This is the first film in which Andrey Chadov and his younger brother Aleksey Chadov appear together on the screen. Having previously directed Andrey in Russkoe (2004), director Aleksandr Veledinskiy chose to work with him again, casting him in the central role of Kir. At Andrey's suggestion, he then cast Aleksey in a supporting role as a priest.
