    • Trivia
On 17 March 1897, in Carson City, Nevada, Bob Fitzsimmons knocked out Gentleman Jim Corbett, Corbett was considered the legitimate World Heavyweight Champion. He had won the title from John L. Sullivan in 1892) in round 14. The entire fight was filmed by Enoch J. Rector. It was released to the public as The Corbett-Fitzsimmons Fight. Running more than 100 minutes it was the longest film ever released at the time. Using her maiden name, Nellie Verrill Mighels Davis became the first woman to report a prize fight. Prizefighting was illegal in 21 states and many cities and states tried to ban the film, but their efforts to ban fight films were mostly unsuccessful. The film no longer exist in its complete form but portions of it can still be viewed.
    • Quotes

Gentleman Jim Corbett: You're really not against boxing?

Annie Oakley: No, I'm all for it. I'd much rather see men fight with five-ounce gloves than with pistols and rifles. What the West needs is more boxing gloves and less six-shooters - more physical culture and less gun culture.
