I think Elizabeth Rohm is from Law & Order? I only watch Criminal Intent, so I'm not familiar with any of her other work. But her accent in the Amber movie made it clear that she's not a Southerner. Her accent was such a distraction that I could barely watch the first story.
The second part, with Nichole, was much more watchable. The abductor was perfectly cast (creepy like an obscene phone caller), and the other actresses gave taut performances. I will say, though, that if the real Glen looked anything like the actor version, Sharon should have seen warning signs way before she did. Creepy.

Honestly, very sad story. Very tragic outcome for this family, and it is still so heartbreaking many years later.
But, you'd think with how serious a crime and how devastating a loss this was for the family that they'd have done a better job with the script, and the cast, and the direction of the film.
Everyone knows the accents were bad. Particularly that of Ambers Mom. Atrocious. Maybe if the accents were better, it would've improved the film. Sad they didn't honor the story better.

Wow,I cannot believe how badly this movie was done. The main actress was horrible, her accent was way over the top(I'm from the South,so I know what I'm talking about)and her acting in general was very bad.As a matter of fact, the acting by the whole cast was bad.It wasn't informative at all,I thought it would be interesting to see how the Amber Alert came into existence, but this movie was a poor vehicle for that. This movie lacked a lot of things. It lacked anyone with great acting ability, where did they get those kids from????? It lacked feeling, empathy and substance.I just didn't enjoy this movie at all.I loved the movie Adam, even though it is painfully tragic,it portrayed realistic grieving parents and showed their strong desire to help others in their situation. This movie failed on all accounts.I give this a 1 out of 5.Dont waste your time on this.
Amber's Mom: the worst acting I've ever seen. and I patronize community theater. I've lived all over the south including Texas. Unbelievable performance and less believable accents. Creepy Abductor was the best actor and I'm surprised he agreed to be in this thing. Too bad because the story deserved to be told well. Instead, it was a joke. Is this the norm for lifetime movies? I didn't think so, but it's been a long time since I watched such cheesy television. I only watched it because of the connection to real life legislation. And, I'm sure if there was such blatant disregard for the geography (Canada=Texas for gosh sakes?) there was probably such license taken with other historicity. The only thing I came away believing is that there is actually a real Amber Alert--but not because of the movie. Could that woman have actually been so stupid as to allow that guy to babysit that child? There's way more to THAT story.
I thought the acting was a bit amateurish. I am originally from Arlington, TX and the accent that Elisabeth Rohm CLAIMED to have had was way too over dramatic. You could tell that it was fake. There wasn't enough acting out of the little girl who played Amber to really comment. I thought the story told as much as it could. Especially if the killer still hasn't been found, there is only so much you can tell. I was actually wondering what else they were gonna put into this movie. I hadn't even heard about little Nichole until this movie and for her kidnapper to only get 5 years??? What kind of justice is that! He COULD have hurt her and wanted to, I for sure thought he was gonna rape her. But thanks to Amber, he didn't have time to do anything! I thought this was a very well told story of what really happened to Amber. I hope they find her killer.

- TriviaAmber was kidnapped on January 13, 1996.
- GoofsWhen the detective is telling the mom what will happen with the Amber Alert, a California Highway Patrol Officer is shown receiving a radio message that a vehicle was last seen going east on "U.S. I-95." Interstate 95 (I-95) runs north and south on the east coast of the U.S., thousands of miles away from California. U.S. 95 is in the western U.S. (a short portion is in California), but also runs north-south. Additionally, the proper term would be I-95 for Interstate 95 or U.S. 95 for a secondary road (as used later in the movie), but not both together.
