Blessy is a breath of fresh air

'Palunku' means crystal. The life of Monichan, the farmer in a picturesque mountainous village in Kerala was transparent and beautiful like a crystal until he became seduced by the glamour of city life and a series of events follows that finally leaves the crystal shattered.

Like Kaazhcha and Tanmatra, Palunku also carries the stamp of Blessy's exceptional skills. His sensitive portrayal of the nuances of day to day life reminded me of Aravindan in his 'cheriya manushayrum valia lokavum' (a cartoon serial published in Mathrubhumi weekly in the sixties).

In his movies, Blessy has chosen themes that are tragic, but his main focus is on the strengths of innocence and simplicity and how 'education' that is associated with urban civilization, bureaucracy and the legal system only undermines these strengths. As such, his movies, although disturbing, are undoubtedly educative - they are able to point to some very basic facts and makes us question our values associated with urban notions of success and quality of living.

Blessy left me in awe with the way he has made the actors including a seven year old child live their roles. He is the only Malayalam director I have known who can make actors transform into their characters so completely that we tend to even forget who the actors are.

I don't want to see this movie again (it is powerful enough) – but Blessy has consistently given me something to look forward to in life – his next movie.

    Palunku -"A Must SEE"

Palunku is a great film. Blessy completed his hatrick with Palunku[1.Kazcha 2.Thanmathra 3.Palunku]. The story is about an innocent yet ambitious farmer and how the city life corrupts him.The story is so simple and many people may choose not to watch the film, i have to say those people are missing a great chance to appreciate a great film. Blessy has been able to take the movie forward in each scene even. The movie is a great example of how songs can be used to increase the pace of the narration.Mammooty has given a great performance.Jagathy was too good. The child artists, especially Niveditha did a great job.Lekshmi Sharma,Nedumudi Venu each and every one in the film has given good performances.Only flaw of the film if there is one, is the lines in the last scene " ee chithram ningal kandu kazhiyumpozhekum bharathathil kuranjathu .....", which gives an impression that the movie was about increasing attacks towards women.Ratings: Story&screenplay :5/5,Camera 4/5,Direction 5/5,Performences 5/5,Music & background score 3/5 OVERALL RATING: 4.5/5

    Below par movie !!

The main gripe I have with this movie is that you don't relate or empathize with Mammotty's character. He is loud, gullible and easily manipulated in whichever direction. One of the irritants is how he is keeps wailing all the time. Too unlike Mammotty. The ending too is abrupt as if the producers ran out of funds and wanted to finish it asap. So, there was no closure to the story. The change from of a naive villager to an urban dweller seem real quick and artificial. In one scene Mammotty struggles to understand the basics of English and a little while later his pronunciation is pretty good. A simpleton in one scene and real quickly he involves himself in shady activities. In one scene he is a loving husband & doting father and in the next little while he is involved with women of ill repute. All this is too sudden to absorb. So, eventually you don't sympathize with the Protagonist for whatever befell him. This is not one of Mammotty's better movie. If you are bored and want to kill time you can take a gander at this movie.

    Good Film

Its really a simply narrated beautiful story. Full marks to Blessy. It shows how the family is affected if the character of the person leading the family deteriorate.

The director shows us how the Monichan(Main character played by Mammooty) falls for one vice after the other, without realizing where it is leading him. All the songs of the movie is OK.

Monichan,is a farmer who was forced to leave school after his family lost their house in a landslip. Now, he lives with his wife, Susamma, and two daughters. To provide his children better education, Monichan decides to move from the village to a nearby town. When he starts interacting with new environment, he becomes ambitious and greedy.

A simple story told unusually with a amazing climax!

Simple Movie.. Great Direction BY Blesy! (his hat-trick HIT movie) Mammootty is simply perfect in this!

The story starts from a village.. (more specifically a hilly area) area where monichan and his family lives. For giving better education to his children monichan shifts to city and meets new friends and a entirely new life there. And he gets influenced by the wicked nature of Jagathy. The movies points out the wickedness of city life and gives a good message to all parents! And a climax which was totally unexpected!

Highly Recommending everyone to watch this one!

The performacne of all stars are excellent! Mammooty once again proved he is simply the best actor! The actress playing his wife has done a good job. The little ones playing monichans kids were also superb! Might get award for best child actress.

    My rating:9/10
