Being a fan of the original Comic Book, I was waiting pretty impatiently for this movie. The result is not bad at all, The drama is still there (see the cemetery scene, Banner fighting his inner-beast, the flash-back). The action is really good and the animation well done.
I just wish the movie was longer. The realistic violence and the drama of the original comic book is far from the movie. Marvel probably wanted the movie to be a family feature but I still hope to get a more adult version... maybe a live movie?
The plot starts really nicely with the disapearence of Cap America during the War. I wish Red Skull would have made an appearance. The Alien story was not the best way to go but it is just an excuse to throw a twist we all were waiting for... The most dangerous ennemy was inside the group.
The characters are all interesting except from Thor (I never liked him anyway but he is just a guest as a Beer drinker lol). Cap America is lost in this new world he discovers. Nostalgia and flashback: He is the most interesting hero in this story.
Watch closely for some character's habits. -Tony Stark is still running after women and still dinking. The armor looks good. - Giant man is a smart ass and still jealous. - Nick Fury still looks like Samuel Jackson (too bad Samuel didn't play the voice). - Black Widow doesn't do much but She is still very Sexy. - Thor is useless... - Hulk/Banner is very interesting as He is very ambiguous in his motives. We never know what he truly looks for...
Well, not bad for a first one, What's next? If the live movie gets made, I'm up for a part!!!!!

I like the fact that jealous DC fans are trying their frustrated best to find flaws and bash this instant classic. It's a sure fire sign that Marvel did their job and gave us one quality animated feature.
I do agree that the movie wasn't as "complex" as the Ultimates in that it did not have the heroes intermingled with politics like the comics did. That's a good thing, however. Infusing politics is going to divide your audience because not all of them are going to agree. Quite frankly, I get tired of movies that preach politics to me and would prefer sometimes to be transported into another world that doesn't lecture to me. Most moviegoers seem to agree, as the highest grossing movies of 2005 were STAR WARS, NARNIA, HARRY POTTER, FANTASTIC FOUR, etc. All fantasy films.
Some fools are trying to complain about this masterful animation? What are they talking about? Did they want a CGI movie on par with FINAL FANTASY from a few years ago? That's very unrealistic and that movie bombed bigtime. Personally, I thought the animation was excellent. I loved the way Cap's shield seem to glimmer in almost every scene. The battle sequences were phenomenal. I watched the movie with those "factoid" bubbles activated and they mentioned some interesting items about the complexity of the animation. The characters looked great. Iron Man looked ten times better then he does in the Ultimates book. Attempted bashers of this film should move on to another item. The animation is anything but a weakness.
I thought Ultimate Avengers was near perfect and really couldn't have expected more. Keeping the "Ultimate" BS to a minimum was a SEVERE improvement in my opinion.
A very good effort all around here and I hope they don't change one thing for Avengers 2.

Ultimate Avengers is a feature length animated alternative tale of how the Avengers were formed.
Sadly the foe that brings them together is highly lackluster and ultimately faceless. Combine that with failing to make many of the Avengers even remotely likeable and you don't have the best movie.
Captain America is defrosted, Iron Man learns to play with others, Thor comes down from his high horse, Antman just annoys from start to finish and Hulk is..........destructive.
For a high profile Marvel animation this was more than a slight let down.
There are simply better out there and the actual Avengers movie is a far better origin.
The Good:
Has its moments
The Bad:
Highly bland
Characters can be annoying
Story is pants
No real antagonist
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
Mjolnir doesn't know if it wants to be a hammer or an axe
Hulk is worthy
They still haven't explained how Hulks clothes change in size with him!

The action is spectacular and the storyline keeps you riveted from start to finish. This movie grabs with its cinematic lead in and flashback to World War Two. (Complete with throwback radio broadcast) From there, it's one big roller coaster ride to the pulse pounding finish. The battle sequences are some of the best ever animated. I think the PG-13 rating really helps. Soldiers die and heroes bleed, that completely draws the viewer in to the feature. I think movie fans of all ages will be stunned at how many levels this movie delivers upon. This is a smart and surprisingly interesting film that really delivers. Calling this movie a cartoon doesn't really seem right or do it justice.
Like my title says, one extremely satisfying thrill ride!

I just read a review that declares Ultimate Avengers the "Best Animated Superhero Movie of All-Time!" I'll go one better. It's the best animated action movie of all-time, beating big boys like Titan AE, Transformers and The Iron Giant. Most sane people agree that it certainly beats any single episode of Justice League, X-Men Evolution, Batman or Spider-Man. Some want to compare it to these TV series and their entire run but that's apples and oranges. If Ultimate Avengers spins off in to a series, then there can be discussion.
As it stands now, Marvel's first animation effort set the bar quite high, not only for its future endeavors but for other companies and other studios. Ultimate Avengers proves that animated features don't have to talk down to a presumably child audience. You can set up characters and develop a story just like a live action film. The bonus being that once it's time for action, animation offers no limits. Ultimate Avengers proved this in spades. The alien battle and Hulk brawl were intense and spectacular. Setting them up, though, was what elevates this film past the other movies mentioned above. Marvel's live action movie experience bringing the likes of Spider-Man, X-Men and even Daredevil to the screen must have given them the edge. They've brought a remarkable animated world to life with Ultimate Avengers.
