    LISTEN TO THIS!

I am joining the reviewers, yes, one of the best ever episodes, largely due to the fact you have one heck of a director and writer.

Item; This mini classic likely inspired by the funny I LOVE LUCY episode all about an intercom. Since the show as filmed at Desilu, it makes sense.

Rich and his pal put together a "toy" intercom in the house -- that works. In fact, TOO well. The darn thing is connected to the Helper's house next door, Rob switches it on and hears some very unflattering comments. Big Question; Is Jerry and Millie their friends or a couple of phonies???

One of those psych-out episodes that really gets you thinking, the genius behind the show. Very relatable when it comes to personal friendships; things accidentally said that have implications A to Z.

Superior writing by Shelton Keller, writer for Sid Caesar, Danny Thomas, Dinah Shore, Bing Crosby, to name a few. Stanley Z. Cherry (with the way cool name) directed, remembered for DOBIE GILLIS.

FYI: The classic "leg crossing" scene on the couch, no doubt set up by Cherry, showing you what AAA directing is all about. Those little touches that ring bigtime.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 5 remastered CBS dvd box set. Now on blu ray for the next generation of fans.

Boy, what a great looking ashtray!

This episode is one of the very best of the series. The timing is perfect and the lines are very funny. I loved it when Sally was trying to change the subject by talking about the ashtray.

I guess I'm the odd one out here.

"All About Eavesdropping" has an exceptionally high score of 8.7 on IMDB...meaning folks love this particular episode. Also, there are currently four reviews...three gave it a 10 and one a 9. So, I am really am the odd man out, because I didn't like it at all. I thought it showed Rob and Laura in a very ugly light.

Rob and Laura are preparing to go over to Millie and Jerry's for the evening. It promises to be a nice evening...that is, until Rob discovers Freddy and Ritchie had set up some sort of communication system between the two houses. Rob can hear Millie and Jerry talking...and instead of turning off the device, he keeps listening, as does Laura. The Helpers make a few not especially mean remarks about the Petries...and Rob and Laura REALLY overreact and are considering not going to the dinner party. But they go since Buddy and Sally will be there. However, once there they are OBVIOUSLY angry and over the course of the evening, it becomes increasingly obvious they are mad at the Helpers. But they never say why and they ruin the evening for everyone. What's next?

I just thought this particular show made the Petries look like angry jerks...and nosey angry jerks to boot. I didn't enjoy watching it and it made Rob and Laura look simply awful...something that didn't impress me at all. Watchable but not a particularly nice episode that for me, went too far.

    Best Episode Ever

If you've never seen the Dick Van Dyke Show and want to see a sample of this wonderful series, this is the episode to watch. The Dick Van Dyke Show is one of the best comedy series of all time. The physical comedy of Dick Van Dyke, the one-liners by Morey Amsterdam, the sarcasm of Rose Marie, the blandness of Richard Deacon, the sweet innocence of Mary Tyler Moore, the nosiness of next-door neighbors Jerry Paris and Ann Morgan Guilbert all blended with perfect timing and great scripts to keep America laughing through some tough times for our country. Way to go, team!

10/10 On The Street Where You Live

This is my favorite episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show. The comedic writing and the comedy timing are impeccable. The charades game at Millie and Jerry's house was perfection. The unison crossing of the legs was perfect. I laughed through this whole episode. Buddy's lines were great too. Every time this episode is on...it's a MUST SEE.

Highly recommend from this fan of the show. It's the episode I always show to people who haven't watched the show before.

It also has one of the best endings in the shows history. It shows the lives between Rob and Laurie Petrie & Jerry and Millie Helper.

Watch it for your own good.

    10/10.

    • Trivia
After the party, Rob and Laura are eating cereal. The brand of the cereal is Wakey Flakeys, the same cereal that Lucy Ricardo and Paul Douglas sold in Lucy Wants a Career. That was from the show, The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour. Both the Dick Van Dyke Show and the Comedy Hour were produced by Desilu Studios.
    • Goofs
When the closeup of the intercom is first shown, there is an ashtray right next to it. There is no ashtray in the rest of the scene as Rob and Laura are listening to Jerry and Millie.
    • Quotes

Laura Petrie: I mean, after all, where would the world be today, Rob, if it weren't for experiments. We wouldn't be on the moon today!

Rob Petrie: We're not on the moon.

Laura Petrie: That's beside the point.
