    Highly enigmatic

Clarice Lispector's short story "The Egg" is a stream of consciesness with the author going from the blatant question of who came first, the chicken or the egg, and while addressing such issue her thoughts make a metaphorical reflection on life, the human condition and why the egg is such an important part of the equation. This very short film is a slightly free vision of the written material, using the best excerpts from the author and mixing it with some poetical imagery and Lispector's words being narrated by MPB music legend singer Maria Bethânia, as actors Louise Cardoso, Chico Diaz, Lucélia Santos and Carla Camuratti appear as the creative forces who saw the egg (or maybe not, because the egg can't be seen with naked eyes).

Judging by itself is quite artistic and curious, almost vague with its jumbled mix. If reading Lispector and her prolongued text, then you have a different experience watching it, quite satisfying. Most of the words wouldn't get a fair translation of images, since most of it are thought process that go everywhere, and screenwriters hardly challenge themselves in making a 100% close adaptation (it's simply not cinematic and I dare one writer trying it with success. You can get close to an extreme faithful adaptation or translation of a written work but not fully). It's cool and it made me submerse into the mysterious ways of life. 6/10.
