Millennium’s new take on comic book character Red Sonja has gone through a few different iterations over the years, but the reboot is finally much closer to release. After a two-year post-production period, Red Sonja is finally gearing up for a UK release.

Signature Entertainment has picked up UK and Irish rights to the action fantasy with plans to release this year. Deadline notes that the film previously sold in international markets, though no updates on international release plans as of yet.

Matilda Lutz stars as “barbarian huntress Red Sonja, who must unite a group of unlikely warriors to face off against the evil tyrant Emperor Draygan and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia.”

Is there anyone as disappointed in their adaptations as master of horror Clive Barker? Okay, part time Wizard and full-time curmudgeon Alan Moore is probably the most upset at his work being adapted but Clive is a close second. While the vampire Selene is often Underworlds main protagonist, Michael Sheens Lucian is a compelling and formidable character who is severely underrated. In the dark urban fantasy franchise, which pits vampires against werewolves, Sheen appeared in Underworld (2003) and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009). Despite their thrilling high-octane fight sequences and impressive special effects, neither movie was a hit with critics. The Vampire Diaries was an incredibly successful series on The CW. Running for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017, the series followed Elena Gilbert and the vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. The series was massively popular during its run, spawning two successful spin-offs and cementing itself as a classic entry in the teen drama genre.

The Vampire Diaries was released at just the right time, capitalizing on the success of the Twilight franchise, following the vampire romance genre. The upcoming Red Sonja reboot hasn't had the easiest of journeys to the big screen, losing multiple filmmakers - including X-Men helmer Bryan Singer - and even its main star (Thunderbolts*' Hannah John-Kamen).

Earlier this week, we caught up with action icon Rhona Mitra to discuss her role in XYZ Films' Hounds of War. She's been tapped to play an unnamed character in the new Red Sonja and we asked what she could tease about the project.

We all love a good old forbidden love story, right? Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has been re-conceptualised countless times over the years; from stylish adaptations by Aussie auteurs, traditional period dramas and with, of all things, gnomes. This is just a drop in the vast ocean of movies that have taken on the Bard’s classic tale, and for the third entry in the popular Underworld series, it was time for a flashback to some forbidden Lycan and vampire love. The first Underworld movie had a backstory that explained how vampires and werewolves came to be mortal enemies, thanks to a feud that began between Michael Sheen’s super sexy Lycan, Lucian, and Bill Nighy’s nosferatu vampire Viktor. You see, hairy Lucian had been secretly romancing the fanged bloodsucker’s daughter Sonja, played by Doomsday’s Rhona Mitra. And with that premise, you can probably guess where this threequel is going.

Michael Corvin's character in Underworld played a crucial role as the first hybrid of vampire and werewolf. Scott Speedman's absence from more recent Underworld movies has raised questions about the character's fate. While Michael's story may have ended, Scott Speedman has continued to thrive in his acting career post-Underworld.

Exclusive: Shooting is underway on Son of the Soil, a thriller from Action Xtreme out of Nigeria.

2009 is not exactly a year that horror fans remember fondly. What came out that year? Off the top of the head, not much comes up. A quick search gives us The Unborn, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and Drag Me to Hell. Depending on who you ask, these range from ok movies to Drag Me to Hell, but not exactly memorable overall. If we dig, we get better titles like The Collector, Laid to Rest, and Paranormal Activity, but their box office ranged from amazing in the case of Paranormal Activity to almost nonexistent for the others, so it was completely hit or miss, like studios didn’t know what to push and what to keep for the home video market. It may be difficult to think of a film series that is more aesthetically dated than the "Underworld" movies, and I include certain century-old silent movies in that statement. The first "Underworld" film was released in the fall of 2003, and it was infused with all the genre trappings of its era. The long black leather coats, the blue-tinted photography, the use of slow-motion, and the stoic-yet-capable badass heroes all reek of post-"Matrix" malaise, appealing only to young people who were 16 in September of 2003. What's more, the film's soundtrack featured some terrible metal tunes that old-world metalheads found to be shrill and whiny. Sorry, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and The Icarus Line.

He will next debut his highly anticipated film Ballerina, which is set to bow on June 7, 2024. The film is an action spinoff of the lucrative John Wick franchise and follows a young assassin, played by Oscar nominee Ana de Armas, who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. The film also stars Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Wick after a box office success with John Wick: Chapter 4, along with Norman Reedus and Lance Reddick.

Best known for his Underworld film series, which was released as five films starting with Underworld which bowed in 2003. When “Underworld” premiered in 2003, it was dismissed by critics, partly because its vamps, particularly Pvc-clad lead character Selene (Kate Beckinsale) hardly ever bite anyone. But the action-horror film, which costarred Scott Speedman, Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy, went on to spawn an entire franchise about the war between the Lycans and the Vampires.

If you want to watch the series in chronological order, you’d have to start with the second film, which is set in the early 15th century and doesn’t feature Selene at all.

Director Len Wiseman provides a positive update on the planned Underworld television series, confirming that there is a future for the franchise. In the past, Wiseman has hinted at a different tone and style for the TV series compared to the movies. No major announcements have been made since the project officially entered development in 2017.

The planned Underworld television series gets a positive update from director Len Wiseman after several years. The first movie in the trilogy, written by Danny McBride, was released in 2003. It focuses on Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a vampire who is known as a Death Killer and is driven by revenge for the murder of her family. With that premise, Underworld built a franchise that has led to sequels and the official announcement of a television show in 2017.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly to celebrate the first movie's 20th anniversary, Wiseman gave an update on the Underworld television series.

Director Len Wiseman has confirmed that a reboot of the Underworld franchise is still in the works. Wiseman clarified that the plans for a revival are focused on a small screen adaptation rather than a sixth sequel on the big screen. Underworld, despite mixed critical reception, has a devoted fan base and has spawned multiple sequels, making it a viable property for a reboot or TV adaptation.

Director Len Wiseman has confirmed that a reboot of the vampire versus werewolf saga, Underworld, is still being planned. Speaking with EW, Wiseman, who has directed several installments in the Underworld franchise beginning with the first outing back in 2003, was asked whether there are “any plans to bring Underworld back in any fashion?” Check out what the filmmaker had to say below:

“There is a fashion that is in the works. I can't talk about it, but there is a future to Underworld for sure.

From historically accurate costumes to expensive set designs, it takes a lot of money to shoot a believable period piece, with these films requiring an additional level of planning in order to feel true to life. That’s why it’s so rare to see non-blockbuster productions take on this challenge – especially when it comes to monster movies.

That being said, there are still some brave genre filmmakers that try and experiment with different story settings without the benefit of a super-hero movie budget, which often leads to incredibly unique horror films. That’s why we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six of the best period-piece monster movies, as creature features shouldn’t have to be limited to any particular era.

Bill Nighy is a British actor. He is best known for his roles in Love Actually (2003), the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2006-2007) and the Underworld series (2003-2009).

Bill Nighy (William Nighy) was born on December 12, 1949 (Bill Nighy: age 73) in Caterham, Surrey, England to Catherine and Alfred Nighy. He has two older siblings, a brother Martin and a sister Anna.

Nighy went to the John Fisher School and was a member of the school theatre group. He later went to the Guildford School of Acting.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, the actor described how he got into acting.

“Well I never got a bug for acting and I never made a decision that this was what I wanted to do with my life, it just sort of happened and I did it rather than have to do anything else,” he began.

Alright everyone, we’ve got all the spookies of October out of our system. Time to turn our eye to Hulu’s list of new releases for November 2022 to celebrate a new fall tradition of…hunky male dancers?

That’s right, Hulu’s biggest original title for November 2022 is Welcome to Chippendales on Nov. 22. This limited series stars Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the real life founder of the original Chippendales club of exotic male dancers. After hits like The Dropout and Pam & Tommy, Hulu likely has high hopes for this one.

The other big original series of note this month is FX’s Fleishman is in Trouble on Nov. 17. This is based on a 2019 novel of the same name and stars Jesse Eisenberg as the titular Toby Fleischman in crisis. Before that, Hulu is teaming up with ABC for some true crime docuseries like Where is Private Dulaney?...

Exclusive: Rhona Mitra (Hounds of War) has signed on for a role in Millennium Media’s comic book film Red Sonja, toplined by Matilda Lutz, with Oliver Trevena (Wire Room) departing the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Derived from the sword and sorcery comic books of the same name from Dynamite Entertainment, Red Sonja is based on the heroine created by Robert E. Howard and adapted by Roy Thomas. The character is billed as a fearsome warrior boasting a high degree of skill with a sword, though details as to the film adaptation’s plot hav been kept under wraps thus far.

Currently in production at the Bulgarian Nu Boyana Studio, with additional shoots at the Greek Nu Boyana Studio scheduled for later in the month, Red Sonja also stars Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El-Feitury and Katrina Durden.

Exclusive: Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans), Famke Janssen (X-Men) and Stefani Martin (The Last Kingdom) have been set to star in sci-fi action horror movie The Experiment, which is underway at Rebellion Studios in the UK.

Set in 2080 in a world recovering from catastrophic nuclear war, The Experiment follows an elite spec-ops team, led by Captain Ava Stone (Mitra), sent on a rescue mission into a top secret military research facility after a rogue employee takes a group of scientists hostage.

The project marks the first for action label Action Xtreme, the genre division of UK arthouse producer-distributor Sovereign Media (Triangle Of Sadness).

Chee Keong Cheung (Redcon-1) is directing. Producers are Andreas Roald, Chee Keong Cheung and Ioanna Karavela and executive producer is Derek Rogers. Script comes from Alistair Cave, Matthew Thomas Edwards and Oliver Morran (Every Last One of Them) from a story by Chee Keong Cheung.

Exclusive: Sean Astin (Stranger Things) and Craig Parker (Good Trouble) have signed on to star alongside Domenica Cameron-Scorsese in Jason Mac’s political thriller, A Social Contract — the filmmaker’s follow-up to his directorial debut A Father’s Legacy, which was released by Cinedigm last year.

In the film exploring the dynamics and social constructs of power, relationships and government, a political dinner turns deadly when a group of power-starved politicians fight for a seat of survival on a helicopter at the onset of a nuclear war. With movie theaters fully back up and running, HBO Max no longer has any major film releases to point to with its list of new releases for May 2022. That’s alright though as the streamer is leaning into the HBO side of its branding to offer up some fun TV releases.

The biggest HBO Max original this month is undoubtedly the return of Hacks on May 12. The first season of this comedy starred Jean Smart as a venerated Vegas comedy and Hannah Einbinder as her new millennial assistant. The first batch of episodes was excellent and even won an Emmy or two for its troubles and now season 2 will look to keep up the good vibes.

Premiering on May 15, is The Time Traveler’s Wife. This series adaptation of the 2003 novel (which in turn became a a 2009 movie) keeps up with two star-crossed lovers who can never quite make the timing work…...

Exclusive: The Last Ship, Strike Back and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans alum Rhona Mitra has joined the cast of action movie Hounds of War for Dean Devlin’s (Independence Day) Electric Entertainment, which is selling the film internationally.

Mitra will star with Frank Grillo and Nicky Whelan in the role of Caterina Murino. Isaac Florentine is directing and filming is underway in Malta.

The movie will follow a group of mercenaries who take on jobs that are considered impossible. After a mission goes wrong due to a shocking betrayal, only one of them is left alive to avenge his fallen brothers.

Trilight Entertainment’s Shayne Putzlocher and Jaggurnaught’s Jean Pierre Magro, Pedja Miletic and Aaron Briffa are producing. The film is also produced and co-financed by Sara Shaak of Anamorphic Media, and executive-produced by Grillo, Nika Finch and Polina Pushkareva.

Underworld star Kate Beckinsale reveals an idea she had for a crossover with fellow vampire hunter Blade, something which she would still love to do. Beckinsale's Underworld / Blade movie would have seen her character Selene team up with Marvel's Daywalker, with the pair no doubt striking fear in the unbeating hearts of vampires everywhere.

"I really wanted them to do an Underworld-Blade mashup. What a duo (Selene and Blade) would be. I would definitely do that, but I think they just wanted to reboot Blade as Blade, so they didn't go for it."

As you may have been able to tell by that clever opening, July is the month that Masters of the Universe: Revelation arrives on Netflix. This animated series from Kevin Smith continues the classic stories of He-Man and his buff friends. If nostalgia not be what ye seek, Netflix has plenty other original series this month as well. The amazingly hilarious sketch series I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson returns for season 2 on July 6. Also returning for a second season are Beastars, Never Have I Ever (both on July 15), and Outer Banks (July 30).

Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! It’s just that, outside of the library titles, there isn’t much to go off of.

Young adult horror fans (and those who are young adult at heart) will have a great time scrolling through Netflix in July 2021.

The streaming giant announced the new original movies and series coming to the service in July, as well as the library titles it will feature for the foreseeable future.

Among the biggest projects include a trilogy of “Fear Street” films from director Leigh Janiak (“Honeymoon”) and based on the teen horror franchise by R.L. Stine. The three movies will debut over consecutive weeks on Netflix, with the first dropping July 2.

The other big movie project coming to Netflix in July is “The Last Letter from Your Lover,” a time-spanning romance from novelist Jojo Moyes and filmmaker Augustine Frizzell starring Shailene Woodley and Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones.

November can be a slow month for streaming services. Amazon, however, is entering into 2020’s penultimate month with some steam.

Amazon is really beefing up its TV library in November 2020. Both Community (which arrives on Nov. 8) and Scrubs (Nov. 14) will be added to Amazon Prime this month and in the process complete the streaming trifecta: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu. That’s pretty impressive stuff for both shows. And then on the film side of things, November 1 sees the arrival of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Twilight, and the Underworld franchise. Somebody didn’t tell Amazon Spooky Season was over and bless them for it.

As for the originals, Alex Rider is the most intriguing TV series here. That is based on the British spy novel series and premieres on Nov. 13 on IMDb TV (which is available to all Prime subscribers). That will be followed by Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series on Nov.

The late MythBusters host Grant Imahara would have turned 50 years old last week. A noted robotics engineer, Imahara had dedicated his prolific career to inspire others to partake in science and art. In honor of his life and legacy, his family and friends have established The Grant Imahara Steam Foundation.

“There are many students, like my son Grant, who need the balance of the technical and the creative, and this is what Steam is all about,” said Carolyn Imahara, Grant’s mother and Foundation co-founder.
