The series was sponsored by the Italian Olympic authority (CONI) to accompany, weekly, the events of the 1988 Summer Olympics, that were celebrated from 17 September to 2 October 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. Italy had strong hopes for that Olympiad, and ended with 14 medals, tenth place by countries.
