The story couldn't really be simpler. An escaped convict is in the forest. MacGyver and some co-workers are on a stress relieve program out in the forest. no one knows each other, and any of them could be the killer.
What I like about this episode is how everyone (except MacGyver of course) could be the killer. We have no idea how he looks, and every character has this little feature that could mean he's not who he's supposed to be. Everyone fits the description to some degree. But throughout the episode one after one is proved to be the real thing, and that eventually only leaves us with one guy.
It's a realistic episode, MacGyvers inventions are believable, and the episode is neither to grim nor to light hearted. I just thinks it's a great mixture of suspension, drama, humour and simple MacGyver adventure. "Invisble Killer" has always been one of my favourite episodes, I give it a 9/10.

I remember watching this episode and realizing quickly into it that the premise was clearly inspired by a movie that had been released the year before. The movie was "Shoot to Kill" and was about an FBI agent tracking a hiking, camping group (being led by a guide) that contained a recently escaped criminal. The viewer did not know who the criminal was until later in the movie. Part of what made the movie interesting was trying to figure out who the criminal might be.
This episode of MacGyver was similar. You do not know who the criminal is and you find out towards the end. But as soon as the first 5 minutes went by, I knew it was going to be drawing some plot points from the movie.

- TriviaWhen the Park Ranger asks to see the men's identity cards, most of them hold them up with their fingers covering up the photos on the cards. In order to not give away the escapee to the audience, even the good guys do the same thing.
- GoofsSome of the members of the hiking party are nervously discussing how they might tell which might be the escaped convict among them yet MacGyver does not think of the obvious solution of simply checking the members' P.F. ID card photos against the faces of their bearers. (The reason he does not do so, however, is that this would have ended much of the storyline and likely provoked an immediate shooting by Fulton of the two innocent hikers, and, probably, MacGyver.)

Tony Parisio: [looking at the suspension bridge] You're not afraid of falling, are you?
Charles 'Chuck' Larabee: Oh, no. It's the sudden stop at the bottom that worries me.
