Popular talk show host Jimmy Kimmel came under fire recently for his monologue after Donald Trump’s victory on election night. While talking about how the win would negatively impact the citizens of the USA, the noted comedian choked back tears for a brief moment and continued criticizing the president-elect.
Kimmel’s live breakdown of sorts did not go down well with many viewers, who trolled him for his reaction and called it ‘cringe’. Actor Rob Schneider, who has been a vocal supporter of Trump, called out Kimmel and Oprah Winfrey in a tweet, calling them rich and unaware of how the economy would affect ‘regular Americans’.

Though not a setting often associated with the realm of comedy, there have been dozens of hilarious movies throughout the years that have taken place within the walls of a prison. Many likely spring to mind. And while Down by Law (1986) wasn't one of them, the film at hand in terms of sheer hilarity outshines those that may have. Written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, this is the funniest prison movie ever made regardless of popularity and critical acclaim.
And although Down by Law by no means made waves at the worldwide box office, it was well-received upon release by critics and audiences alike. Marking the third feature film of the aforementioned American auteur following Stranger Than Paradise (1980) and Permanent Vacation (1984), this was by far his funniest film to that point. One could argue it remains the most uproarious Jarmusch film even four decades later. And despite its many competitors,...

The 1997 film Spawn is an interesting entry for the genre. The film itself tried to invoke the tone of thrillers like Se7en with industrial style music throughout and defective framing and fonts during the credits. But the writing and directing were handled by Mark A.Z. Dippé— director of such classics like Big Stan starring Rob Schneider and Garfield Gets Real. The result is a mixed bag of a film that viewers either love or cringe while watching.

Kobe Bryant isn’t the first famous person to be rejected for membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In 2003, Rob Schneider applied to become a member of the Academy — the organization that gives out the Oscars each year — and was denied entry because the actors branch decided that the “Saturday Night Live” alum had not showed enough range in films like “The Animal” and “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.”
“There were some people who felt that basically he has played very similar characters over and over,” Bruce Davis, the Academy’s executive director, told the Wall Street Journal after the organization decided not to extend an invitation.

It's been a rough week for the entertainment industry, with several beloved icons passing away in just a few short days, such as Angus Scrimm, David Bowie, David Margulies and, just yesterday, Alan Rickman. Today, ABC News has confirmed the passing of another beloved entertainer, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams star Dan Haggerty, who passed away early this morning at the age of 74. The actor's manager confirmed his client's passing, after a long battle with cancer.
Dan Haggerty was born Gene Jajonski on November 19, 1941, in Pound, Wisconsin, raised by a family who ran a wildlife animal attraction. During his childhood, he helped raise wild animals such as a black bear that performed tricks, before moving to Southern California to pursue acting. While pursuing his acting career, he was also a bodybuilder on Muscle Beach in Venice, California, which lead to his first film role in 1964's Muscle Beach Party.

The box office looked healthy this weekend; I guess the year can start now. Both new releases exceeded expectations but it was Dreamworks’ latest, Home, that took the top spot. The animated movie ended up with $54 million, a very solid opening considering it wasn’t a sequel.
Get Hard, the R-rated comedy starring Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, earned an estimated $34.6 million. The remake of Big Stan surprised a lot of people. Get Hard is now the second-best opening of Kevin Hart’s career, behind the $41.5 million of 2014’s Ride Along. It’s also one of the best openings of Will Ferrell’s career; his all-time high came in 2006, with the $47 million of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Still around from last weekend of course, The Divergent Series: Insurgent was down nearly 58%. The previous movie dropped 53%, so this franchise is pretty much staying stable.

Get Hard
Notable: The first collaboration of Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.
I didn’t think I would see the day when someone remade a Rob Schneider movie. That’s right, Rob Schneider directed and starred in something calling Big Stan in 2007 and it went something like this: A weak con man panics when he learns he’s going to prison for fraud. He hires a mysterious martial arts guru who helps transform him into a martial arts expert who can fight off inmates who want to hurt or love him.
So now we have Get Hard, which is a strange waste of talent and it feels like a bunch of decade old race jokes thrown together. The jokes won’t be...

Director Matt Shakman’s (TV’s The Good Wife and Fargo) upcoming small-town thriller possesses all of the necessary qualities to gather advance attention. It’s got a quirky indie crime premise, a solid director at the helm, and a starry cast. Does this mean that Cut Bank will deliver the goods? With the film’s release date looming closer, a new trailer has landed (via Yahoo! Movies) that muddies the moral waters of its story…
Shakman makes his feature film debut with the flick, which centers on Dwayne McLaren (Liam Hemsworth); a young auto mechanic and former high school sports star keen to escape his hometown of Cut Bank, Montana. However, his luck takes a turn for the worse when he just so happens to film the apparent murder of a local mailman (Bruce Dern). His discovery kickstarts a series of events that domino into the community.

An initial trailer for the new Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard arrived shortly before Christmas. Here comes the newer, ruder, red band version, featuring more swearing and a little more violence.Get Hard finds Ferrell in full-on bumbler mode as James King, a millionaire hedge fund manager living a seemingly perfect life – big house, flashy gadgets and a beautiful wife (Alison Brie). But then he’s nailed by the Feds for fraud and sentenced to ten years in San Quentin maximum-security prison. Offered 30 days to get his affairs in order, King turns to Darnell Lewis (Hart) to prepare him for the thug life behind bars. There’s just one small problem: Darnell is a hard-working small businessman who hasn’t ever been in trouble with the law and knows as much about surviving in prison as King. Well, maybe a tiny bit more… But sensing an opportunity, he takes on the job.

Kevin Hart's 2014 brought us the not inconsiderable roster of Ride Along, Grudge Match, About Last Night, Think Like A Man Too and Top Five. And while his 2015 isn't looking quite so crowded, it will at the very least unveil Ride Along 2, The Wedding Ringer and Get Hard. To prepare you, the latest trailer for the latter has just arrived online. Be warned: you will see Will Ferrell naked.Cursory inspection of Get Hard suggests similarities to the woeful Rob Schneider vehicle Big Stan (con undertakes a toughening-up programme prior to a stint in jail) and to that unfortunate recent series of films that use the trope of middle class white people getting black people to teach them to be criminals (Horrible Bosses, Tower Heist).Thankfully, however, Get Hard reveals, even in its trailer, that there's more going on here. The premise is Ferrell's own mistaken assumptions about Hart's character,...

A bit of the reality of our current government and law enforcement came into play in last night’s new episode of American Dad!, called “Big Stan on Campus.” Director Bullock (Patrick Stewart) gives his CIA team the bad news that their budget needs to be cut (but he won’t give up his ornate “hover-throne” that he is seen using to get around, naturally) and that he needs one of them to take what he calls a “vacation” (actually an unpaid furlough). Stan agrees before fully understanding what it is, and then must find a way to earn some money during … Continue reading →

Ten years ago Elsa started practicing law on the backlot of Universal Studios, in a trailer on the lot. “I began in 2005 with a lot of schlock films in the early days of digital shooting,” she told me from her Beverly Hills office where she now employs five other women attorneys and has just hired the first man. In 2005 you could make digital movies (just after “Blair Witch”) and international sales agents paid good money for them. DVDs still existed and were a relevant income stream for independent producers. For a $200,000 budget you could reap a return of $2 million even without a large theatrical release. What came out of those days was “bootstrap entrepreneurship” from producers who could produce a film digitally on a shoestring budget.
Her firm also employs a packaging and sales person, Tiffany Boyle, to consult and advise with producer and financier clients on meeting and evaluating distributors, sales agents and financiers. This is not too different from the job of producer reps, but the packaging and sales consultant can work on an hourly or take a percentage of distribution which includes legal.
“It is an enhanced legal service, not at all in competition with Submarine, Preferred Content and other indie producer reps. In fact, sometimes we place our films with them, or we work in tandem with them and even introduce our clients to them as we value what producer reps and agents bring to the table in terms of procuring offers and creating a marketplace for an independent,” she adds.
Tiffany Boyle was previously director of sales at Crystal Sky, working under head of production Benedict Carver (“Underworld”, “Resident Evil”) and head of international sales Daniel Diamond (“The Believer”). She worked in the development and sales on the company’s films, including “Doomsday”, “Big Stan” And “Bratz”.
Ramo herself was born in L.A. but grew up in San Diego as a first generation U.S. citizen. She went to Uc Riverside and as soon as she graduated from University of San Diego School of Law, she returned to L.A.
She began in royalty litigation for music and asked her first employers if she could find her own clients and proceeded to network through the film organizations in L.A. for whom she would do free transactional work. She came from a family business and is very entrepreneurial by nature.
Her expertise has been featured in numerous outlets, including Variety’s 2014 Women Impact Report, The Wrap, Forbes, and Latino Weekly. Incidentally, she is not Latino but her partner, Erika Canchola, is Mexican-American. Erika was an intern for Elsa during law school, then was hired, became an associate, and now is a partner.
Ramo has also lectured on film financing for the California Lawyers for the Arts, Film Independent, Attorney Credits, LawReview Cle,myLawCLE, and the Institute for International Film Financing.
She has been a panel and guest speaker at USC, AFI, UCLA, South by Southwest V2V, Slamdance Film Festival, the San Diego Film Festival, Digital Hollywood, Boston University School of Law, and the University of San Diego Law School. In May 2010, she was awarded an Artistic License Award along with Maria Shriver by California Lawyers for the Arts for her outstanding pro-bono work providing artists and arts organizations with legal services.
Eight years ago she moved her office to Beverly Hills. Every year her business doubles in size. She handles about 50 features a year at various stages of financing, production and distribution. At every major market she has a handful of films.
She just spoke at Digital Hollywood on a panel about women entrepreneurship. She recognizes that men and woman are different and respect for one another professionally is what makes progress possible. She began ten years ago as a young woman in an older man pool, but now she is seen less as a female and more as an equal professional. She tells her interns who are women “never give an excuse of sexism, better than putting energy in negativity is putting it into negotiating and doing your job well irrespective of your sex.”
Elsa is straightforward and outgoing, she has a self-confidence that is warm and welcoming. You want to share with her.
She also notes that the talent to produce low budget films is the same skill set which, even without money to back it, can be used for the new networks and she finds that she is succeeding at pre-selling TV series lately. She is currently legal counsel for her first unscripted doc series to Netflix Chef’s Table and finds that non-conventional serial content is hot now.”
“What is your real goal?” I asked, and she answered that she appreciates the opportunities given to her and appreciates the growth of herself and of her clients. She is also interested in “how much the indie business is changing and has always changed. Three or four years ago it was DVD, and now it is all changed to digital streams of revenue and the great thing is it will all change again.”
Content evolves in a circle. She started with offering free services and was happy to be hired. Now she gives low rates to new filmmakers; she can evaluate their talent better, she recognizes passion and talent. Sometimes it works out for her and the new talent, and sometimes it fails.
“I am always looking for emerging talent, looking at the cutting edge.” The business is constantly evolving and my biggest goal is never to ‘settle’, never to stop.”

Cohen already has a solid relationship with the actor, also directing him in the upcoming Daddy's Home. In Get Hard, Ferrell will play a rich bank manager who is wrongly convicted and sentenced to time in maximum security prison. In order to fully prepare for his time in prison, he hires his car washer (Kevin Hart, next seen in Grudge Match) to toughen him up. And if this feels familiar, this is the exact plot of Rob Schneider's Big Stan, but it's actually a very good concept with plenty of potential. The project i s currently in development, with...

After finding success as a writer with the likes of King Of The Hill, Tropic Thunder and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Etan Cohen is looking to direct a film. His latest project is Get Hard, which boasts Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, and Cohen's planning to direct.Despite that snigger-trigger title, it’s not some Walk Hard-style spoof of Boogie Nights. The plot finds Ferrell playing a nerdy investment bank manager who is screwed over by a rich client and framed for massive fraud. When he can’t wriggle out of the unfair charges, he hires the streetwise guy normally found washing his car (Hart) to train him up to be tough before his stint in prison.Though it sounds like one of those notions that has been done many times before (Rob Schneider’s 2007 film Big Stan has a similar riff), Warner Bros. will be hoping that Ian Roberts...

Chris Pine is now back on market. The "Star Trek" actor has ended his romance with "Big Stan" actress Olivia Munn on Saturday night, January 16, Just Jared reported. The day before, the two were seen keeping their distance while attending the NY Times Style Magazine's Golden Globes cocktail party at the Chateau Marmont penthouse in West Hollywood.
"Olivia broke things off with Chris because they just didn't see eye to eye anymore," a source told the site about the reason for their split. "Even though he was sweet and charming at the beginning, his personality became too much to handle in the end."
Chris Pine and Olivia Munn were first reported dating five months ago, but they refused to open up about their special relationship. In early January, however, they were allegedly spotted spending night together at Los Angeles bar The Woods. At that time, an onlooker said, "They looked...

When you hear a title like that, it’s pretty easy to immediately think it’s just a really bad joke, or possibly part of our Fan Film Friday series. Sadly, this new trailer is neither. From Silver Nitrate Films, the brains behind such films as S. Darko and Rob Schneider’s Big Stan comes The 40 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It.
The premise is basically Scary Movie aimed towards anything that has had Judd Apatow’s name on it in the past five years. There are spoofs for things like The 40 Year Old Virgin to Superbad. They are all included. It’s a shame that the parody machine has gotten so out of control that studios are now giving the green light to projects that actually satire…satires. Shouldn’t that open up a black hole somewhere?

Aside from some potentially disturbing images, news has been pretty quiet about casting for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. But recently, G4’s Olivia Munn, host of Attack of the Show, tweeted on Twitter that she’s working on two new film projects, one being the Tina Fey/Steve Carell project Date Night, and one that she couldn’t “legally” discuss.
It turns out that the film in question is Iron Man 2 and the general assumption is that she will have more of a cameo, showing up in a scene or two. Munn did, however, say on Twitter that she will “definitely” have a bigger part than her one-minute scene in Rob Schneider’s direct-to-dvd film Big Stan.
Aside from Stan, Munn can soon be seen in Broken Lizard’s Slammin’ Salmon, and of course every day on G4’s Attack of the Show, where they just announced...

Back in April, Attack of the Show co-host Olivia Munn revealed on Twitter that she has been cast in two upcoming movies: One is the upcoming Steve Carell/Tina Fey comedy Date Night, and the other is some project that she was working out for but wasn't "legally" allowed to publicly discuss yet. It turns out that she has a role in Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2. No word on how large of a role she might play. I assume that she'll probably be in one or two scenes, possibly as a television announcer. Munn said on Twitter that her role is "definitely" bigger than her one minute appearance in Rob Schneider's Big Stan. Update: Munn later commented on our story on her twitter account: slashfilm took a guess at my role in iron man 2 and i am not playing a reporter. but that's all i can say.

Dragonball: Evolution - I'm not sure why this movie wasn't made seven years ago, quite frankly. Ya know, when it was actually popular.
Elegy - Isobel Coixet's films typically get love it/hate it reactions and Elegy is not different. After hating her last movie, the Sarah Polley-starring My Life Without Me,...

Schneider: 'Movie Bad Guy Isn't Based On My Dad'
Rob Schneider insists the rogue real estate agent he plays in new movie Big Stan isn't based on his own dad, who used to sell property for a living.
In the movie, which Schneider also directed, the funnyman's character is sentenced to prison time after cheating clients out of money.
But he insists there's no comparison to his own father - who was an honest broker.
Schneider tells Starpulse.com, "My dad was a really honest guy. He was the first guy to rent to African Americans in San Francisco in '54, before the civil rights movement and he's a good guy. He would never allow people to buy the homes if they couldn't afford to pay. He would never give loans via a second mortgage company. His clients never lost money; though, I don't think he would have been able to protect them in this kind of (climate). Anybody who lost money, he would absorb it. He was that good a guy."...

Movie Clash With Carradine Left Schneider Battered And Bruised
Actor Rob Schneider was left with a string of painful injuries after clashing with Kung Fu legend David Carradine in his latest movie.
Carradine plays a martial arts expert hired to toughen up Schneider's character in Big Stan, the film funnyman's directorial debut.
Schneider insisted on shooting his own stunts - and ended up with broken bones and agonising muscle tears.
He tells Starpulse.com, "I did my own stunts the whole movie. I tore my rotator cuff, I broke my ankle and David Carradine broke my finger."
A strict fitness and diet regime to help him get in shape - combined with a scorching California heatwave during the shoot - also left Schneider with food poisoning.
He adds, "I would get to (the set) and it was 120 degrees it was like a vacation. What happened was the refrigerators on the trucks couldn't keep the food cold enough so it poisoned me. I had five eggs a day, that's what Bruce Lee ate... then I get f**king sick."...

I remember Rob Schneider telling us about his directorial debut at the junket for The Benchwarmers. He described Big Stan, almost word for word the scene where the corporate criminal finds out he's going to be raped in prison. That is in the movie and rape continues to play a big role.
On DVD: Big Stan
I couldn't believe he actually got it made so I had to watch the movie. As a directorial debut, it certainly looks like a real movie. Nothing special, but the shots are composed and it's edited. It doesn't look any worse than a standard SNL-alum high concept comedy.
It's an "edgy" Rob Schneider film since the rape and other language makes it R. So that's a tad different, even from Deuce Bigelow which was innocent, if vulgar, sex jokes. This is not innocent.

Schneider Slams Gibson
Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo star Rob Schneider is the first actor to publicly announce he will never work with Mel Gibson due to the anti-Semitic remarks he made when he was arrested last Friday. Schneider took out an ad in Hollywood trade paper Variety slamming the star for his behavior in "An Open Letter to the Hollywood Community." The ad appeared yesterday and said, "I, Rob Schneider, a 1/2 Jew, pledge from this day forth to never work with Mel Gibson-actor-director-producer-and anti-Semite." Schneider then went on to say even if he were offered the lead role in Passion Of The Christ 2 or a "juicy voice-over role in his new flick Apocalypto and spoke ancient Mayan" he would still turn them down. He also repeatedly praised Hollywood talent manager Bernie Brillstein for publicly saying he would refuse to work with Gibson because "I just don't like bigots." The actor continued by saying he had recently directed a film called Big Stan in which there was a part for a Nazi gang leader "which apparently Mel would be perfect for." Schneider said he would still not cast Gibson in that role and ended the letter by saying, "Of course that would only be after I talked with my financial backers. Some of whom share Mr. Gibson's hankering for a good bottle of tequila. Because, after all...I don't get to call all the shots."...
