The Songwriters Hall of Fame will recognize Stephen Schwartz — the arranger and composer behind the music from “Wicked,” “Godspell” and “Pippin” — as the recipient of the 2025 Johnny Mercer Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala, slated for June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
The Johnny Mercer Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, is exclusively reserved for a songwriter or songwriting team who has already been inducted in a prior year and whose body of work is of “such high quality and impact that it upholds the gold standard set by the legendary Johnny Mercer,” per the Shof. When Enchanted premiered in 2007, it was a totally different climate for Disney. The animation industry was in the middle of a major change from traditional hand-drawn techniques to computer-generated imagery. DreamWorks' Shrek franchise was turning the fairy tale genre on its head to great success. And Disney chose to release their first hybrid live-action and animated film since Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1998). The film headlined some of the biggest stars of the time, including Patrick Dempsey, Susan Sarandon, and Idina Menzel and showcased a relatively green Amy Adams.
Enchanted sat in development at Disney for almost ten years. And what began as a film potentially capitalizing on modern audiences' disillusionment with fairy tales became a nod and homage to the genre. What resulted...

James Marsden is looking to make his biopic debut — and has his sights set on Mickey Blue Eyes.
“Paradise” actor Marsden told The Post that he aspires to portray Frank Sinatra onscreen in a feature similar to Oscar-winning 2004 Ray Charles biopic “Ray.”
“To do a biopic like what Jamie Foxx did with Ray Charles would be a lot of fun,” Marsden said. “I would love to. And you’re actually using your singing voice, as well.”
Marsden previously sang in 2007 films “Enchanted” and “Hairspray,” the latter of which Marsden deemed to be like a “Broadway show” to film. He added that “Hairspray” was a “joyous” production akin to attending a “party.” Perhaps a Sinatra biopic could be the same.
“I’ve always loved emulating some of the old crooners, like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin,” Marsden said of potentially playing Sinatra. “I always thought there were so...

James Marsden wants to play Frank Sinatra in a biopic.
“I’ve always loved emulating some of the old crooners, like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin,” Marsden told the New York Post this week. “I always thought there were so many interesting stories of Frank Sinatra’s life that could be played. And for whatever reason, you’ve never really seen a movie about him.”
To be fair, Ray Liotta played Sinatra in 1998’s made-for-television movie The Rat Pack, James Russo played him in Stealing Sinatra, also made for TV (released in 2003, the movie covers the 1963 kidnapping of the singer’s famous son), Dennis Hopper played him in 2003’s The Night We Call It a Day, about Sinatra’s 1963 Australia tour, and Robert Knepper played him in 2012’s My Way, about the life of French singer Claude François.

One of the most popular Super Bowl Lix commercials featured The Muppets in an ad for Booking.com. Despite airing late in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided, the commercial had fans talking and the consensus was, the beloved franchise needs to return, and it needs to be done right.
As with many Super Bowl Lix commercials, the one featuring The Muppets debuted about nine to ten days before the big game. As of this writing, it has garnered 93 million views and there is an overall feeling of nostalgia attached to seeing Jim Henson's famous creations again, even if it's a 30-second commercial for a travel booking website.
One fan said it best on X, formerly Twitter (via ComicBook):

Disney is still committed to adapting their most beloved animated films into live-action movies, despite their past attempts receiving mixed reviews at best. Cinderella, which they already remade in 2015, is next on the chopping block. However, according to a new report, the film will potentially be the most unfaithful adaptation thus far. In fact, it won't even include Cinderella. The new live-action Prince Charming movie was announced last October, with Paddington's Paul King developing the film. Chris Hemsworth was also in talks to play the titular Prince, although, that appears to have fallen through. Since then, Twisters star Daisy Edgar-Jones has reportedly been cast in the movie, and her role has just been revealed.
Disney's live-action Prince Charming is reportedly moving ahead, according to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman. According to the report, the film will follow an unnamed animator (Edgar-Jones) who sketches drawings of Prince Charming from Cinderella. One day her drawing comes to life.

Disney has a way of keeping things in the family as it’s not uncommon for the studio to team up with actors they’ve previously worked with across their various brands. Throughout the Disney branded projects you’ll see many familiar faces crossing over from the worlds of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Animation, and Pixar with the studio often tapping actors who have brought success in past projects to help lead new movies and shows.
So perhaps for that reason, it will likely come as no surprise to fans that Disney is apparently set to team up with two of the biggest stars in the MCU for a pair of upcoming projects that will see the Marvel alums taking on a pair of iconic Disney animated characters!

In 2024, Amy Adams appeared in the movie Nightbitch, and although the critical ratings are somewhat divisive, there's a chance that this film could win Adams her very first Oscar. Based on a novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder, Nightbitch follows an unnamed protagonist simply known as Mother. After abandoning her art career to care for her toddler, Mother begins to feel restricted, and as a result, starts to notice strange changes in her body. More specifically, Mother starts to believe that she and other mothers are turning into dogs.
Adams has enjoyed an outstanding career over the course of several decades, and arguably, her somewhat odd role in Nightbitch is not a huge surprise. Adams has proven her incredible versatility, from portraying a naive Disney princess in Enchanted to a conniving liar in American Hustle. Adams is not afraid to act in unique worlds or take on heavy characters.

Nightbitch's cast extends boasts some impressive talent opposite Amy Adams' commanding performance. Nightbitch is a black comedy riff on a classic creature feature, combining the themes of films like An American Werewolf in London with an exploration of motherhood. The film centers around Amy Adams' nameless Mother, who finds herself increasingly frustrated by her domestic life as a mother and wife above all else. Mother finds new freedom in the evenings however, especially as she steadily seems to begin transforming into a dog.
Although the overall film received mixed reviews from critics, Amy Adams' Nightbitch has become a streaming success on Hulu. While the film is anchored by Amy Adams' impressive central performance, the movie also features a strong supporting cast who bring out different shades of the lead character. Before "La La Land" was causing chaos at the Oscars, musicals were putting the ceremony in another mini-crisis back in 2008. That was the year that saw the box office hit "Enchanted" (a Disney kids film starring Amy Adams) nominated for three songs: "Happy Working Song," "So Close," and "That's How You Know." Those tunes lost to a ditty from the lesser-known Irish film "Once," titled "Falling Slowly."
The year before, another popular musical in the form of "Dreamgirls" (which is about a 1960s music trio and stars Beyoncé) was also nominated for three songs, all of which also lost to a movie with only one nomination. That time the winner was "I Need to Wake Up" from Davis Guggenheim and Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." This was the first time a documentary had ever won the award.

Both outcomes were somewhat controversial at the time, mainly because they were...

The terms "heartthrob" and "movie star" often go hand in hand, as Hollywood was built on stories of young, attractive people. In most live-action projects on both the big and small screens, there is usually an actor meant to be the main eye candy, or at the very least, be pleasant for the audience to look at. Although this approach to casting is without a doubt shallow, as actors should be hired for their skill of the craft, heartthrobs still exist in modern cinema. But, thankfully, many viewers are sensitive enough not to objectify actors.
Hollywood heartthrob culture reached a fever pitch in the 2000s, when most films premiered exclusively in theaters and people still read magazines detailing the lives of their favorite celebrities. While pop culture has largely moved away from declaring which actors receive heartthrob statuses, it is essential to reflect on a time when an actor could...

Amy Adams' new horror-comedy with a 59% Rotten Tomatoes score has become a streaming success. After beginning her career in Hollywood with small roles in films and television shows, Adams' breakthrough came with her performance in 2005's Junebug, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. However, it was her portrayal of the spirited Giselle in Disney's Enchanted that showcased her versatility and charm, cementing her status as a leading lady.
With her ability to embody a wide range of characters, Adams continued to garner critical acclaim with her nuanced performances in films like Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle, and Vice – all of which earned her additional Oscar nods. Adams continued to solidify her reputation with a mix of blockbuster and dramatic roles, including her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Dceu movies. Stephen Schwartz will see you now. The worthier wizard of “Wicked” is the one who wrote one of Broadway’s all-time top song scores and now, a little over two decades later, has overseen the transition of that music into a film that is almost certainly on the fast track for Best Picture contention. He is not the only veteran of the seminal Broadway team on board for the music, either, as the soundtrack finds him rejoined by the stage production’s original arranger and music supervisor, Stephen Oremus.
It’s a world-class Team of Stephens. Beyond having been the primary instigator behind turning “Wicked” into a stage musical (drawn from Gregory Maguire’s book), Schwartz is renowned for winning six Tonys and three Oscars as the composer and/or lyricist of the shows “Pippin” and “Godspell” and films like “Enchanted.” Oremus, meanwhile, is a Tony winner for his orchestrations...

Disney's Enchanted, a beloved classic with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, is an excellent movie to watch this holiday season. Enchanted has stellar songs, a star-studded cast, and a compelling narrative. The movie even has a sequel, Disenchanted, although it is not nearly as successful as its predecessor. Like the title, the characters are enchanting, from Prince Edward's (James Marsden) dimwitted and kind character, to Queen Narissa's (Susan Sarandon) cunning plans, to Giselle's (Amy Adams) optimistic and romantic personality. Although Enchanted's Giselle is not an official Disney Princess, she is still widely beloved and one of the best unofficial Disney Princesses.
Enchanted is also one of Disney's rare hybrid films — a movie that contains animation and live-action, although Enchanted is predominantly the latter. Regardless, the combination is a key aspect of the film's storytelling. The cast comprises many favorites, also including Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and Timothy Spall. Enchanted...

Most fans know Jodi Benson for her prolific voice work, headlined by her iconic role as Ariel from The Little Mermaid. In 2007, however, Disney managed to make her part of the live-action acting world with Enchanted, the beloved musical fantasy comedy homage to classic princess films from the House of Mouse. Her debut physical appearance on-screen was in an admittedly small role, but it placed her among a starry cast that included, among others, Amy Adams, James Marsden, and Patrick Dempsey at the height of his Grey's Anatomy fame. Meeting "McDreamy" also spawned a hilarious, heartwarming story which Benson was able to regale fans with at a Fan Expo San Francisco panel hosted by Collider's Taylor Gates.

Amy Adams' 2024 horror-comedy movie is about to have its streaming debut. Adams' first major role was in Steven Spielberg's 2002 movie Catch Me If You Can as Brenda Strong, a naive hospital nurse that Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) falls in love with, although the relationship is ultimately doomed. More recognition, including Adams' first Academy Award nomination, followed her performance in the 2005 comedy-drama Junebug. In the 2007 musical movie Enchanted, Adams cemented herself as a leading actor through her portrayal of Giselle.
Many of the projects considered Amy Adams' best movies would come in the years that followed, including the science-fiction drama Arrival directed by Denis Villeneuve. Amy Adams has had a prolific career full of numerous high-rated films. She is getting praise for her latest project, Nightbitch, which sees her play a disgruntled mother and housewife who is both plagued and invigorated by a slew of mysterious canine visions. ScreenRant's review of Nightbitch called Adams' performance finds "the perfect balance between joyful liberation and the underlying fear that motherhood has changed her forever." So far, Adams' performance has been critically recognized through her nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
Overall, though, Nightbitch is a very different performance than the kind of movie that Adams is used to. The 2024 film is a surrealist horror piece; much of Adams' career has been more conventional dramas. Some of her notable films, for example, include Julie & Julia, The Fighter, and Vice, all of which are...

There are some actors who have been utterly defined by a specific role in their career. They might have played a couple of other major parts, but somehow, fans continue to associate them with that specific part. Oftentimes, when exiting a major franchise or series, an actor might branch out in the hope that future performances will ensure they establish an entirely different reputation. One such actor who could have very much fallen into this category is Patrick Dempsey, known across the globe for Grey's Anatomy.
Patrick Dempsey is an actor best known for roles that got him the moniker of "McDreamy." As a result, it's hard to see him as anything else than a heartthrob in movies and television. That said, the actor has had a couple of shocking additions to his filmography that many of his Grey's Anatomy fans might not even be aware of. One specific production...

Amy Adams has revealed one of her regrets while filming Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated movie Catch Me If You Can. One of her scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio ended up proving to be quite difficult for the young actress to film.
Adams recently spoke about filming the Steven Spielberg flick while being interviewed by Vanity Fair. During the segment, she re-watched clips from her movies, and she spoke about her role in the film as Brenda Strong, the hospital nurse who falls in love with Frank (Leonardo DiCaprio). While filming a scene where Frank and Brenda share a touching moment together, Adams felt like she was holding up filming by laughing at an on-set snafu.

Amy Adams has been top-billed in some of our favorite movies for decades. After making a name for herself as a multi-faceted supportive character actor in films like The Fighter, Doubt, and even Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, she's maintained her depth of craft and variety of character work, leading massive hits such as Enchanted, Arrival, and Hillbilly Elegy — and in the process was nominated an astounding six times for the Academy Award. Now, she takes the lead once more in Marielle Heller's (A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood) wild new horror-comedy Nightbitch.

"Nightbitch" has a lot going for it, at least in theory. For one thing, the film hails from director Marielle Heller, the filmmaker behind wonderful movies like "The Diary of a Teenage Girl," "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" (my personal favorite of her films so far), and "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood." On top of that, it stars Amy Adams, one of the best performers working today — an actor able to portray both a bubbly Disney princess in "Enchanted" and a solemn, haunted linguist in "Arrival". Then you have the fact that the movie is called "Nightbitch." What a wonderful title! Throw in some genuine female body horror, and you've got yourself a stew, baby!
Sadly, all of these promising details crumble to dust once you sit down and watch the film, which is clumsy, awkward, and saddled with some of the worst voice over narration in recent memory.

Updated Nov. 30: Broadway musicals adapted to the screen are an erratic genre at the box office, despite Miramax’s multi-Oscar winning Chicago reviving the long-dormant Hollywood genre back in 2002 with $306.8M WW. Yet for every Les Miserables ($442.7M) hit from Universal, there were massive misfires like Dear Evan Hansen and Cats. Netflix's animated musical Spellbound features an exciting voice cast led by West Side Story's Rachel Zegler as Ellian, the princess of Lumbria. The kindhearted and beautiful Enchanted heroine Giselle would make the perfect Disney Princess, but she's mysteriously absent from the company's official line-up. Audiences first met Giselle (Amy Adams) in 2007 when Enchanted hit theaters. A blend of classic Disney 2D animation and live-action, Enchanted sees the animated Giselle exiled from her kingdom of Andalasia and transported to the loud, cynical live-action world of New York City. A total fish out of water, Giselle eventually finds her happily ever after while learning that the world is a lot more complex than she thought.
Enchanted was a smash hit with audiences and critics alike, earning over $340 million at the worldwide box office (via Box Office Mojo) and a Certified Fresh score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. The pundits praised Enchanted's smart sendup of fairy tale tropes, and were particularly impressed with Adams' performance as Giselle, particularly because it was her first time leading a film.

Andy Samberg has fondly recalled how Amy Adams refused to do a Saturday Night Live song with The Lonely Island because of its raunchy subject matter, and the movie it was supposed to be parodying. Saturday Night Live's best skits have often parodied pop culture media and real-world events, such as the recurring Celebrity Jeopardy! skit or the show's mature take on the character Gumby. Some of its more memorable sketches were done by the comedy trio The Lonely Island, consisting of Sandberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone.

Andy Samberg praised Amy Adams during a recent episode of the “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) for rejecting the comedy group’s pitch for her to star in a raunchy “Saturday Night Live” digital short. Adams was hosting “SNL” in 2008, a year after winning raves for her leading turn in Disney’s “Enchanted.” Samberg remembered the actor being loyal to her Disney fans, so much so that she had to protect them from The Lonely Island’s “very dirty” sketch pitch.
“I’m not gonna go into great detail about it, but it was a song that would have been a duet with me and Amy Adams, and it was very dirty,” Samberg said of the lost sketch. “It was basically like we were both really old and we were having a picnic, old people couple, and one of us gets stung by a scorpion.

In 2013, Studio Ghibli released The Tale of Princess Kaguya -- a gorgeously animated retelling of a classic Japanese myth. Next month, the film will return to U.S. theaters as part of Gkids' annual Ghibli Fest event.
As detailed on Gkids' website, The Tale of Princess Kaguya will be screened in select theaters on Monday, Nov. 25 and Wednesday, Nov. 27. The first November screening will feature the film's English dub, which stars Chlo Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) as Kaguya, James Marsden (Disney's Enchanted) as Prince Ishitsukuri and James Caan (The Godfather) as Kaguya's father, The Bamboo Cutter. The second screening will feature the original Japanese language track with English subtitles. The film is one of Ghibli's most unanimously acclaimed works. Over a decade after its release, it maintains a 100% "fresh" score on the popular film review site Rotten Tomatoes and was reportedly the first film of the decade to achieve this distinction.

Disney movies are synonymous with warmth, comfort, love, and heartfelt lessons to be learned by all. Geared towards a younger audience, these movies have come to be adored by older generations, too, especially those who grew up with some of these titles. However, there is a clear inclination toward certain titles that have become iconic in a way, like The Lion King or Toy Story. Fortunately, those who want to go beyond the usual movies have a lot to choose from.
There are plenty of Disney movies that have flown under the radar due to lower ratings or even because they just had a release date that didn't let the movie shine. Both live-action and animations, these titles had wonderful visual styles, compelling plot lines, and amazing characters that deserve a second watch and due appreciation. These underrated Disney movies are the hidden gems of the animation studio's oeuvre.

Miranda won’t be handling the writing duties for Moana 2. Instead, the songs come from Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, best known for the acclaimed unofficial Bridgerton: The Musical and getting a huge break with this film.
