Visitante de invierno

I saw the film Winter Visitor (Visitante de Invierno) in Pinamar Film Festival.

The film is excellent, brilliant. The last time a horror movie was release in Argentina was more than 20 years ago, but believe me: was worth the wait.

Here is a true director who knows about horror movies and knows how to tell a story.

The performances are credible, Santiago Predero delivers a complex and demanding performance and Sandra Ballesteros performs a totally different roll from anything she has done before in her career.

The script is clever and entertaining. More than 600 people jumped, screamed and remained glued to the seat from start to finish. Since the Pinamar Film Festival exist, no film had generated such amount of people, becoming the most watched film of Festival history.

I cannot wait to see it again in March.

Masterpiece. The best Argentine horror film in history. Winter Visitor is a incredibly well shot and directed film. Amazing well done script. And with a smart mix of cinematography and direction, the movie truly shines when the eerie and powerful music takes hold. The movie moved at a quick pace and had some truly creepy and tense filled moments. One thing I love about the movie is the way they use the tension and scares. They take the scenes of tension and build them up to pretty great levels. But in the big scheme of things horror related, this is a breath of fresh air. It's beautiful, chilling and entertaining. If you enjoy horror/mysteries, this will be right up your alley.

First off all, excuse my English. Its not my original language. I usually don't write reviews, but after reading some reviews here from people how said this movie was a "masterpice" and "600 people were jumping from their seats" I needed to write something. This movie is crap. I bought it for 10 pesos(around 3 dollars) in Blockbuster because I missed it in theaters and as an Argentinian and horror fan I really wanted to see it (its nowhere to be found if you want to rent it). Everything here is wrong, the acting, the scrip, the lightning. Its a shame because it had some good talents involved and they are completely wasted. The movie is boring and most of the "chilling" parts are actually laughable. The F/X are also a very big problem, because they are so terribly bad done that they take you out of the movie. I can understand this was made (like almost every movie here in Argentina) with a very limited budget, but with a little bit of imagination they could have figured out a better way to show what they wanted to show. I give this movie a 3 because at least they tried to do something different here in Argentina, commercial horror movies are very rare here.

It is the first time I write a review on IMDb. I think people write reviews here for shouting angry when they saw a bad movie or to express their satisfaction when they saw a good one. This is my case. There are other people who love movies and like to be able to post their opinions on the net. Also, of course, there are people who write just to vent their frustrations.

Winter Visitor is one of the best horror films I've seen. I don't say this because I'm from Argentina. I was skeptic: a horror movie from Argentina? What can I expect? Argentinean horror films had a very bad reputation inside Argentina: That's way no producer wanted to put money on this kind of pictures.

Not only I liked it but also exceeded my expectations.

The are many reasons and I only enumerate a few: the acting is excellent, from the smaller role to the main character, Ariel (Santiago Predero) who achieves an amazing level of credibility. The actors direction and staging are great.

Esquenazi manages to get us into this nightmare with a level of realism rare in horror films. Another excellent decision are the locations: forest, sea shore, all this help to create a distinctive atmosphere, cold and oppressive. The idea of a murderer from the past reincarnated in a person from today is original and interesting.

If you expect plot explanations in the form of speeches you will not find it in this film. If you want just blood and gust with no story, this is not for you. Leaving aside the fact that Winter Visitor is a film from Argentina, is the kind of great horror film that only appear once every three or four years.
