The Maid

In 2020's "The Maid" we are introduced to a young maid that is being haunted by a spirit in her new workplace. She keeps seeing this spirit in form of another maid which is mostly shown through cheap jump scares and small cuts of her running around or just standing in the corner. There's also an intro sequence with a monkey doll that absolutely made no sense and therefore was completely unnecessary. The overall effects looked decent and the acting was fine but the movie borrows lots of scenes from other movies and therefore is unable to tell an original story on its own without relying on generic sequences. It is pretty clear that something happened to this other maid who is now is spirit and our protagonist is starting to uncover the truth. This is the premise that has been done before by multiple movies and this flick doesn't add anything remarkable. Towards the end the movie shifts and I think that is the strongest aspect the movie has. The ending is rather large scaled compared to the rest and almost goes a little over the top which I genuinely liked. The whole movie is divided into three nameless chapters but only one of them is really enjoyable. Overall I think it was an average flick with not much to show but definitely able to pass some time. The film is divided into three chapters. Every chapter has its own revelation by the end of each chapter. Though the plot is predictable and quite cliche, the execution is really good. From character introduction to character development/build up until revelation.

I'm not sure why this film is really good. If it's because it's a Netflix original film or it's from Thailand. Thailand's cinema is really improving a lot especially in horror genre, they're next to South Korea & Japan who's really good in horror films.

Overall, movie is way beyond good. Entertaining to watch from beginning til the end.

Exceptionally made horror movie...Never thought Thai industry produces this much good movie...Story, screenplay and acting...You name it.....One of the best horror in recent times..

Feel it would be bad ending when watch the first 30 mins. But it wasn't the way I expected, quite unusual indeed.

This is an alright supernatural horror movie that I have watched. The story is standard with a new maid noticing odd occurrences in the mansion she works at. It has your usual supernatural cliches you see in any movie and use cheap jump scares throughout. The mystery over the ghost maid is decently built up, and the reveal is pretty interesting. Unfortunately, they mostly use her for cheap jump scares and don't have a strong build-up towards her. But there are a couple of moments that have decent tension to it, and the music is pretty good on building up the atmosphere towards the movie. Later on, the movie becomes a slasher movie, which I won't spoiler on why it turns into a different genre, but it's executed decent on how it presented. Also, the movie is told in chapters, which is odd because the text just came out of nowhere and feels unnecessary. The characters themselves are fine, but aren't that big or interesting.

The Maid is an alright supernatural slasher movie that isn't anything big or interesting to remember about.
