The lost love of Major Adams

This Wagon Train episode has the Train stopping at a grave-site where Ward Bond can visit with his lost love. Frank McGrath and Terry Wilson who go back to the Civil War with Bond and served with him when he was really a Major Adams tell Robert Horton the reason for the visit.

The story is told in multiple levels of flashback though not like the famous Humphrey Bogart classic Passage To Marseilles. Bond organized a militia company that was activated for the Civil War. Wilson was a sergeant and an old recruit Charlie Wooster who couldn't shoot worth a damn was made a cook.

Not to tell too much of the story, but Bond saves Wilson's life and gets wounded in the spine during the process. He has a long convalescence and decides not to tell the woman whom he was courting about his wound.

Virginia Grey who plays Ranie Webster the lost love of Major Adams wouldn't marry him before the war and now goes off and marries someone else thinking him dead. The husband is really killed in the war, but the romance between Grey and Adams died as well.

Ward Bond who never played romantic parts in his long movie career was at his most romantic courting Grey. As for Grey she's quite the regal beauty and you can see why Bond gets dewy eyed at the thought of her.
