Cré na Cille

Cre na Cille by Mairtin O Cadhain is one of the best Irish languages books ever written. This film does the book justice. The story of this film is mostly underground, in graveyard soil. When the main character (Caitriona Phaidin) dies she meet some of her old neighbours who are already dead and buried. Over the years other neighbours and relatives join them. They gossip and discuss the lives of the living. Caitriona is especially interested in her sister, and her family.

I cant understand why this movie has a 15 rating. The swearing is the typical traditional Irish swearing, no English f-words etc.and people are dying of natural causes.The little violence in it is humorous.

The wonderful dialogue is in rich Connemara Irish (with English subtitles). All the actors have fluent Connemara Irish accents. Rolls off their tongues, easy on the ear. Irish rural living (1940s) are realistically portrayed in a very humorous way.

I loved the photography (I'd nominate it for an Oscar) especially the underground graveyard scenes,difficult to imagine how they would've worked these scenes until actually seen.

Id recommend this film to anybody- not just Irish speaking or Irish people even.

Unexpected twist at the end.
