Les ailes pourpres - Le mystère des flamants

Watch: First Trailer For Disneynature’s Bears
Disneynature brings us a family-friendly version of Werner Herzog‘s harrowing Grizzly Man and we’ve got the first trailer today. It is the seventh film from the Disneynature label, following Chimpanzee, Earth, The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos, Oceans, African Cats and Pollen, and this one is lined up to make its debut on Earth Day of 2014, which is exactly Tuesday April 22nd. Meanwhile, Yahoo has the actual release date set for April 18th, 2014, which would make more sense, being a Friday and all. Co-directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, the film gives us a very intimate look inside the life of...

The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos - Blu-ray Review
For years the Disney nature films and documentaries provided the introduction for many people to the strange and beautiful unfamiliar inhabitants and locations of our Earth. It is with great pleasure that we find Disneynature group has organized to once more bring these types of viewing experiences to theaters and home settings. The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos is glorious and true, and in a time when we all need to be thinking globally about our fellow creatures, a splendid introduction to the lives of some amazing citizens of the bird world. In Tanzania, Lake Natron is both ancient and current home and breeding grounds to a million plus crimson-winged pink flamingos. In the past few years...

Blu-Ray Review: Disney Nature’s ‘Oceans,’ ‘The Crimson Wing’
Chicago – Nature films used to be much more common in the days before basic cable. Believe it or not young ones, there was a time before the interwebs and Discover Health when you couldn’t see nature at work outside of museums or a trip to the Antarctic. Rebooting the genre has been a remarkably profitable endeavor for Disney Nature as 2009’s “Earth” made $107 million worldwide and 2010’s “Oceans,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD followed with $68 million.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0

Money aside, are movies like “Oceans,” and “The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos,” which was released on the home market on the same day as its theatrical companion, worth your time? Yes and no. There is something marvelous about seeing footage that looks like CGI-created special effects even though it is purely a product of mother nature and Pierce Brosnan has a soothing narrative voice but one wishes “Oceans...

Disney's 'Oceans' and 'The Crimson Wing' Are Naturally Spectacular
If you think that the BBC is unmatched in its output of natural history documentaries, think again. In the last couple of years a new heavy hitter has arrived on the scene and it has had plenty of practice at pleasing audiences: Walt Disney. On Earth Day last year the Disneynature branch of the company released its first film: the epic-themed Earth. This year the studio followed up with Oceans and, in some overseas territories, The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos. Both have recently been committed to Blu-ray and they look absolutely stunning.

Oceans is exactly what the title suggests: an expansive documentary on ocean life that also touches on the relationship between humanity and the sea. Directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud (Winged Migration) Oceans has a narrative that is broad and covers a lot of geographical territory in its feature-length running time. Hence, it doesn’t...
