The second, yet highly decent TV special of One Piece.

On a pirate ship lead by Pirate Zap. One of the crew members, Bonnie and Max are tired of being part of this worthless crew. And plan to escape for a better living style. Unfortunately, they have no money on them to make it happen. Three child hostages over heard the duo's plan. And Amanda(the eldest hostage) made a deal with Bonnie & Max, to slip a fortune that was left by her treasure hunting father. They were interested in this treasure, so they agreed to guide the 3 kids to the whereabouts of the treasure. The 5 of them barely escaped from Zap's ship. But managed to make it to a deserted island, which according to Amanda is where her dad hid the treasure.

Sometime later the Straw Hat Pirates landed their ship at the same exact deserted island. Where they met with the 5 run aways, who are all pretending to be a family on a survival vacation. Unfortunately Zap and Bayan(the other pirate group that Zap works for) located the run aways and kidnapped Amanda. As Bayan is seeking to find the treasure that Amanda knows about. Luffy and his friends will now need to rescue Amanda and defeat Zap and Bayan. But it won't be easy with Bayan's choir crew. A singing crew that can control whoever their target is.

This one is good, but not as great as the first one. Bonnie & Max were interesting characters, it had some humor, and a little bit of action. But the story just feels like watching a two filler episodes. Course every series gets it's least and great TV specials.

    THE 2ND TV SPECIAL

"One Piece: Open Upon the Great Sea! A Father's Huge, Huge Dream" is a lesser-known One Piece TV special that, while entertaining, doesn't quite match the impact of the main series or even other One Piece films.

The special presents an emotional father-son story, which adds a refreshing layer to the usual action-packed pirate adventures. The relationship between Luffy and the young boy, Akizu, is heartwarming, as Luffy serves as an inspiring figure pushing the child to chase his dreams. This aligns well with One Piece's core themes of freedom, adventure, and chasing one's destiny.

The animation is decent for a TV special, capturing the classic One Piece art style with vibrant colors and expressive character designs. Additionally, the special keeps the Straw Hat crew's charm intact, providing humorous and heartfelt moments throughout.

But despite its emotional core, the story itself is fairly simple and lacks the depth or tension of a full-length One Piece film. The villain is forgettable, serving more as a plot device than a real threat. Additionally, because it's a self-contained special, there's no real consequence or lasting impact, making it feel more like a side quest than a significant adventure.

Another downside is that the pacing can feel rushed, as the special tries to balance emotional storytelling with action in a short runtime. This sometimes makes character moments feel underdeveloped compared to the main series.

Final Verdict "Open Upon the Great Sea! A Father's Huge, Huge Dream" is a decent but ultimately forgettable One Piece special. It delivers emotional moments and classic One Piece fun but lacks the depth and excitement of the series' best arcs or movies.

Rating: 7/10 - Enjoyable for hardcore fans but not essential viewing.
