Know the Different Versions of this Film

In some of the research I have done on this film, Naissance du cinéma (1950), is also known as, the Birth of Cinema (1946) and the History of the Motion Picture Camera (1955). In all three cases, the credits say, "From the Film Images Collection", "A. F. Films Presents", or "Produced by Les Films du Compas and Roger Leenhardt". I only found 22 minutes of the English version of Leenhardt's, the History of the Motion Picture Camera (1955), on YouTube, but I did find the full 40 minutes of the French version of Leenhardt's, Naissance du cinéma (1950), on YouTube. I do believe, that the correct year for the release of this film is 1946, because the French translation says the 50th anniversary of the birth of motion pictures. The 1950 and 1955 dates probably indicate re-releases in other countries. A whole section about the use of animation, which played a part towards the invention of film, is cut from the English version, the History of the Motion Picture Camera (1955). That aspect and a couple other trimmings of certain sections of the film, explain the 40 and 22 minutes differences, in the two distinct versions. In either case, the information and proximity to the source material (only 50 years), allows for a certain trust, with Leenhardt's facts.

    7.1 (C MyGrade) = 7 IMDB.
