The Angel

I saw this at the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan and it was probably my favorite short of the festival.

This short was awesome. An old woman lays dying in an eerie hospital holding onto her granddaughter's hand, believing her granddaughter is the one person who can keep her alive. There was some very cool action in the film, and the one legged star in the film was one legged in real life, so it was even more impressive.

The director Paul Hough was at the festival and he was a really nice guy and had some great stories to tell about the making of the film and he gave me some great tips about what to do in the film business after graduation. I can't wait to see more of his work.

I really hope to see this film again. It would be cool if it showed up on the internet in the future. Look out for this one.

I saw this short at the Denver film festival just this week. I thought it a very good piece of film work. I particularly enjoyed the cinematography. The director did an excellent job shooting this interesting little gem. Someone else described this as part J-horror and part "The Matrix", and I think that is quite accurate. The first couple of minutes are a creepy, eerie, atmospheric Asian horror film before it breaks into all-out action. There is a "surprise" twist at the end, which might catch some off guard. I knew where it was going, but that didn't diminish the impact at all.

The message is clear: don't judge a book by its cover.

We had a chance to talk with the director who was very humble and quite nice. I wish him luck in the future because he has certainly showed some promise.

This is a spectacular short film I saw at Fantasia last week. It packs so much into in such a short time that I was completely floored. First, it starts off like a Japanese horror film. Then becomes the matrix, but has a wicked twist. The actor was there at the screening. He only has one leg and talked about filming with wires and filming all the stunts. I was most fascinated to hear how they shot some of it with the actors acting in slow motion, with the intention of speeding it up in editing. The actor said he couldn't wait to work with the director again, and I can't wait for that to happen either. I know this won the audience award at the festival and think it was really well deserved. Probably one of the most effective short films I've ever seen (and have seen a lot.) The lead girl was also incredible, and overall it was a really, really well made short film.
