And I thought it could not get any worse than Suburban Sasquatch...

What we have here is what is pretty much a homemade movie. Someone has a camera and the time and decides to make a film. They try to make a horror movie, good idea, you can do one of those on the cheap and perhaps make something that may not be good, but can be creepy and atmospheric. I have seen very good short films done on the cheap that are quite good and creepy. Unfortunately, this film does what so many other bad homemade films do, they try to make a horror comedy. Why? You can direct someone to scream way easier than delivering a comedic line, comedy requires timing and non actors do not have this timing! So you end up with a film that is made purposely bad that the makers probably gave each other high fives upon completion and somehow this horrible atrocity is released upon an unsuspecting public!

The story, a man mixing a fizzy drink goes to a bed and breakfast in a place that looks like it could not accommodate more than the woman who lives there. She welcomes him, a wrestler, a real estate agent and for some reason they are forced to hang out on the couch. Well, they all go for a walk and encounter a military man and soon murderous mushrooms are attacking due to the man mixing the fizzy drink spilling some of his magic formula.

The film might of worked better had they kept the mushrooms small, but instead they try a horrible larger costume and equally horrible computer effects. They try to be funny, but it does not work because the actors and actress all pretty much suck. The makers of this also would later make Suburban Sasquatch and it is actually an improvement over this. If the filmmaker were immortal I say he would be on track to make a decent film in 10,000 years or so...

So, not good, pretty much like all other horror/comedy home brews. Llamgeddon, Lycan Colony, Feeders 1 and 2 and Suburban Sasquatch all use the formula and all of them fail. Some worse than others, but none of them are enjoyable when watched alone or without Rifftrax and none of them should have been made. You want to make a movie, go for it, but you better have some real actors. If not, do a straight horror film not a horror/comedy!!!

I will never again eat mushrooms!

I will never again eat mushrooms after seeing this film! Another fun, entertaining, humorous horror film from Dave Wascavage tells the story of how a mad scientist (are there any other kind?) creates a concoction that turns ordinary mushrooms into intelligent killing machines at a bed and breakfast. A greedy real estate agent, professional wrestler, reality TV show star, and a hippie with a surprising alter ego all get in on the fun. There are also many in-jokes for filmmakers and film buffs alike. Again, another fun film from Dave Wascavage shows that you don't need a huge budget to create a film that is intriguing, fun, and entertaining.

    Hilariously Bad

If you are the sort of person who can get a kick out of a very bad movie, then I highly recommend this one. If you aren't, stay away. This is an astonishingly cheap-looking movie, and at times you may find yourself wondering if it isn't just a prank someone is pulling on you. The most positive comment I can make about it is that the people responsible seemed to realize that it was super-low-budget nonsense, so there is at least a sense of fun here.

But this is as amateurish as it gets. Their idea of giant killer mushrooms are simply guys covered with beige colored sheets with what looks like trash can covers on their heads. It's obviously not meant to be taken seriously (to say the least), but even with that disclaimer you'll find yourself shaking your head at the awesome cheesiness of it all. Or laughing out loud frequently, as I did.

It's so stupid-- and I love it!

I'd never heard of this movie before browsing through the RiffTrax catalog. I was in the mood for a cheesy, no-budget monster movie and this was PERFECT. I can see myself enjoying it even without the riffs.

Yes, Fungicide is a terrible movie, but it's the fun kind of terrible. You can tell the folks behind this movie were having an absolute blast and they even had a hilarious blooper reel during the end credits.

If you like silly, so-bad-it's-good movies (and are tired of watching The Room and Birdemic), I highly recommend you give this one a watch.

What the Fungi is going on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fungicide is about a mad scientist who goes on a forced vacation and finds himself at a bed and breakfast. On the way in he trips and drops a vile of a potion that he has been working on. The liquid spills through the cracks of the porch and dribbles onto the Mushrooms underneath. naturally the mushrooms start to mutate into Killer mushrooms.

Shot on a seriously low budget and with actors that are obviously armatures. This really is a very silly film. The mushrooms range from CGI to people dressed as mushrooms (full size) along with hand puppet mushrooms.

There is some gore on display, but some of the effects are weird, to say the least. In one attack sequence the victim looks like one of those masks you used to make at school, by blowing up a balloon and then sticking paper masc-he over it until it drys, bursting the balloon, leaving you with a mask the shape of a balloon. Yes it looks that fake!!!!

Lots of CGI is used for moving mushrooms, blood splatter's and gunshots. None of it that good, but there was an element of cheesy fun because of the CGI.

Overall I would say that the film does not take itself too seriously and there is some degree of entertainment value. Supposed to be a horror comedy, but I did not find this funny in any way. For me it was let down by the poor sound quality, which meant there was many times I could not hear the lines the actors were speaking.

Originally the mushroom props were to be shipped to the set from a special effects studio in Canada, but they were intercepted at the border by custom agents and were destroyed as they looked so convincingly real and importing mushrooms from Canada was prohibited at the time.
