Watched this because I like Jessica Chastain. I also watched this because the main character is a woman and it tells her life story. What could go wrong?
Well, there are endless p*rnographic sex scenes with the main character, Jolene just being a sex toy, a sex object, something to be used, abused and abandoned. And the things is, she never really learns. She keeps getting into relationships with men over and over and either the men abandon her after having sex with her or they die and she must find a new man. She never learns to be independent or be distrusting of men, she never grows up! In her last relationship, she has a kid and her super christian husband treats her like garbage because he had thought she was a virgin and innocent but finds out she isn't because she has a tattoo...I guess? And an*lly r*pes her when he finds out she has a tattoo! Seriously?? So her child is taken away and she is abandoned by a man again. Her brilliant idea now?? She is going to be famous so that he son will see she is somebody and will want her.... I guess? I just knew once this movie was finished that it was written by a man...it just HAD to be! And I was right! This movie is written by a man and a man wrote Jolene to be an air headed sex object! Could have been a decent movie if she had learned to be more cautious of men, become independent and successful on her own (NOT by going to Hollywood to become an actress which she will be abused there too) and not need men. Disgusting movie. It's basically p*rn. Not inspiring to women at all!
