The author who spoke to Ali described symptoms that were consistent with 'postpartum depression with psychotic features' (hearing voices). The treatment is antidepressant plus antipsychotic medications. Xanax is an anxiolytic which might alleviate the author's stress over her feelings and the voices, but it would not treat the underlying mental health problems.
