Govert Deploige had yet to become known as the teacher physical education Steve Mertens on popular Flemish sitcom W817 (1999). For this part, Steve is a gay character, he won the Cavaria Award by the Flemish LGBTQ advocacy group Cavaria, for his doing honor to the Flemish gay community. His guest role as con artist Didier on F.C. De Kampioenen, was Deploige's first of any importance.
