The story of Chance and his plight through life and its many hurdles.

Kill the Moonlight is a piece of artistic genius. From the story line of a "LOSER" finding his way through L.A. and the many sub-encounters that this evokes.

It is true Folk-art. It is Modern Art. And it is most importantly F-U-N. And besides that, every shot is a masterpiece of Los Angeles and Simi Valley in the tumultuous early 1990's.

I recommend this movie for anyone who needs to know more about the life of a "lost" 20 something young man living in Southern California and trying to fulfill a dream, a desire, and a passion. In fact, this movie gives more to the viewer than the so-called cult hit "Slacker".

See it for yourself--its now available on DVD!!!!!

Things Are Gonna Change, I Can Feel It

I'm dropping in to provide a quick correction to something in a previous poster's review.

Beck was not in a band called Loser with Kill the Moonlight's director Steve Hanft.

As mentioned in the trivia section, Beck's hit song "Loser" featured an audio clip from Kill the Moonlight ("I'm a driver. I'm a winner. Things are gonna change, I can feel it").

Hanft would go on to direct several of Beck's music videos over the years, including the video for the aforementioned "Loser."

Several clips of the Kill the Moonlight film are featured in the "Loser" music video and, as that previous reviewer mentioned, there are a few Beck tracks on the Kill the Moonlight soundtrack.

"Soy un perdedor I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?

(Get crazy with the cheeze whiz)"

"Soy un perdedor I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?"

    "(Drive-by body pierce)"

    "Yo, bring it on down"

"Soy un perdedor I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?

    (I can't believe you)"

Slacker Wannabe Needs Cash for Racing Car

This is a strange movie, but also one which is strangely good. I bought it mainly because I like motor racing and it sounded good on the cover, thinking it would be a sort of "Days of Thunder" meets "Napoleon Dynamite". Actually, it was more like another of my favourate movies, "Repo Man". The central character, Chance, is a slacker type guy who wants to be a stock car racer. Unfortunately his car needs a new engine, and he has no money. The movie follows his various attempts to raise money, by taking a variety of slightly bizarre jobs, selling drugs and stealing. Along the way he is poisoned by toxic waste, sleeps with his friend's girlfriend and tries to win back his estranged wife. As well as money, Chance also lacks intelligence, meaning that most of his money-raising attempts end in him being conned, busted, or injured. The funny thing is, although he says "I'm gonna be a winner", he's such a slacker he never actually focuses his mind on his objective.

Overall, it's a good movie, with some great and slightly surreal scenes, good dialogue and strangely empathetic characters. It's low budget, so don't expect amazing cinematography, but its heart is in the right place and there are some interesting ideas. As a bonus, it features a great soundtrack with some good slacker tunes including some from a (pre-famous) Beck, who was in the band "Loser" with the movie's director.
