Genevive and her 11 sisters find themselves thrown into a world without color or fun, but they find an escape where they can dance all night.

This movie was very cute and totally little girl appropriate. My nieces have watched it non-stop since they've gotten it, and as a result I've seen it nearly 4 times all the way through. I can't get enough of it. The CGI images are great to watch, the humor is good, and the ballet portrayals are excellent. Although the story line has a few holes, no little girl will pick up on them, and as an adult, the movie is so charming that one hardly even notices. Just keep in mind that it is a Barbie movie, and, though cheesy at times, in my experience, this one lives up to the high standard which the other Barbie princess movies have set for it. I would recommend this to anyone who has a little girl who has always wanted to be a princess. It teaches a good lesson as well. Everyone is special and different in their own way, and everyone can make a difference.

    Barbie is so perfect.

Twelve princess sisters love to dance, play and sing. But when their father, the king, finds it inappropriate and wants his daughters to behave like princesses, he asks his cousin, the Duchess Rowena, to discipline the sisters. Its first law is to stop girls from doing everything that is not considered "princess-like", like dancing, singing and playing. On the triplets' birthday, they receive a book that belonged to their mother and discover that, by dancing in their room, a magical world opens up where they can do everything that is forbidden in the castle.

It is in an animation/family movie, scripted by Elana Lesser, Cliff Ruby and directed by Greg Richardson, Terry Klassen and it was released on September 10, 2006 with 1 hour 23 minutes.

It's a beautiful movie, both for children and adults, besides presenting very beautiful songs composed by Arnie Roth I particularly love all the old movies from the Barbie collection, they have a story that captivates you and makes you want to watch more. It also makes me feel nostalgic. I highly recommend everyone to watch it, it is a great movie to watch eating candy. I'm even going to watch it for the umpteenth time.

    Charming and well-animated

This is a nicely-done story with pretty music, lots of dancing, lots of big sister/little sister interaction (almost all of it positive), and lots of wishes granted. There are funny moments that older children and adults will enjoy, such as when King Randolph exclaims, "They're just SHOES! Aren't they?" And tender moments such as when Princess Genevieve comforts her youngest sister, Lacey, after a blunder.

The animation is perhaps not as good as Disney, but it still is very good. The facial expressions are nuanced, particularly for Genevieve, King Randolph, Duchess Rowena and her servant, Derek the cobbler, and little Princess Lacey. My only quibble on the animation is in the dance sequences where the dancing princesses become absolute carbon copies of each other without the slightest deviation -- even the three youngest copy the dance steps perfectly. I would have liked to see a little more individualism in the dancing, considering that these girls are not professional ballerinas or chorus dancers.

The resolution of the story is handled cleverly to get rid of a villainess without actually hurting her. There is some violence done to guards in the story, and the villainess's monkey is mean to other animals in the story.

My 4-year-old daughter loves this movie and has watched it repeatedly, and I have found it to be quite acceptable for her to watch.

    Good kids and adults

The graphics in this are much better than some of the others that came just before it (especially barbie diaries and fairtytopia) which made it a much better experience.

As far as the plot, it is a little slow at first but really ramps up and is rewarding if you stay for the whole thing. The magic portrayed in it was sooo cool I wish they had done a second one or just expanded on the magic world/how it works. I'd love to know if their mother hired an enchantress to set it up or something for instance.

The characters were good (especially rowena and the male lead and surprisingly the animal sidekicks were great in this movie too) but some of the side characters seem quite flat especially a few of the princesses that look like carbon copies of each other, like another reviewer said.

Dancing and music was really fun. I like that they were portrayed as a singing family.

My favorite part were the princesses teaming up on the guards and the special dancing part (no spoilers you just have to watch).

I DID think there was a huge plot hole in that Rowena could have just wished to be queen of her own kingdom instead of causing trouble (again if this doesn't make sense it's bc no spoilers you just have to watch).

Solid 7/10. I would give it an 8 if I ever watch it again.

    Cute...

When the evil Aunt Rowena moves into the castle, she forbids princesses to dance or sing forever, as she believes it is not the kind of behavior appropriate for a princess. The princesses discover a magical and secret palace to which they flee, but when Barbie learns that her aunt is plotting to rule the kingdom, she must go back to help her father, the king!

The dramas are always cute, although the graphic remains ugly, perhaps for the time not so much, clichés and nice, the scripts do not escape the commonplace, but enchant by the Barbie magic of being and the cute little children, despite being repetitive, I don't care I'm tired of watching the sequels, there are still a few to go, I find them even cuter today than a few years ago, they still entertain me...
