Supernatural is in a class of its own, following the charismatic Winchester brothers around the country as they take on ghosts, vampires, demons, and more, all while preventing the apocalypse—a few times. The cult fantasy series has been off the air for almost five years, and audiences are looking for something to fill that void. While no other show is quite like the beloved horror series, there are plenty of amazing fantasy shows—some with overlapping elements.
Supernatural's major themes include family, good versus evil, sacrifice, and perseverance. The series also has a darkly comedic tone and a killer soundtrack. There are some other great fantasy shows, old and new, that fans can watch to scratch the Supernatural itch.

Procedural TV shows that delve into the paranormal offer a unique blend of mystery, comedy, and drama. Angel, Grimm, and Supernatural successfully intertwine supernatural elements with procedural crime-solving. Shows like Penny Dreadful, Twin Peaks, and Fringe have unique and captivating storylines that set them apart.
Procedural TV shows are widely popular, but procedural shows that deal with the paranormal add a whole extra layer that makes them even more unique and interesting. Procedural TV shows typically have a set formula which each episode tends to follow, and they may or may not have a loose story that runs underneath. With this format, it allows a series to be enjoyed by audiences who can drop in on any episode and still enjoy what's happening, although watching the series as a whole will likely add context and enhance the experience.

Many great fantasy shows based on books often go unnoticed and underappreciated in the competitive world of television. Niche fantasy shows, even with a strong fan base, may still face cancellation, as seen with Netflix's Shadow and Bone. Despite being prematurely canceled, some fantasy shows are still worth watching for their amazing storylines and talented cast performances.
The world of fantasy shows is competitive, and even some of the greatest pieces of fantasy television can easily go unnoticed and underappreciated, especially those based on books. With hugely successful adaptations, like Game of Thrones and The Witcher, taking up all the space, more niche shows do not stand a chance at getting properly recognized. Those that do may still suffer the fate of cancellation, which happens more and more often in the era of streaming. For instance, Netflix canceled Shadow and Bone after season 2 seemingly out of the blue, even...

The Witcher series of novels received a huge shot in the arm thanks to the massive success of its video game adaptations. People who knew Geralt from the games were starving for more stories about their favorite character, and that led people to read the books. There’s no denying how influential a good video game can be.
There are so many book series out there that would benefit greatly from a video game adaptation. Whether they’re atmospheric adventures or action-packed first-person shooters, these books would be money as video games.
Ciaphas Cain
Ciaphas Cain has had so many adventures that it would be child’s play to create a wholly original story for his video game debut. Games like Warhammer 40k: Space Marine could be focused on over-the-top action, but Ciaphas Cain could benefit from being a Knights of the Old Republic-style RPG.

The third season of Jared Padalecki’s Walker began airing on October 6, 2022, which confirms the success of the reboot of the series that originally starred Chuck Norris. Walker’s premise was interesting enough to get another chance and Redditors have come up with other TV shows they feel have outlines that are tailor-made for reboots.
These range from shows that had a long run but lost steam such as Once Upon a Time to series that showed promise but were soon canceled like Y: The Last Man. It’s interesting to check out the Redditors’ opinions since they give solid reasons why the shows weren’t as successful and why their potential reboots could be.

True Blood only finished its final and least impressive season six years ago, but it’s been decided that this is long enough to warrant the series being rebooted. Naturally, fans of the show are less than pleased with the announcement, and haven’t been shy in making their feelings known.
Social media reaction to any kind of reboot or remake is usually negative, but the news of True Blood being done again has provoked a particularly vocal outcry, where it didn’t involve people taking the opportunity to relive just how horny both the series was and it made them.

In the land of fantasy novels, it’s not uncommon for series to go on for seven, twelve, or fifteen books. Some of my favorite series have clocked in at ten books or more. George R. R. Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” books are planned to hit seven in order to catch up to where the television adaptation Game of Thrones ended; the “Wheel of Time” books by Robert Jordan, completed by Brandon Sanderson, reached an epic fourteen; and books sixteen and seventeen of Jim Butcher’s “Dresden Files” are due out this year.
When such length is the norm, it become even more impressive when authors can pack a solid punch with a trilogy. This year, three solid trilogies have already concluded, giving readers a chance to see how even a short series can really stick the landing when it comes to that final installment. Kameron Hurley...

The game Plague Inc. is getting a new mode that lets you save the world from a pandemic instead of destroy it.
“The game Plague Inc. is best known for letting you create a disease to wipe out humanity. But in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Plague Inc. will add a new game mode that’ll let you do the opposite and save the world from a deadly outbreak. The game’s developer Ndemic Creations is creating the new game mode on feedback from the World Health Organization and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.”

In the novels, Dresden faces off with a variety of creatures — magic, vampires, demons, spirits, faeries, werewolves and other monsters are real — while realizing that his cases...

I am, as I have previously noted, a big fan of Jim Butcher’s long-running series about the modern-day wizard Harry Dresden, a.k.a. The Dresden Files. The stories and characters are great fun and the books just keep getting better, and more complex, and deeper overall. If you haven’t encountered the series before, I highly recommend it; and of course Wikipedia has a handy list of all of the books if you need to see where to start.
At Dragon Con in 2013, I sat down with Jim to hear more about book fifteen of the series, Skin Game. It was a delight talking with Jim and getting to learn the latest on a world I’ve grown to love. So I’m lying on the physical therapy table today, mostly trying to not concentrate on how painful whatever my therapist is doing is (“But it’s the good pain – the good pain!” I assure myself as I grasp the edge of the table) when the therapist next to me and his patient start talking about having just seen the Deadpool movie. Naturally I can’t help but join the conversation.
“So what did you think?” I inquire, and both of them enthusiastically agree that it was great. “Have you read the comics, or did you come to the character through the movie?” I ask. Neither has read the comics, although the patient’s son has. But both agree that they are looking forward to the sequel already; and after some talk about Deadpool, the conversation slides easily and naturally into Netflix’ Jessica Jones and Daredevil, and then hops over to The Dresden Files.

We take a look at the Wachowski's latest outing, the Netflix sci-fi drama Sense8. Spoilers lie ahead...
This is a spoiler-y review.
A collaboration between the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski sounded almost too good to be true, but Netflix delivered last Friday with the release of the entire first season of Sense8. If Daredevil gave genre fans an incentive to subscribe to Netflix, Sense8 gave them a reason to stick around.
The first season of Sense8 may not pack the same entertainment power as Daredevil, but Sense8’s long drawn – some might even say overdrawn – character-driven moments and slowly unfolding plot make the series almost as worthy of binge watching.
The premise of the series sounds like rehash of material that has already been seen countless times in genre fiction over the past three decades. Who has any interest left for yet another psychic powers story? Yet, from its first moment,...

From Star Trek: Generations through to Star Trek: Nemesis - here are 47 nerdy spots in the Next Generation films...
Since Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979, the Star Trek cinematic outings have proved to be a smorgasbord of references and famous actors (or those who would go on to be), and often had complex behind the scenes events that stopped some rather, ahem, fascinating moments making it to the final version. We found lots of nerdy spots in the first six films here.

I have a thing for rainbows. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always liked rainbows. Not the upside-down-smiley-face, fluffy-clouds-on-the-ends drawings of rainbows (I kind of don’t like those), but real, elusive, illuminated water droplets in the sky and spectrums created by prisms rainbows. I have even been known to run out into the rain to get pictures of a really good (really big) rainbow.

Constantine TV Review (NBC)
The world of sci-fi television is growing by leaps and bounds, and the comic-related realm is especially skyrocketing as of late, but even in the new era of television, Constantine is a massive gamble. A weird hybrid of film noir-esque motifs and traditions, and the wildest fantasy filled with demons, angels and everything in between, it’s a story tailor made for self-professed comic geeks. Superheroes are one thing, but Constantine, popular as it is within its own circle, is a niche in a niche, and it’s in a small box in the corner of that room besides.
Convincing the numbers NBC is going to want isn’t going to be easy, and the somewhat half-hearted special effects budget isn’t going to help.

Last year it was announced that the The Wachowskis (The Matrix, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Thor, Underworld Awakening) would be teaming up with Netflix to develop a new series called Sense8. Up to this point all that we've know about the show is that it was developed from a conversation about "the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us." It's also been described as "a gripping tale of minds linked and souls hunted.”
Thanks to Deadline, we now have a lot more information on the ten episode series, including the large cast and details on the plot.
Naveen Andrews (Lost), Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill), and Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe) are among a 14-member international cast. As for the story, the following information comes from Straczynski, who is the showrunner:

Demon hunters have changed: no longer crazy old men like Van Helsing, the current breed of screen heroes are young and, well, cool...
Since the days of Dracula and Van Helsing, demon hunters have always existed in popular culture. While this idea has evolved to include witches, slayers, vigilantes and modern-day descendents of classic characters, they have essentially remained the same over the years. There are many reasons for a character to be or become a hunter, but they always have just one goal – rid the earth of evil and save humanity. Our television screens have hosted a myriad of interesting figures over the years and now, with shows like Grimm flying the flag and subverting a lot of our ingrained ideas, the TV demon hunter is experiencing a kind of second golden age.

Every little thing he does is magic, or so the ensorcelled suits at Warner Bros. seem to believe. "Man of Steel" writer David S. Goyer's already pounding away at a Batman-infused sequel, but that may be sidelined, if momentarily, by a case of Vertigo. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Goyer will partner with Daniel Cerone, executive producer of "The Mentalist," to script a "Constantine" pilot for NBC television.
Conjured by scattered bones across a nicotine pentagram in the very image of Police-era Sting, street-wise sorcerer John Constantine first appeared in the pages of Alan Moore’s "Swamp Thing." He soon established his own haunts in Vertigo's long-running "Hellblazer" series, stewarded by the likes of Jamie Delano, Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Denise Mina, Andy Diggle, Peter Milligan and more. In 2005, Keanu Reeves donned his demons (but not his brogue or blonde hair) in a film by Francis Lawrence.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big fan of The Dresden Files, so it was awesome to get to sit down and chat with author Jim Butcher about the series while at Dragon Con last weekend!
The Dresden Files, as you may know, is a series about the wizard Harry Dresden, and follows his adventures and investigations into supernatural disturbances in modern-day Chicago, which he recounts through a first person narrative. It’s also, oh-by-the-way, a ton of fun, and weaves a lot of lore, myth, and legend from all cultures into modern adventure stories with a wizard who’s more gunfighter than Gandalf (even if he fights with a staff much of the time). As the series has progressed, it’s also gotten more complex and nuanced, with some great plot twists and character developments along the way. I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t yet read it.

New comic book Wednesday has come and gone. The dust at your local comic shop has settled. An eerie silence descends as you finish reading your last superhero book of the week. Now it's time for something a little more sinister. Welcome to Bagged and Boarded: comic reviews of the sick, spooky, twisted and terrifying! Itty Bitty Hellboy No. 1 Yes, you read that title correctly! Hellboy and the gang (Abe Sapien, Karl Kroenen, Johann, etc.) are all imagined as kids in this all-ages romp. In six short stories, the kids go swimming, fight over cardboard box forts, and fill Johann's suit up with chicken soup and crackers (because he has a cold and keeps sneezing himself out of his suit). These stories, told in a Peanuts style, loosely connect and follow each other, but it's really all about the fun and jokes. Bag it or board it up? Yes. Yes...

Breaking Bad writer-producer George Mastras has signed on to write the screenplay for 90 Church, which has Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) attached to direct.
The project is based on Dean Unkefer's book 90 Church: The True Story Of The Narcotics Squad From Hell, which was published in May by Random House. Here's the book's official description.
"From 1950 through the late 1960s, America feared two great enemies: Communism and illegal drugs. While the espionage stories have been well publicized, the war against drugs was far more violent and has remained mostly secret.
At its peak, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (Fbn) enlisted only 350 agents worldwide. In New York City, the center of organized crime and rum import, there were only 35 street agents in the bureau's office at 90 Church Street. While the FBI refused even to acknowledge organized crime, these agents stood alone against a well-organized Mafia and vicious drug cartels.
