Rose

This is a truly beautiful movie (I do not want to call short film even though it is only a little over 30 min long, it feels like and I remember it as if it were a full length feature movie). I read the little synopsis on the jacket and then remained on the edge of my seat for the whole time while watching the movie. The suspense continued the whole time because the movie is very condensed. But at the same time it was a sheer pleasure to watch: the colors, in combination with the acting, in combination with the music, ... it all fit together.

I have been thinking about the movie for a long time since.

I recommend it without reservation to anybody, regardless of what kind of films they usually like to watch.

Moody and ephemeral, this film creates a beautiful sense of moment and space. The visual narrative emparts a lovely gothic vibe without being over wrought. The locations and framing are stunning. I would recommend this movie to as many people as I possibly could and then more since I have to fill up this space. I would also recommend the other works by the Director, Hoku Uchiyama as well as his good friend and fellow film maker Waylon Bacon. It's actually really impressive how many incredibly talented people came out of their Albany Middle School cohort including Daveed Diggs as well. It's quite the creative output for a town of 20k people.
