Overdrive was, to say the least, a modest effort at an adaptation of Boukenger. The Zords are not as impressive as in earlier seasons, and the pyrotechnics lack the variety and logic that made previous seasons (almost) more believable. Plenty of plot twists abound in this storyline. Also unique are the variety of locations and variety of villains. Such diverse variety of either has not been seen in the series since Time Force (locations) and In Space (locations and villains).
The actors voicing the Rangers, as usual, lack the ability to pull off a convincing job of acting in a way that impresses anyone older than the intended audience of boys ages 7-12.
Without giving away too much, there is countless recycling of material in this series; as pieces of equipment, costumes, zord parts, and locations are recycled from everything from MMPR Season 2 to Turbo to In Space to Mystic Force.
It is obvious that the writer for this season was trying very hard to both appeal to nostalgic tastes to win back adult viewers who fondly remember the old show and keep it new and fresh for the children of these early era viewers. It would almost appear he was trying too hard and the show was pulling itself in too many directions. But overall, a modest effort given the intended audience.

This season does not deserve the amount of hate it got.. sure, the season may not be the BEST, it was certainly not the worst.. improvements could've been made throughout the season in episodes, but they actually put some effort and craft into this, this was not a season, that was made JUST to get revenue, it had a lot of emotions.. the characters were actually so attaching, sure the story could've been far better.. and things could've been done differently, this season has a special place in my heart, it was literally the first season i ever watched, and as kids, we didn't even focus that much on story, we just used to ENJOY, and for me this season was worth watching every second and im glad they didn't make a business oriented scientifically crafted audience attention grabbing season with no soul or emotions.. for it was a great season, and i AM A PROO FAN.
"Power Rangers Operation Overdrive" is the thirteenth installment of Power Rangers here in the US since it's debut back in 1993. While the storyline is sometimes goofy the idea remains with us that the rangers will always be around. PROO is basically a combination of Turbo, Lightspeed Rescue and Space Patrol Delta but for a kid or adult who loves or loved power rangers from the beginning it's pretty kewl. however the morphing call should have stayed as the title for the first episode instead of what it became. Hopefully the writers will remember the funniness of the story as well as the seriousness of it. oh yeah one more thing "Good Luck Rangers and May The Power Protect You."
If you thought Megaforce was bad enough, just wait 'til you see this Dumpster fire of a series. I hate every millisecond of it; please do not watch!
Even though this was considered one of the worst season, it's better than megaforce. I mean the actors were less cringeworthy. Like ninja steel I also hated the blue ranger. I mean he's annoying as heck. I mean the once a ranger crossover was awesome. But it made operation overdrive look bad. Which was okay. Considering it was one of the worst seasons. Still recommend watching.

- TriviaProducer Jackie Marchand was not fond of the finished version of "Once A Ranger", which cut out scenes that would have made the Overdrive team's decision to leave explained better and made more sympathetic. She says the aired version "didn't reflect well on the Overdrive team and made them seem like assholes".
