    Good sequel

The inimitable Peter Cushing guest stars as the brother of the man who created the cybernauts in a season 4 episode. He's out for revenge against Steed and Peel. I never knew this episode existed back in the day (I had only seen the original). It's a pretty good episode, although it lacks the creepiness of the original. Perhaps the fact that it's in color has something to do with it. Cushing is both suitably villainous and charming, especially towards Mrs Peel. The actress who plays the secretary of an abducted scientist is a hoot. As usual, the series is an enjoyable time capsule of 60s British culture.

    HIGHER THAN THE ORIGINAL

This return of the killer robots is superior to the original. This time the villain is Peter Cushing, who plays the brother of the late Dr. Armstrong, creator of the Cybernauts. During the development, he kidnaps three experts in different specialties, so that together they can develop a device that will turn Emma and Steed into human robots that he will handle as he pleases. The episode surpasses its predecessor in its dynamics and has the advantage that at this stage of the series the action scenes were better elaborated than in the black and white era. Entertainment from start to finish.

    The Cybernauts are back.

Clement Armstrong's brother resurrects the Cybernauts to achieve world domination and get revenge on Steed and Mrs. Peel. Nothing original here, but a decent fast paced plot nonetheless. Peter Cushing guest stars as Beresford.

Peter Cushing again but with another creature of his.

And this time, Peter Cushing is not Dr Frankenstein but Dr Armstrong and his creature is not the deceased man brought back to life but a robot. For the rest, you can consider it as a kind of tribute to the Hammer Films movies. Anyway, many AVENGERS episodes are actually more or less inspired by Hammer Films topics or even Hollywood ones too. This is a milestone in this TV show series. You also had the cybernauts in the previous season, and you'll still have it ten years later, with Joanna Lumley and Gareth Hunt. But no cybernauts in the season in between, the season with Linda Thorson as Tara King. It's is sufficiently important to be noticed.

    Return of the Cybernauts

The brother of Dr. Armstrong resurrects the Cybernauts to murder Steed and Mrs Peel.

A fun sequel to The Cybernauts. The great Peter Cushing is excellent as the mad scientist. Good direction and a nice score from Laurie Johnson add to the atmosphere. Other than that, there's not much else of note.

    • Trivia
At the end of the episode, Steed attempts to repair Mrs. Peel's toaster, but on testing it, the toaster flies through the ceiling (somehow leaving the toast behind) and Steed remarks; "That's the first thing Britain's ever put into orbit". The episode was first shown on 30 September 1967. The UK's first satellite - Ariel 1 - had been launched on 26 April 1962. It was the first satellite from a nation other than the Soviet Union or the United states. It was followed by Ariel 2 on 27 March 1964, and Ariel 3 on 5 May 1967. Ariel 1 and 2 were assembled in the USA, whilst Ariel 3 was the first satellite designed and built in the UK. However all three were launched by the USA, as was Arial 4, on 11 December 1971, and two others. The UK became the sixth nation to launch its own satellite when it put "Prospero" into orbit, but that wasn't until 28 October 1971, so at time of Steed's statement he was quite correct.
    • Goofs
Paul Beresford asks Steed's opinion on whether a wine is "corked" by looking at it. A bon vivant like Steed would know that a wine is corked when the taste is wrong, not if cork is floating in the wine.
    • Quotes

Emma Peel: [referring to 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man] A man doesn't have to be handsome to be attractive. There's a sort of ugliness for it's own sake. And if you look closely, you'll find a sense of humour. And the eyes are kind.

John Steed: It hasn't got any eyes.
