    My eyes!

It wasn't porygon's fault, it was pikachu! Pikachu should be the one getting banned in the anime due to giving 600 kids seizures, not porygon!

Screw you whoever made this episode!

    Good thing this episode exist

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but let me explain why it's a good thing the episode was made. Being born with a form of epilepsy (petite mal seizures) isn't easy to live with. Strobing lights don't effect me, but having random seizures triggering is completely dangerous.

Does it suck that 685 children were affected? Absolutely, but that's 685 people who were diagnosed in a safer environment. Think of the positive aspects of all the people who are now safely and properly medicated. Also, think of all of the lives that were saved. Imagine not knowing you have a seizure disorder and have one will driving. This episode potentially saved lives, not just for the people with the disorder, but others who may have been on the road.

Like I said, seizures aren't a laughing matter. It's a very serious medical condition. And since I was born with them, I definitely understand how much worse this could have been.

This episode was actually beneficial for not just pokemon but the whole world. And even porygon

Yes it sucks 685 people got sent to the hospital due to the epilepsy-inducing scenes of the episode. But this benefitted pokemon, porygon. And even the world as a whole. First Pokemon, Even if it was negative reputation. It did give pokemon recognition before the games came out in the west. Helping it be more famous longterm. Next porygon, if it wasn't for this episode. The porygon fandom would be small. As the only cool thing about this pokemon is that its the digital one. Now porygon fans have something to grasp too to defend their favourite pokemon and have perputrual relevance.

#porygondidnothingwrong. And The world. Without this episode we would know a lot less on epilepsy then we would today due to the research taken after the episode on epilepsy. And also other anime would have still used paka-paka causing potentially even more seizures then pokemon could have ever caused.

This episode is a w when you think about it.

You really shouldn't sit too close to the TV

This is it, people. This is the pokemon episode that appeared on Wikipedia's list of unusual articles because it caused seizures in Japanese children. Porygon's evolutions are the only pokemon to never appear in the anime because of this. Actually, it was Pikachu that was in the scene that caused the seizures who then went on to appear in literally every episode afterwards. Wow! I guess Porygon is the pokemon equivalent of Muhammad. If they did an episode with Porygon's evolutions, would the creators get death threats? So many people have referenced this episode, more so than any other anime episode ever made.

As for the actual episode itself, I actually really enjoyed it. It features the Pokeballs being blocked in the teleporter so the characters have to literally go inside the teleporter to fix it. Porygon is actually a really cool pokemon! I loved how it could shapeshift and turn into various weapons. Honestly, it was such a waste with its evolutions never appearing in the anime. There were a few cameos by it later but of course never an episode focusing on it. I love how Team Rocket just thank them and run away at the end. ****

    A banned episode!

This is it, fans the reason why Pokemon caused such a controversy iin the USA and around the world is due to this right here, the episode that gave over 700 people in Japan epileptic seizures cause they were sitting to gosh darn close to the boob tube. In response, Japan toned down the lighting effects of the episodes after this one.

    9/10 stars.

    • Trivia
Earned the Guinness World record for Causing the Most Convulsions (seizures) ever, after sending 685 viewers (310 boys, 375 girls) to the hospital resulting from bright and rapid flashes. As a result, the producers were forced to go back through the previous episodes and dim the lighting on them so as not to cause an incident of this magnitude again. Following the incident many Japanese Broadcasters joined to ensure this event wouldn't happen again. As a result some new guidelines were introduced: Flashing images, especially those with red, should not flicker faster than three times per second; If the image does not have red, it still should not flicker faster than five times per second; Flashing images should not be displayed for a total duration of more than two seconds; Stripes, whirls and concentric circles should not take up a large part of a TV screen. Known as the "seizure episode", this episode has been banned worldwide after airing only once in Japan.

Satoshi: [about the transfer machine error] Joy-san, just what is happening here?

Joi: What hasn't been happening? I want to know too, for example, when we transfer a Pokemon as rare as say, Kyukon, The Pokemon that arrives is switched, and the original never gets there at all! Anyway, it looks like a bug in the system is causing it.
