition of social classes (for which French and Belgian cinema are rightly celebrated). Unfortunately, while it starts pretty strong, around halfway through everything goes pear-shaped: with some pretty laughable and gratuitous depiction of the 'anarchist underground', or a lot of slow and increasingly self-involved dialogues, failing to either bring density to the characters or to advance the plot. The finale is both entirely predictable and yet barely coherent, driven by a whole gamut of coincidences, and a disappointing villain. All in all the sleek production and minimalistic treatment of the first half promised much, which the second half very much failed to deliver. As with many recent series, a shorter format would have probably helped tighten the script.
I don't speak French, but I can understand a lot of it as my wife is from France and I spent some time there. This show is very dark and the further along you go the darker it gets. The story itself is about a French city where people keep getting what looks to be spontaneous combustion occurring to them. The story surrounds a man with clear mental trauma, in fact I would say most of the characters have been through mental trauma including the protagonists.
I will give this film a 6/10 as it holds some intrigue with a major mystery basically being a whodunnit style of film. It does hold some entertainment value so give it a whirl if you can handle mature, dark entertainment.
