out of the gate and running...

Three guys, no money, never made a feature length movie before got together and said, "why not"? They pulled a cast and crew together, filmed, edited, and produced, it all on their own, and they did it! That in itself is an amazing feat and is worth noting. They created a believable universe for their characters and an interesting storyline with a nice enough of a twist on reality to keep you interested and guessing, used more CG effects than you'll see in most low-budget, let alone no-budget movies, and added an all-original soundtrack to boot. The lighting was a bit flat in parts, and a few of the secondary characters could have been a bit more believable, but that doesn't detract from the bizarre storyline. It's amazing what they pulled off overall!

What is going on with Generation X?

I liked this film quite a bit. This is a film that can be interpreted several different ways, and you will want to talk about it after the movie is over. The filmmakers lead the viewer along little by little, giving out small doses of information, that help bring light to what is going on with Kirk, the main character. Is Kirk just a slacker with a wild imagination, or is he a part of a much larger conspiracy? The filmmakers leave that up to the viewer to decide, and that is what makes this film special. The film has elements of THE STEPFORD WIVES with a dash of JACOB'S LADDER. If you liked either of those two movies, I think you will definitely enjoy this film. I was impressed with the lighting, sound, original music, and the healthy portions of CG effects. The acting, for the most part, was quite good. David Wilmington (Kirk) was very believable in the lead role. I imagine with a larger budget this creative team could come up with a top-notch film. If you like movies that spell everything out, this may confuse or irritate you. But, if you like a film that makes you think, and sticks with you, this movie is a must see.

    • Trivia
Almost every name in "X-Gen" has some connection - obvious or obscure - to figures or events from Generation X. Example: Kirk's favorite beer, "Eddie's Black Circle", is derived from the title of a Pearl Jam song. The etymology or literary use of other names gives hints about character and/or plot (the grunge band "Coupland", Prof. and Zoe Mehta, Lotus Pharmaceuticals, Tobi, the boy band "Teen Spirit," etc.).

Kirk: Now if you'll excuse me, I'm vomit in your bushes.

[said to Tobi by a drunk Kirk, and was unfortunately cut from the film]
