    Brilliant portrait of my country.

Very emotional portrait of my country, Croatia. Excellent acting, especially Kreso Mikic, ironical designed approach, very, very precise description of now-days Zagreb and Croatia. I consider it one of best films in modern Croatia, definitely best directed film in last 15 years. After war topics brought us many lousy films, this is fight with after effects of transition. People are rushing towards west, forgetting their peace and intimacy. I've heard that it will be after all shown in cinemas, I think this film deserved it. Also festivals could be interested in approach that AIDS is metaphor for effects of transition, situation where we're not finding ourselves in years that are passing very fast... I deeply recommend this film for all those who want to learn more about Balkans.

VOLIM TE ( I Love You)

Kreso has everything - youth, money and successful girlfriend. His job is a dream for every Croatian brought up in capitalism - He's a copywriter in a flash PR agency. At the same Time, Kreso doesn't have anything. Him and his girlfriend Ana are overworked and they don't spend a lot of time together and their friends are innocent high school colleagues who have become a bunch of empty bumps in constant pursue for easy women, alcohol and drugs. One day, after a car accident while drinking and driving, where he killed a woman, Kreso got blood transfusion, he learns that he is HIV +. His life changes over night: His girlfriend splits, he gets fired and his friends abandoned him...Krese stays alone and starts getting a revenge till he meats another fallen angel who's lonely just as much as he is...

VOLIM TE is mediocrity in loud, jarring tones

VOLIM TE is mediocrity in loud, jarring tones; a bizarre hodgepodge of painfully irrelevant scenes, preening narcissism, and self-righteousness so over-abound that I never decided who I hated the most. Every single character is a victim and hence, unsympathetic; more so because no one has anything else going for them. We have HIV-positive young men from a wealthy family, drug addicts, gays and skin-heads, whores and wanton young people and all of them inhabit a Zagreb that is alarmingly closed and narrow. People are still dying of AIDS, of course, but the political activism surrounding the disease long ago faded from the headlines, largely because the virus now seems more preoccupied with Africa than film directors and fashion designers. Years ago, it was almost hip to be afflicted with the disease (or at least wear a ribbon in recognition of its impact on the Hollywood community); now it's simply something to die from, and hell, we have the bird flu to keep us up nights. My problem here, of course, is not homosexuality or even the politicization of AIDS, but rather the sort of arrogance that refuses to take responsibility and meet the other side half way in finding a solution. But like the characters in "Volim Te", they moped around feeling sorry for themselves and wondered why the world stopped paying attention. AIDS is a horrible affliction, but it's far worse for the body when coupled with stupefying boredom.
