F***ing A, this film is the strangest thing I have seen

This short film was awesome. Besides being quite possibly the strangest short film I have ever seen, it might be the smartest and the most well thought out. I had a chance to see The Birthday Boy at the First Glance Film Festival in LA and you know, I loved it. At first I was like talking babies- so what, but then it all clicked. If you get a chance to see this movie, do so. I can honestly say that this filmmaker is a unique voice and put an entirely original spin on this type of storytelling. The Birthday Boy has my vote for the best short film I have seen in 2005. PS- The colors, compositions, costumes, and music work as well together as any feature film I have seen in quite some time...

Good job to the filmmaker... keep making films, you have a fan in me.

    Fearless First Film

This film is well thought out and extremely well directed.

To take on the challenge of directing small children and pull it off is an accomplishment in it's own right.

Eddie Mensore does more than "pull it off" in The Birthday Boy.

His attention to detail is captured in this witty, colorful, fast paced look into the minds of children placed in situations beyond their control. It is a batlle of will not only between parent and child, but toddler and infant as well.

Any parent or older sibling will appreciate it's humor and message.

    Definitely worth the watch!

a kids film adults will enjoy

Even though this is a kids film, I, as an adult who enjoys well done films, thought The Birthday Boy was a very well done piece of cinematography. Eddie Mensore's choice of lighting, editing, camera's point of view, and direction clearly show meticulous analysis and good taste. It is a funny story with a heart warming drop spilled all over it. What I really enjoyed about the plot was that I absorbed it as a metaphor, which then made me chuckle even more to what was being said and how. This is, in no doubt, a short independent film with great accomplishment that is not only meant for kids but for the kids that are lingering inside all of us.

A truly original kids' short done right

From colors to cast, shot selection to score, this short hits its mark, then sticks with you. Mr Mensore explores the previously unknown world of communications between babies without the trendy lip moving effects or pseudo-educational junk found in most children's films these days. It is fun, wacky, original, and believe it or not... live action! Who ever decided that young kids films need to be animated to work should watch this short. I got a chance to see The Birthday Boy at the Bahamas International Film Festival, and 2 things were very apparent. First, it had a larger audience than any film (including features) in the whole festival. Second, the kids and their parents loved it- so did I, and you will too. It makes me wonder whether babies really can communicate with each other, but assures me that Mr Mensore knows how to communicate with an audience through film- check it out.
