To paraphrase an old adage, there’s bound to be a silver lining in every cloud. Indeed, for some Caribbean island locations, the Covid-19 pandemic, despite some losses in human life, has been a blessing for their audiovisual industries. The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, two of the most generous locations in terms of film incentives, are expecting a record boom.
“The number and size of projects coming to the country have increased exponentially,” says Albert Martinez, COO of Lantica Media, which operates the Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios. “By opening up earlier than other locations, many projects gravitated to us.”
Among the first major productions to film in the Dominican Republic, and which made full use of Pinewood Dr, was “Old,” M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller starring Gael Garcia Bernal.
The Dominican Republic’s film commission projects a total foreign production spend of around $176 million by year-end, up from $35 million last year.

Much like Noa and Daniel's relationship, The Baker and The Beauty Season 1 Episode 8 and The Baker and the Beauty Season 1 Episode 9 were a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish.
I can't even begin to count how many times I picked my jaw up off the floor, which is great from a storytelling perspective, but when it comes to writing a review, it's the very reason why I'm not fond of two-hour finales.
The action is so fast-paced that it's difficult to give each moment the attention it deserves.
The one thing that stands true is that Noa and Daniel's relationship is hot-and-cold. They wanted to be together, but it was a struggle for them to admit it because they kept allowing external factors -- differing lifestyles, ex-lovers, and whether or not they matched -- to influence their decisions.
You'll recall that at the end of The Baker and the Beauty...

“Little America” launches on Apple TV Plus at a time when the immigrant experience is a hot topic in the media, but the stories the writers and producers behind the new anthology series wanted to tell were not about race, says co-creator and showrunner Lee Eisenberg.
“All of the stories are meant to be slices of life and snapshots of moments in someone’s life. These are not biopics where we’re starting with someone’s birth and ending on their deathbed,” Eisenberg tells Variety. “As much as we could, we wanted it to be rooting for these characters. You hope that they get what they want. That was the thing that we really strived for. I think the stories that we as filmmakers wanted to tell were stories that had more hope than anything.”

With its combination of catchy songs, heartwarming moments, classic characters and pure fantasy, it is surprising that it has taken 27 years for a movie to be made. Despite winning several Tony Awards and revivals, it hasn't quite reached total mainstream status yet. That may be all about to change this Christmas thanks to the big screen adaptation.
In fact, a film version has been in the pipeline for over a decade. In the early 1990s, Columbia and Jim Henson Productions were developing a version starring the likes of Robin Williams, Goldie Hawn, Cher, Danny DeVito, Steve Martin and Roseanne Barr. A few years later, Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan and Susan Sarandon were attached.
After years of failed attempts, the project appears to be in good hands, as Chicago director Rob Marshall is behind the camera,...

Chicago – The third week of the 12th Annual EU Film Festival at the Siskel Film Center is nearly upon us and we’re back to give you an idea of what to expect in the second half of arguably the best fest in the Windy City. We feature great new films from Ireland, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Belgium.

Get your calendar out and take notes.
You’re going to be busy on Saturday with a dark trio of quality films - Denmarks “Fear Me Not,...
