    Better than Cinderella!!!!!!!!

This review is based on subtitle version of first season and dub version of second season. Its the first series that I saw with English subtitles and I never have thought that I would gonna like it this much. The story was excellent, characters were exceptional, screenplay and dialogues were outstanding. I really like the character of William Jones. It was just like the story of Cinderella where a rich man falls in love with a maid, but with a different point of view. One of the main reason I like it was the era and the manner of how British peoples converse with each other. The role of Emma was also a delighted one. I have never seen such character in my life. I will give this series a full marks.

    ✒ ☔ Out of the Shade: Maid in the Sun ☀ °7.4° °VG° 💯%🔍

Right on the nose. That's where the door hit him when Emma opened it. Then the 🐈 started dragging his stovepipe 🎩 away.

Based on a Manga, £mma is a 2005 Pierrot Studios release that is rated 7.61 on MAL. It is 2 seasons consisting of 24 24-minute English dubbed episodes with CC available. Eikoku Koi Monogatari Emma: Intermission (TV Special) is an offshoot production.

William was paying a visit to his former governess, Kelly. That's when he first laid eyes on Emma. She's just a maid, but she made him bow to her excellence. He is smitten with Emma rather quickly. He frequently waits at a shop nearby hoping for a "chance encounter" or a mere glimpse. He stresses out when his friend, a prince, visits from another 🇮🇳 country, because his friend likes Emma too. And Hakim is a PRINCE

These 2 leads get along splendidly, but when his parents find out, it's /trouble/. William's younger siblings completely reject the idea. Even all the maids in his house say they will NEVER respect a mistress who was a maid. They all think Eleanor Campbell is Will's perfect match. So does Eleanor. William's family is new money, though, and Eleanor's family is old money. Even that match would have its issues. There's no end to human nonsense and classifications. It's all merely collective lies we've tacitly agreed upon.

Pressures mount. It does look untenable. Marrying the maid could ruin their status in society... their prospects... their livelihood! William starts to have serious doubts as to whether forcing Emma into his world would make her happy or miserable. He backs away. Emma is sensitive, thoughtful, and keenly aware of her "proper" place in society. She is terrified of the potential fallout, should she marry William. There is no legal profession in this world that someone need be ashamed of. That idea only exists in the hearts of those who look down on others because of their class. Class is a human construct borne of pride. It has nothing to do with the intrinsic value of a person. Yet, they make the case so strongly that the marriage would ruin Will's family that I nearly gave up hope for them. When Will finally goes after Emma, she's already skipped town.

As S2 opens, Emma is working at a country estate and they are holding a huge house party. Many Londoners are in attendance. Soon, the people whom Emma now works for and William's circle will overlap. William doesn't know that, though. He's exhausted all efforts looking for Emma. It's been months and not a single lead. He has turned to Eleanor, who is in love with him, to 'ease his loneliness.' He gets used to Eleanor and bows to family pressures to get engaged. He has given up hope of finding Emma.

Emma's mistress is going to London, so Emma's going to. Over tea with one of the mistress's friends, she agrees to loan Emma out to attend an engagement party. This friend doesn't get out much, so she doesn't employ an attendant, but she will be expected to have one at the gala that she's been invited to. Guess whose engagement party it is? They dress Emma up. She looks beautiful. They won't let her wear her glasses! They're /all wrong/ for the outfit. "But I can't see anything!' Emma protests. Protest promptly parried: 'That's not important. You should just talk to and acknowledge groups, not individuals anyway.' Yikes!

When William walks over to make introductions, Emma can't make him out without her glasses. She never found out who was getting engaged, so she has no idea what's about to happen. He doesn't recognize her at first. He's utterly flummoxed when he realizes who this beautiful woman in front of him is. Emma finally realizes who /he/ is... and that he's engaged... She faints. Ultimately, William realizes once and for all, that he can't marry Eleanor. He will only marry Emma. The rest of the show is his efforts to bring Emma, his family, and the rest of the whole dang world around.

£ is steady and slow-paced. Perhaps some episodes, especially in S2, start to feel a tad like filler. It's not so bad, though. The color palette is muted and soft. It almost seems like there were stringent budget restraints, but the effect is aged and almost faded, like an old photograph. People are drawn simply with a focus on the eyes. Faces are low color while the eyes pop. Backgrounds are drawn like understated watercolors and stylized artistically. The filming is almost hypnotic. There's beautiful stretches with no words. The art says it all. Sound plays a big part in that, incorporating the strums of classical music, long pauses and self-spoken words. The light pit-pat of a cat walking on cobblestones is lovely and soothing. In fact, the whole show is soothing and promotes relaxation. The story remains front and center, even above the characters.

Hakim helps William out of a jam. "That just proves I can't do anything by myself." Will's thankful, but slightly downcast. "Don't be so conceited," Hakim isn't falling for it. "One person can only do so much." Ever notice how well-meaning people can inject themselves into situations to affect outcomes? It's a bad habit that kind and decent people can pick up: Overestimating their own importance and influence. William would be the first to help others but feels like a failure if he needs help. Independence and self-sufficiency are crucial to living a fulfilling life. Wanting to help is a beautiful thing. It's at the highest level of human existence. However, there can be a fine line between independence, helping, and going on an ego trip. £ quietly makes the case that we should all keep our egos tethered.

As a longtime devotee of all things penned and filmed in the UK, watching a Japanese language feature about Victorian £ngland was a particular delight. If I was not already predisposed to love such fare, I'm not sure how I would rate it. It's probably more for niche tastes than general ones. I think it is a charming escape and it can be watched with young children.

There's a positively lovely kiss. Dawn is breaking, just like Emma's resolve to stay away. The sun shines on them. Emma will never have to live in the shade again.
