First of all this movie has a bad title which makes you think it is a stupid mindless comedy which it is not, it is actually based on true events. The reason I rated it 7 is because it has some truly realistic elements about it starting off with Jonathan Daniel Brown portraying the leading role, not your common type cast for a main character especially in American movies, also other cast members and events were realistic in a way that reminded me of Jessie Pinkman's friends and their Shenanigans in "Breaking Bad". However after the first hour of the movie I just kind of lost interest in the very boring and predicted turn of events and continued watching till the end while playing with my phone
.
Final note: Kenny Wormald (talking about bad names ) portraying Topher has a real star quality about him, I wouldn't be surprised seeing him star in something big in the future, maybe there's a good reason why guy's like that get to play the main characters and guy's like Jonathan Daniel Brown usually settle for the side-kick's part.

Now when I say "teenage 'Blow (2001)'" I don't mean as it's juvenile and adults won't find anything of value here, quite the opposite actually.
The movie feels very adult, plenty of swearwords and nudity and such and a typical Scorcese like voice-over (without ever feeling cheesy or unnatural) and a good story and competent acting.
Jonathan Daniel Brown is very good in the lead but my favorite performance comes from Aaron Yoo as a menacing rival of his.
The only 'bad thing' I can say is that, it could have dug deeper into the characters; the female characters are all pretty empty and most are only there for eye-candy and the movie is low budget and it shows and feels like it was shot in a couple weeks at the most.
Comparing it to 'Blow (2001)' might get your hopes a little too high I know realise, it doesn't have the feeling of a epic trials and tribulations of a drug kingpin which that had but I mean it's definitely above average when it comes to these sorts of movies.
And it most definitely entertains from start to finish with plenty of humor to go with the based on a true story.
7.5/10, a stellar recommendation.

8.25 of 10. This is a reality based version of How to Make Money Selling Drugs (2012). It also takes a different approach in the lessons embedded in the story by providing many examples of exactly what not to do. Neither are documentaries, but at the same time contain a great deal of surprising truths.
Besides learning by counter-example and having lots of amusing, stranger than fiction scenes, the film throws in the one thing that is exactly what you'd expect with young people with lots of money stuck in Idaho: lots of partying, pursuit of the beautiful, and sex. The filming and perspectives also capture, at least with the women, parts and views that rarely get done well in film or TV. There's an actual appreciation and understanding of women's bodies by the director and camera crew.
Despite the fun, sex, and young cast, the film as a whole is a well-acted tragedy with a deep impact.

This is a great stoner movie to vibe with. It's not exactly a comedy though, toward the end the story transforms into multiple dark sub plots all at once and can feel like a bit much. The beginning and middle are an amazing ride!

For a topic such as illegal drug smuggling, the producers dealt with it in a very intricate and almost educational way. It was very well put together. It of course contains the elements you would expect from such a movie. These being partying, drugs (and lots of it) and sex, but when it gets to the more serious topics at hand such as how this kind of behavior and greed can take hold and get the better of people and just how serious the consequences can be, you begin so realize that it's not just a stupid comedy and that is actually has some depth to it. Movies that are based on true events always get my attention and instantly seem to make it worth watching even more. It was nice to see Kenny Wormald play a completely different character. The last time I saw him, he was in the new Footloose. Completely different style but he pulled both off really well. All in all, Kid Cannabis kept me interested and entertained for the most part, the acting was very believable and I recommend you give a watch. It's not for everyone but I'm sure you'll find some aspect of it you like.
