Maybe for the VERY young... everyone else should avoid

When I saw the first "Dr. Dolittle" movie (on free TV, naturally - there was no way I was going to pay to see it!), I thought that would be enough for me. I didn't see part 2. But when the opportunity to see this sequel came to me, I decided to take a chance, seeing that Eddie Murphy (an actor I can't stand) wasn't in it. (As well, I got a free opportunity to see this movie as well.)

For a made-for-DVD movie, the production values are pretty good. Not theatrically lavish, but the movie looked pretty good. The movie has some positive messages about being yourself, and the humor is not as crude as some other "family" movies (though there is the occasional questionable element, like one teen being socked in the crotch, and one animal saying he has the "runs".) That's about all I can say that's positive about this movie.

The characters (except maybe for the ranch boss and his son) aren't very likable (even the female heroine.) The movie is also stretched out noticeably - there's about enough story for an hour-long drama for TV (with commercials.) It doesn't help that the story is VERY predictable. There is also the problem I had with the first movie - if the animals are so smart to be able to communicate with the Dolittles, then why do they act like stupid animals with the other humans instead of doing what they think? (And why does no one notice their mouth movements when they are speaking to a Dolittle?)

I've seen plenty of worse made-for-DVD movies, but I was still seriously bored, and I think older viewers will feel the same. There must have been plenty of young fans of this movie, because as of this date, there have been TWO MORE sequels in this series sent to video stores! Kids might like these movies, but parents, you can surely expose them to better family movies than this!

P.S. - Gary Busey must have REALLY needed the money to have contributed to this movie!

    Something for the entire family...

When I sat down here in 2022 to watch the 2006 family movie "Dr. Dolittle 3", I didn't really expect a whole lot. Why? Well, given the nature of the concept behind the movie, then I figured three movies in that the soup must be boiled thin already.

However, I opted to give writers Nina Colman and Hugh Lofting's movie a chance, on the account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen.

Oddly enough, then I will say that director Rich Thorne actually delivered a wholesome movie with "Dr. Dolittle 3". It was a storyline that entertained both me and my son, as we watched it together. Sure, the storyline is somewhat tacky and corny, but it still works out well enough. I was actually adequately entertained by this movie, despite it being somewhat generic and predictable.

The acting in the movie was good, and they definitely had a good cast ensemble, both for the people in the movie and also for the voice acting of the animals.

I am rating "Dr. Dolittle 3" a six out of ten stars, as it is a wholesome family.

They really didn't need Murphy. What they DID need was a good script writer!

I have to say that I did not hate this movie. I can understand the 3. rating here at IMDb, but I cannot understand the poor reviews.

Kyla Pratt is awesome in this work! She is really coming into her own, AND she can sing like a bird.

The script is where the fault lies. You have a bunch of kids who must save a ranch, which is going out of business. This vehicle is so overused it has become cliché, and it sure did feel old, musty, and stale, in spite of Kyla Pratt and her stellar performance.

Some have suggested that they needed Murphy back for this installment to make it work. I say Murphy isn't necessary in ANY of his later films. What they needed was a good screenwriter, and producers who knew better than to approve a bucket of schlock as this.

    It could have been great.

    It rates a 4.4/10 from...

So they really do need Eddie Murphy

I wanted to finish the Dr. Dolittle sequels and in some way I was interested to see how they would continue the story with Mya Dolittle. Well, this movie turned into a totally unrealistic typical pre-teen comedy that had no originality or interest, even if it was meant for a specific crowd. It was insulting to any human's intelligence, I mean, are we supposed to believe everyone naturally knows how to dance at a party? Or that Mya could sing beautifully, dance wonderfully, and be perfect and not be popular?

Mya is now considered a freak at her school since she can talk to the animals. But when her mom realizes she still needs to find herself, she sends Mya to a ranch where Mya changes her name to get a new look and personality. But she ends up falling for the ranch owner's son and they face another ranch of snobs, the ranch owner is about to loose his farm and Mya decides to pull the team together to win the money to keep the ranch.

Well, you see where this story is going, and it's a typical one. I was really disappointed with the movie and I wouldn't really recommend it, even for pre-teens, for me, I think it has insults their intelligence, it's just one of those movies, believe me. Stick with Eddie Murphy, he's a professional.

The first movie was great, the second OK, but the third......to be not continued.

At the beginning you see the director focusing on other character of the Dolittle family, the teenager daughter of Dr. Doolittle, trying to give the movie a fresh twist. But folks the only thing it did was make this film flat, with a very few laughs, no charisma and in a horrifying way of being predictable in almost of the movie, it's like you can see how its gonna end after you've watch the firsts 15 min.

In conclusion this movie its not even good to entertain kids, I don't

recommend this one, just skip it. The only thing i get from Dr. Dolittle 3 is that i miss Eddy Murphy's way of making me laugh until my lungs come out from my nose holes...
