Dinner Conversation

Stephen (Brian Palermo) and Martin (Mitch Silpa) are on their third date. They're having dinner at Stephen's apartment. They start talking and quickly some very amusing truths come flying from their mouths...

A perfect gay date movie! The leads are charming and the dialogue is very witty and right on target. They capture exactly what it's like on the all important third date. It all leads to a happy conclusion. I saw this at a gay and lesbian film festival and the mostly male audience went wild! Straight audiences might not get it--as I said the dialogue is exactly what you would hear on a date. Gay men will identify with it completely. A 10 for gay men.

I don't think that I can get out the minimum 10 lines needed for a review of this very short film, especially without a spoiler, but here goes. Two guys have been dating. These are not studly handsome guys, but they are regular guys, nice normal gay guys. One of them cooks dinner for the other, at his apartment. It's apparently the first time the other has come to the apartment. The other tells the cook how much he loves everything: "I love the apartment, I love the mahi-mahi, I love the asparagus, I love the wine," and finally lets out with a line that causes a great silence, but the conversation picks up again, and a similar list is emitted by the cook, but then . . .

This film is one of many that are included in a collection of short films entitled "Shorts: Volume Four". This and the rest of the films in this series are interesting shorts made mostly but up and coming film makers. This is one of the shortest films in the set--and it's only about four minutes long.

The film begins with two guys having dinner together. Soon it becomes apparent that they must be gay and one of them blurts out that he loves the other man. However, both are afraid of commitment and they dance around this throughout the film. The dialog is exceptionally witty and clever and the direction tight and on target--and you can't help but laugh along with the film. Interestingly, though this is technically a gay film, the interaction between them is universal and most anyone can relate.
