    This is highly irregular, Jamie

Jamie vs Alex the super computer and brainchild of Lew Ayres is now in countdown mode to Doomsday, and only Jamie's bionic skills and human wit can avert a global catastrophe.

Overtly sentimental treatment pits the wits of two machines against one another, Jamie's empathy vs Alex's cold, win-at-all-costs programming. The solution is too easily telegraphed, but there's still a reasonably neat plot twist waiting in store if you're patient.

Apart from the usual cast, I glimpsed Stack Pierce as a B-52 pilot, and David Opatoshu as a cold-war Russian offical lamenting the world's imminent end.

Enough tension and action to hold the attention as Jamie overcomes each obstacle as she descends towards the core of Alex's super computer, and an eventual contest with the megalomaniacal machine. Good sets, but a little heavy on the anti-war sentiment.

    • Trivia
There are numerous homages to Stanley Kubrick films in this two parter, most obvious are 2001 : L'Odyssée de l'espace (1968) and Dr. Folamour ou : comment j'ai appris à ne plus m'en faire et à aimer la bombe (1964) (and quite possibly Les Sentiers de la gloire (1957) with the minefield scene).
    • Goofs
Sprinkler systems did not work the way they are depicted near the end of this episode. Simply turning the valve to make water flow into the system would not have immediately activated so many sprinkler heads. A sprinkler head has a plug in it which prevents water from flowing until the air in the room reaches a certain (high) temperature, around 140 degrees, which causes the plug to break or melt. Almost all the rooms showed the sprinkler heads operating well before the rooms were on fire, when the air could not have reached the critical temperature.

ALEX 7000: Jaime, you are running at 57.384 miles per hour, Jaime. this is not normal. Would you tell me about yourself, Jaime?

      Jaime Sommers: Some other time.

ALEX 7000: But you have plenty of time now. You won't get down to level 3.
